Mustang mods. Which style do you prefer?
I'm planning to get a Squier Sonic Mustang, I'll probably swap the neck, tuners, pickups, pickguard, and knobs. I wouldn't replace the bridge or electronics unless they give me problems. What do you think of these mods, and which style is your favorite?
If it helps, the main reason I want to do this is that I've been wanting a short scale offset with P90s for a while. I figured I could throw a set of humbucker sized P90s into a budget Mustang. Also, all of my current guitars have pretty traditional colors and finishes, so I'm going for something a little more "edgy" this time.
What are your thoughts on the SY1 and synth pedals in general?
When I started using pedals more than two decades ago, I quickly fell in love with fuzz, distortion, and delay. Later, I discovered that modulation and reverb could be cool as well. At the time though, I didn’t like synth pedals or pitch shifters. They sounded fake and gimmicky and I couldn’t see myself using them. The truth is, I didn’t really understand them.
More recently, I’ve found myself on a sonic exploration to redefine my music, so I started picking up “weirder” pedals and noise machines. Eventually, I decided to give the SY1 a try. At first, it was exactly what I expected: I didn’t like the sounds I was getting out of it. But after spending more time experimenting, here are a few things that have worked for me:
- Running an overdrive or boost in front of the SY1 helps me get better sound.
- Using the FX loop is key to making the pedal more interesting.
- Some kind of pitch shifter after the SY1 can add complexity.
- I also like using a modulated reverb after the pedal to add ambience and movement.
- Lastly, with this pedal, it’s a good idea to keep notes since it doesn’t store presets.
What are your favorite tricks when using synth pedals?

Three fuzzes, three delays, stereo out mid-chain for a wet/dry effect.
My Fender / Squier collection
Not a large collection, but it’s honest work. I got the fat Strat on the right 21 years ago and it’s been my main guitar ever since. I picked up the PBass back in 2014, the Jazzmaster and Jaguar are much more recent acquisitions.
Which Fender model is your favorite?
Jaguar modern player build yay or nay? Do you thinks it's worth it?
For some time now, I've wanted a P90 guitar and to build a Jaguar from parts. Recently, I came across the modern player Jaguar, which is like if a Jag and a LP had a child, with a Strat style jack thrown in for some reason. I've never played an actual modern player, but I've tried a few Jaguars and loved them all.
This would be my first guitar build, so I like that it doesn't have too many components, and the electronics seem simpler than the classic Jaguar wiring. I don't expect to buy any 'genuine' or expensive parts (already found a body, and the rest is mostly standard Fender/Gibson style stuff), so my goal would be to end up with a good-quality, great-sounding instrument without breaking the bank.
So, what do you think? Is this worth building, or should I go with a different Jaguar/offset model?
