Can't reformat or delete volumes off of two USB sticks.
I tried BalenaEtchering TinyCoreLinux Plus on one of my USB sticks. It failed, and when I tried to delete the volumes in Disk management or to format the drive I couldn't. So I took a second USB stick. I BalenaEtchered AntiX Linux on it. It worked. For some reason it didn't boot on my laptop so I tried BalenaEtchering TCL+ on it. Same story. Now I have two USB sticks and both have not working ISOs and both are refusing to delete the ISOs / reformat themselves. Just starting BalenaEtcher without doing anything results in Windows telling me to reformat the drive, which then tells me that it couldn't finish formating. Please help. I just want my old laptop running, I don't wanna deal with this shit.
AMD software driver timeout.
Every month or so I my screen will blackscreen and my game will crash and after my screen goes on again the AMD bug report tool will tell me "AMD software detected that a driver timeout has occurred on your system. An issue report has been created that can be sent to AMD to help us improve our software. Would you like to report this issue?" Do I need to update my drivers? Most of the time this happens when I play War Thunder.
Windows 11 Home, R7 5800X, RX 7600XT.
Can't complete mission.
I'm supposed to assassinate some people in this mission. I can't even kill him, cause he's inside a building and it's not possible to get inside the building. And no, he's not on the roof.
One month with using LineageOS daily.
I've been dailying my S20+ with LineageOS 23.2 for the past month. Here's what I think of it.
It's still as smooth since my five day review, but now that I've gotten used to it, my S22 Ultra feels laggy. I've basically seen no lag spikes or hick-ups at all. I'm really impressed.
The battery is still REALLY good. Much better than my S22 Ultra even.
Performance is... well, it's not LineageOS's fault that the Exynos 990 is shit....
Connectivity is much better than on my S22 Ultra.
////// There is one MAJOR thing that I would say NEEDS to be fixed. Whenever someone called me, oftentimes they could not hear me. I had to call them back for them to hear me again.
Would I recommend LineageOS to someone? Well, it depends. If they don't have the money for a new phone but really want a smoother experience (and if the call thing gets fixed), then sure.
Can't boot my Ubuntu.
I have Windows 11 installed on my primary drive, and tried to install Ubuntu on a secondary drive. However, when I go into the BIOS I can't seem to find any boot option that boots me into Ubuntu. I can confirm Ubuntu was installed correctly as when I try to install it again via USB stick it asks me whether I want to install Ubuntu alongside Ubuntu and Windows. I literally put every boot option before my primary drive and it still boots into Windows, even shit like CD and Ethernet. I can also confirm I installed the secondary drive correctly, as it worked as intended (before I figured to install Ubuntu on it). When I try to view the secondary drive using Windows's Explorer, the drive does open but says it's empty. Please help.
Action button(s)
Is there a way to use the vol up + vol down shortcut for anything else than accessibility? I wanna toggle ring and vibration, but all I can do is dim my screen.
I kinda got into installing different Linux distros, so I thought, why not try it on my phone? So I grabbed my old phone (Samsung Galaxy S20+ (exynos, ew)), followed every instruction on the website as said, and everything turned out perfectly. Went from OneUI 5.1/Android 13 to LineageOS 23.2/Android 16.
Battery life. Even though the battery health is at 80% (thx devs for that iphone feature), it lasts REALLY long. The battery life got maybe like 1.5 to 2 times better.
Performance. This is my first bloat free Samsung phone. It's crazy how actually laggy and stuttery OneUI is. It's magnitudes smoother than even my S22 Ultra (OneUI 8). The phone is 6 years old and performs as if brand new. I didn't notice much of a step up in performance in games, but battery drain went down by a lot. I have no idea how y'all squeezed out so much performance out of this piece of shit called Exynos 990.
Screen. I have absolutely no idea how, but my screen brightness is now on par, if not brighter than my S22 Ultras?????? And even though the color settings were a bit confusing at first, I settled with Cinema cause the colors are most vibrant that way.
Connectivity. My wifi speeds doubled. My 4G speeds doubled. Mods, if y'all see this, please go and praise your contributers and coders. They deserve a rest.
Extra. I did not expect to see so many features out of the box that would've been locked behind Good Lock on Samsung phones.
Pet peeves. Why does toggling on wifi and mobile data need a confirmation every time? I do not need to be asked every time if i wanna truly wanna switch on mobile data.
Downsides. It's all the obvious stuff, like Google Pay doesn't work without a workaround and the camera is worse as it's not that optimized for the phone. But hey, I don't use the camera on this phone that much anyways. It's fine. (still though pls make it so the zoom slider is always visible)
Conclusion:
I do not regret switching to the LineageOS side. At all. I have never ever seen an OS this smooth. Not even on recent Galaxy S Ultras. My 6 year old Samsung phone feels brand new again.
I updated my S20+ from OneUI 5.1 to LineageOS 23.2. When I try to receive something via Quick share, the other phone just doesn't detect this phone. Before the update everything was fine. It says "Ready to receive", but is not visible to any other device. I did install MindTheGapps. I did set it to "Everyone for 10 minutes".
