Help me finding the mistakes

I wanted a representation of what our milky way will look like if we substitute sagittarius A with Ton 618. So Gemini pro has created this image. As we know the main error in images showing Sagittarius A within the full Milky Way is a massive exaggeration of scale. If you shrank our entire galaxy down to the size of Earth, the central black hole would be much smaller than a single grain of sand. To make the black hole visible for educational purposes, artists have to artificially inflate its size by millions of times. In a truly, mathematically accurate picture of the entire Milky Way, the black hole would be completely invisible to the naked eye, hidden deep inside a blindingly bright core of billions of ancient stars. Now if we take those internet images of the milky way galaxy as base how accurate is this image as a representation?

Which college should I choose?

জানি ফোন ঘেঁটে ঘেঁটে তোদের attention span এর বারোটা বেজে গেছে তাও চুপ চাপ গোটা লেখা টা পর ধৈর্য ধরে 👇

I am actually interested in pursuing physics research as a career, engineering is my back up. I would choose Electronics, electrical or mechanical engineering over cse . But the problem is I am in border line situation in every exam. IISER 89xx rank , wbjee 49xx rank JU bsc physics 12x rank. As IISER counselling results are yet to be announced I am planning to join engineering over joining a random bsc college . I thought I would get jgec mechanical but I didn't get it in round 1 and don't think I will get it in round 2. Also I can't join pvt colleges. Can you suggest some government colleges.

My criteria are :

  1. Not tensed about placement

  2. Want low fees

  3. Should have good teachers who are eager to take classes

  4. Fully determined to go for higher studies so need that environment

  5. Basic lab facility and infrastructure

I heard about cgec and kalyani university, if I don't get jgec how would these colleges be according to my preferences?

If you know some other better govt colleges (not for cse but for ece ee and me) then inform me.

I built this college predictor!

After IISc and IIT Madras 1st round cut off is released I decided to analyse the data to predict 2026 cut off. Only 7 iisers are included in this predictor. Everything is based on the last few years of data and trends. It is suggested to use the scenario adjustment in between 0.85x to 1.0x,

Any valuable feedback and corrections will be appreciated. (Built with claude AI)

Are ju science departments as good as engineering departments for ug students?

I'm going to join the B.Sc. Physics program this year. What should I expect, and what should I be prepared for?

This guy is telling 2026 papaer was the toughest of IAT history!!

He is from IISER Pune , and he is saying 2026 was the toughest paper of all time ...Do you guys think the same ? For me it was moderate, and I have solved way more tougher questions from pyqs. Share your opinion.

Why I Think This Year's IAT Cutoff May Drop (My Analysis)

I have a few points that make me believe the cutoff should drop this year.

  1. Tougher paper than last year:

Although this year's paper was moderate, it was still a bit tougher than last year's.

  1. New institutes joined:

IIT Guwahati, IIEST Shibpur, and IACS Kolkata have joined the IAT counselling process this year, giving students more options.

  1. Increased seats:

Some IISERs have increased their seat intake, which should also contribute to a lower cutoff.

  1. Re-NEET factor:

If Re-NEET happens, it will give another chance to NEET aspirants who kept IAT as a backup. As a result, many may withdraw their IISER seats in the later rounds, causing the cutoff to drop.

  1. WBJEE factor:

A good number of WBJEE aspirants from West Bengal appeared for IAT as a backup. Since WBJEE was relatively tough this year, many may later secure engineering colleges through WBJEE counselling and withdraw their IISER seats, especially in the later rounds.

  1. NEST factor:

There has also been a significant increase in NEST applications. Many research-oriented students prefer NISER/CEBS over IISERs because of the stipend, lower fees, and strong research environment(Niser is better than iisers in terms of core research). Therefore, some of the competition in IAT is likely to be distributed to NEST.

  1. Increased awareness about research careers:

Educational platforms like SciAstra are continuously creating content about research careers, making students more aware that research cannot simply be treated as a backup option. Nowadays, many JEE/NEET aspirants ask about placements at IISERs because they want to join an institute of national importance. Once they realize that BS-MS graduates generally have fewer direct placement opportunities, some may choose not to join. (There's nothing wrong with being concerned about financial stability, but a placement-centric mindset doesn't always align well with research institutions.)

