Too depressed and deep into grief to go through with TAVR

Cardiologist couldn’t care less about what I’m going through. I know what will happen if I don’t, but that’s my choice. I just feel like my rights and my feelings are being dismissed.

Maybe I can face it in time, but not right now. I just feel so alone and lost.

I forgot to add: I lost my husband of 30 years in April. It was a devastating experience.

Can you share your experience with the Catheterization?

I’ve been reading about the risks of the test, and some that are posting their negative experiences in other forums. I’m really scared to have it done. I’m 73 with 40 years of tachycardia and arrhythmias, along with hypertension (on meds), mitral valve prolapse, and overweight. I’m very worried I’ll back out because there’s always a chance something could go wrong.

I have severe aortic stenosis by the way.

Would like to hear how it went for you.

Driving in from Syracuse tomorrow, need advice.

So my son (44) and I (73) are driving down from Syracuse tomorrow morning to look around and decide if we want to relocate here. I’m unable to walk too far, but can manage a few blocks. My son is disabled, but can also manage a few.

I’m not sure where I should park, for us to get a general idea of the downtown. It would be nice to hit a coffee shop and maybe a small cafe to eat.

Also, are there places to park near the Ithaca commons, so my son can look around and I can stay in the car?

What areas would you suggest we stay away from (crime, drugs, etc)?

My son would be looking for either a 1 bedroom apartment or possibly an efficiency.
Are there any downtown or nearby downtown, that are safe? He doesn’t need any special accommodations, but couldn’t walk up more than 1 flight of stairs.

And last, what hotels would you suggest if we can’t walk too far from the car to the hotel.

I know that a LOT of questions, so kudos if you read everything! 😆

Is Ithaca a good spot for disabled son who is working on music career?

I’m actually considering relocating to the Ithaca area, and my disabled son would like to stay close to me. He’s 44 and is starting to pursue a music career, writing songs, music, etc.

It looks like there are some artsy music areas that would be good for him. He doesn’t drive, so being able to walk or use public transportation would be very important.

Can locals fill me in on what I might need to know, to decide if this is a good move for him?

I’ll probably be renting a house away from the downtown area, as I drive and like a more quiet neighborhood.

He wants to be as independent as he can, so prefers not to live with me.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

Receiver paying fee?

When I send my sister money, they’re taking a percentage out of what she receives, should that happen? I thought I would pay the fee.

TIA

Sister having palpitations and pain 5 years later

So, my sister had TAVR 5 years ago and has been fine. For the last month, she’s been having palpitations and what she says feels like gas.

She’s scheduled for an EKG in a few days, and they’ll be scheduling an echo soon after hopefully.

I just wanted to ask, what are some things that can cause that, what can go wrong 5 years after TAVR?

She is 80 years old. I’m very worried about her.

They’re making me prove everything all over again for DIC!

I can’t believe I have to go through this again, right after my husband has passed away.

He was 100% service connected with Parkinson’s. The connections were exposure to lead, contaminated water, foam, and asbestos.

He was also exposed to agent orange indirectly.

I had a VSO help me file for DIC. She sent everything in for me. 5 days later I checked my VA website and they were asking for proof of his exposure to asbestos and wanting me to “connect” his cause of death to Parkinson’s.

His death certificate states Parkinson’s as cause of death. It also lists as secondary cause, aspiration pneumonia caused by Parkinson’s.

I don’t understand why I have to do this all over again. I’m the one who spent 1 1/2 years gathering evidence for his claim. I’m angry and exhausted. I’m still grieving and in a daze.

Does this seem right to you? Should I contact anyone else to help me with this? They’re giving me until June 15th to show proof, or they’ll make their decision.

The VSO I used told me not to worry, and I don’t understand why she’s saying that, when they very clearly stated they needed me to respond within this time frame.

So scared! Angina with tachycardia, waiting for echo

So I was told I had medium to severe stenosis last year. About 6 months ago I started having lots of tachycardia, palpitations, and fatigue.

I’m scheduled to have another echocardiogram on June 11th, but I’m scared because now I’m having pain (mild ache) with the tachycardia.

I just saw my new cardiologist a few days ago and she set up the echo. She said she’s checking for critical status.

I’m 74 years old and my husband just passed away 6 weeks ago. I’ve been in shock about that and have been in deep grief. I cry every day. Now I face this just when I don’t have the will to face it.

Has anyone else had pain (angina) before their TAVR? I have never felt like passing out, it’s when I stand up or sit down or make a sudden move, that the painful tachycardia starts.

It only lasts a minute or two at most.

I’m just worried that she’s waiting too long for the echocardiogram.

Future budgeting advice for 74 year old widow

Hi all!

I’m concerned about the years ahead and want to make sure I have enough to sustain me if I live another 10 years or so.

I have $100,000 in savings (plan on transferring to HYSA soon). I’ll be getting a total of $4,000 a month from SS, pensions, etc.

Right now I pay $2,200 in rent with all utilities included. Internet is also included. Other misc. bills total around $600. Food is $200-300.

I have Medicare and VA health insurance. I own my car.

I need to move though, because my arthritis is way too painful to keep going up and down stairs (live on second floor). I also don’t need a 2 bedroom anymore.

Any suggestions or advice is welcomed.

I do help my 2 sons financially here and there, as one is totally disabled, and the other is unemployed and is having a really hard time finding a job.

I’ve been using some of my savings to help them. I had $120,000 to start.

Thoughts?

So, I have an automatic 2010 Fit Sport, and it’s been very neglected due to my health issues. I considered buying a new vehicle, but decided I want to keep mine.

I have the finances to do what it takes to bring it back to as new as possible, I just don’t know where to start.

I’m a 74 year old woman and still have health issues, so the work would be outsourced of course. Where do I start?

The body outside is pretty ok except for a few scratches and one tiny dent. The inside needs help. lol

Back of one seat ripped a bit, floors have no mats and look rugged, there are 2 small plastic items missing (I don’t know what they are).

Seats definitely need shampooing, scrubbing!
Everything inside needs major cleaning.

Mechanical it’s pretty good. Needs new tires, oil change. It’s starting to rust underneath just a tiny bit, local shop said wasn’t bad.

Soooo, where to begin, where to have it worked on, etc?

Oh yeah, the headlight coverings are really cloudy. TIA

Edited to add: 110,000 miles
