FYI
We have a 2 week old and our pediatrician said around the 4 month mark is safer to have unvaccinated family around the baby. However, that would be around the holidays and we are requiring anyone who wants to be around our baby to be up to date on the flu and Covid vaccines. We have family who are vaccine hesitant. Anyone else in this same boat? When did you allow unvaccinated family around your baby, if at all?
I have a 2-week-old who has gained back his birth weight. He often falls asleep 10 or less minutes into BF and is impossible to wake up. This leaves me having to feed him every hour so it’s been quite exhausting. There are a few feeds during the day where he’ll do a full feed but I’d like ask if his feeds to be a full feed. Any advice to keep baby awake for full feeds?
Things I’ve tried with little to some success:
Stripping him down to his diaper
Changing his diaper
Changing feeding positions
Tickling him
Stroking his body
Blowing air on him
Running a wet wipe over him
Flapping his chicken wing arm
Thanks for any advice!
We are FTP and our baby is 12 days old and I’m breastfeeding. My husband and I are both getting up at night to tend to baby, so both of us are getting very little sleep. My husband does all the diaper changes, burping, and keeping baby upright while I handle breastfeeding (and sometimes assist hubby as well).
We want to start working in shifts but we’re not sure how to go about it regarding the feeding aspect.
Should I pump so that when he’s on shift he can feed a bottle so that I can sleep? If so, what should my pumping schedule look like? Should he bring me baby instead to feed off the boob each time?
Baby has been cluster feeding as well so there’s a block of hours at night when he’s up to eat every hour. Not sure how that would work with pumping unless I have a stash built up. I’ve also read that it’s best to have baby breastfeed for the first several weeks to have that established before introducing bottles but we have already introduced bottled breast milk when needed and he was formula fed in the hospital while we waited for my milk to come in.
Any advice helps. Thank you!

FTM and 8 days pp. my newborn seems to feed well on my left breast but my right breast is giving me problems. My right nipple is so sore (I’m using a hydrogel pad and lanolin cream) and I don’t think his latch is good enough which is making it painful when he nurses from my right side. My OB recommended using a nipple shield so I picked one up from my local pharmacy today but it still hurts to BF on my right breast. It feels like he’s chomping down on my nipple or something whenever he latches.
I typically do the cross cradle hold on a my Brest friend pillow but have also tried the football hold previously before getting the nipple shield. Maybe I should try the football hold again with the nipple shield to see if it’s any better?
I really hope that it gets better for us as time goes on and that my nipple is able to heal. I feel so discouraged about this but I know that we’re both still new to this and learning. I have a lactation consultation next week so I hope it helps. This has been the hardest part of my journey so far and I wish it were easier.
Baby was born at 39+1 via c-section and we didn’t successfully breastfeed until 3-4 days after he was born as my milk hadn’t come in yet.
Thanks in advance for any advice and for reading.
If anyone is looking for a job, I saw a help wanted sign at Sam a.m. Inquire within.
I will be admitted to the hospital at 4pm next Wednesday (39 weeks) for induction if nothing happens before then. What was your last meal before you were admitted?
Rant!!! 38+2 today and getting induced next Wednesday if nothing happens before then. For the last ~4 weeks, all my fingers have been hurting or numb (trigger finger and I assume carpal tunnel). I’ve been wearing wrist braces almost 24/7 and so looking forward to having normal hands again!
FTM and plan is to BF but also bottle feed; we’ll see how it goes.
Been looking at the my brest friend nursing pillow but unsure if it’s a necessity. Would love to hear from other moms and what has worked for you.
Thanks in advance!
FTM at 34+1 and having a hard time deciding whether to get a bottle washer/sterilizer/dryer or maybe just a sterilizer/dryer before or after baby is born. I would like to BF and will have a pump as well but would also like to have hubby feed baby sometimes, but of course, I’m not gonna know if I could BF or if I’ll have to combo feed or just formula feed.
We have a dishwasher but there is no specific sterilize option. I would also prefer to not spend copious amounts of time manually washing/sterilizing bottles and pump parts if I can help it.
I’m so indecisive with this and would love any advice on if this was a good purchase for you or not. Thank you!