The only major factor that could increase the cutoff is the rise in applications. Last year, there were approximately 1.25 lakh appeared applicants, while this year the number is around 1.45 lakh—an increase of roughly 20,000 applicants. However, this doesn't necessarily mean the cutoff will increase. What matters is how many serious candidates have increased. As IAT becomes more mainstream, there's a possibility that many of these additional applicants simply filled out the form to keep another option open. Good students usually have proper guidance and are already aware of the important exams in their respective fields. Moreover, every year, many students appear for multiple exams (for example, NEET aspirants also attempt JEE). So, I don't think the additional 20,000 applicants will have a major impact on the cutoff.

So, I believe this year's cutoff may decrease by around 5–10 marks, mainly in the later rounds. Again, these are just my speculations. I could be completely wrong, or this analysis could turn out to be accurate. Ultimately, we'll have to wait for the counselling results. Until then, enjoy this time.

Seniors who joined late , did you face any problem ?

Seniors who joined an IISER through the later counselling rounds (Round 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.). How was your experience after joining? Did you face any academic, social, or administrative difficulties because you arrived later than most students?

I'm particularly curious about whether you felt any FOMO from missing orientation programs, introductory sessions, club activities, ice-breaking events, or the initial bonding period with classmates. Was it difficult to make friends or integrate into the batch after joining late, or did things eventually work out smoothly?

Looking back, do you think joining a better-preferred IISER in a later round was worth the delay, or would you have preferred joining earlier elsewhere?

Can I join IISER Berhampur from day 1 ?

If iiser is possible in this mark range then Is there any chance of getting berhampur in earlier rounds? ...I don't want to join too late (gen-male)

Would a 2nd drop (partial) for IAT be a mistake in my situation?

Hi everyone,

I passed Class 12 in 2025 from West Bengal. My long-term goal has always been to study Physics and eventually go into research.

When I finished school, I wasn't very aware of IISERs. I knew about Jadavpur University and Presidency University, and those were my original targets. Later I learned about IISc and IISERs, became fascinated by the opportunities there, and decided to take a full drop year to prepare for JEE Advanced.( I was a little misinformed that to get into IISc I have to clear jee adv)

I prepared entirely through self-study without coaching and even without local tuition. Looking back, I was probably overconfident. The year did not go as planned, and I couldn't even clear the JEE Advanced cutoff. And I feel I can't clear IAT or NEST too this year.

Some academic details:

Class 12: 93% in physics 92% overall

JEE Main: 85 percentile overall, ~95 percentile in Physics(70% syllabus done)

WBJEE: expecting a decent rank and around 36+/50 in Physics, 60+ in total

CUET: expecting around 190+/250 in Physics, 650+ in total

JEE Advanced mock tests: usually 80–90 total, with 60–70+ coming from Physics

IAT mock tests: usually 70–90 total, with 45–60 coming from Physics

One thing this year made very clear is that Physics is genuinely my strongest subject. My mathematical concepts are reasonably good, but I struggle to convert that into scores under exam conditions. Chemistry has consistently been my weakest subject.

My likely options this year are:

BSc Physics at Presidency University

BSc Physics at Jadavpur University

Some engineering colleges through WBJEE/JEE Main

Maybe something through CUET depending on the results

At this point I don't think I can take another full drop. The last year was mentally exhausting. However, I can still attempt IAT once more in 2027 while studying in college.(D.O.B. : May 2007 so I think age will not be a big factor even after taking 2nd drop)

So my question is:

If I get Presidency University Physics or Jadavpur University Physics this year, should I simply join, focus completely on college, and move on from entrance exams? Or would it be reasonable to take a partial drop and give IAT one final attempt in 2027?

Jadavpur University or Presidency University for B.Sc Physics?

I have a good chance of getting both of these institutions....which one should I prefer ?(I want to pursue research and higher studies)
