Worth picking up these 4-year-old unworn Captains?

Found a pair of Captains locally that were apparently bought around 4 years ago and never worn. They still have the original paper stuffing and there doesn’t seem to be any sole wear or creasing.

They’re US 9.5 and I’m fairly confident about the sizing since I’ve tried a US 9 before and found it just slightly too small/uncomfortable.

Seller is asking A$170 (~US$110).

Buying Thursday Boots directly here in Australia is a bit of a hassle because returns aren’t free if the sizing or something else goes wrong. Amazon Australia does sell some Thursday models with free returns, but the selection is pretty limited.

So finding an unworn pair locally in my size is pretty tempting. Anything I should be concerned about from them sitting unused in a closet for around 4 years, particularly the leather or rubber outsole? Or would you guys grab them at this price?

Saw the new Mazda 6E today. What does everyone think?

Saw the all-new Mazda 6E for the first time today at my local dealership while dropping off my Mazda 6 for a service.

I’m honestly a bit torn. It definitely looks tempting in person, but at the same time I wasn’t blown away by it. Maybe that’s just because I’m not much of an EV person 😅

Curious what everyone else thinks, especially anyone who’s already had a proper look at one or taken one for a test drive. How does it actually feel to drive, and does it still feel like a Mazda?

What else could a patina fan ask for? Solid brass and thick full-grain leather 😁

Finally picked up this belt from T. Ferdinand, a small family-run artisan brand based in Healesville, Victoria, Australia.

It already feels seriously well made, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the leather and brass age together over the years. Definitely one of those pieces that should only get better with use.

1,800 km interstate move in a 2016 Mazda 6 2.5L Petrol

Hi everyone,

I’m in Australia and relocating from Melbourne, Victoria to Loganholme, Queensland—around 1,800 km / 1,120 miles.

My beloved and extremely reliable 2016 Mazda 6 GT 2.5L petrol has looked after me very well, and I honestly couldn’t leave it behind. So I’ll be taking it with me, along with some of my belongings, over a relaxed 4–5 day highway trip.

The car has just under 90,000 km / 56,000 miles and has been very dependable.

Before leaving, I’m planning to:
Replace both rear tyres with new Kumhos (fronts are failing new)
Have the brakes inspected; the pads were last measured at around 4.5 mm (3000km ago)
Confirm all fluids, battery and cooling system are healthy
Carry the factory spare wheel, jack, inflator and emergency kit

The car will be fairly full, but comfortably within its payload capacity.

Is there anything Mazda 6 owners would recommend checking or carrying before a trip like this? Any model-specific issues, preventative maintenance tips, or lessons from your own long-distance journeys would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully my Mazda and I will have many more kilometres together after this new chapter begins.

Recommend me some genuinely interesting Sinhala podcasts

Hey everyone!

I’m a Sri Lankan living overseas and I’m about to do a 2,000 km solo road trip across Australia over a few days.

I’d love some recommendations for really engaging Sinhala podcasts that I can download and listen to offline.

A couple of preferences:

❌ No politics
❌ No horror/ghost stories (I’ll be staying alone in motels in small towns… not looking to scare myself 😂)
✅ History, science, psychology, interesting conversations, travel, business, life stories, Sri Lankan culture, or anything that’s genuinely fascinating.

Would love to hear your favourites. Thanks in advance! 🙏🇱🇰

The Canadian Rabbit Hole Continues 🍁🇨🇦

After spending the past few months enjoying a Popov desk mat, I decided it was time to add one of their wallets to the rotation.

As a leather and patina enthusiast from Australia, I've always had a soft spot for small artisan makers. There's something special about products built from honest materials and designed to develop character through years of use rather than remain perfect forever.

The wallet and a mouse pad arrived this week after making the long journey from Canada to Melbourne.

Now comes the best part: putting them to work and watching the story unfold.

Greetings from Australia. 🇦🇺 🤝 🇨🇦

Hey all,

About to buy my first pair of RM Williams Comfort Craftsman in Mid Brown Pull-up.

Main use will be:

- casual (jeans/chinos)

- occasionally business casual

Just wanted some quick advice from owners:

  1. Colour & leather – is Mid Brown Pull-up a solid versatile choice, or would you go for a different option?

  2. Sizing concern – I’ve seen quite a few “brand new, wrong size” pairs on Marketplace.

How does that happen even after in-store fitting?

Any tips to avoid getting the sizing wrong?

Tried them in-store and they felt good, but just want to make sure before pulling the trigger.

Thanks in advance 🙏
