Satellite imagery of San Salvador

For a city with no official Google street view, and no 3D buildings, I would have never had thought the satellite imagery would be so clear.

Genoa street view, with 3D buildings turned on and off

Out of all European cities I’ve seen on street view, Genoa must have the narrowest streets

Xi’an, China

Xi’an, China, the village that appears in the foreground was going to be demolished around 2018-2020, now it’s 2026, still hasn’t been demolished. But, back in the 2000s this entire area was just farmland, but the village was still there, go back to 1980s, the village is still there.

Human Development Index of China, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan, compared to the world average

The average HDI of the world is 0.756, comparable to Paraguay. Only China, Mexico and Brazil have higher HDI than the world average. While South Africa, India, Nigeria and Pakistan have lower HDIs than the world average.

Source: Global data lab

The HDI is made up of four indicators, Life expectancy, Gross National Income per capita PPP, expected years of schooling, and median years of schooling for people over 25 years old. It is the most widely used index to determine development in a country, national figures are published by the United Nation.

How many cities I can name in each country (micro states included)

https://preview.redd.it/ko0kyr4yjo1h1.jpg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=004f1ca310ddd3aeecb094439249672d6d51552b

Some things to clarify:

  1. I know the capital of every SOVEREIGN nation in the world
  2. I am from China, you can tell because of China’s colour
  3. Some things may be a bit weird Eg. more cities in Bulgaria than Greece, but that’s just how it is
  4. I determine if a disputed area belongs to a country by how the software draws the borders, eg. Crimea in this map belongs to Ukraine so Sevastopol counts as Ukrainian, Svalbard and Jan Mayen is not a separate territory?
  5. villages and settlements that aren’t designated as cities are counted, cities that are part of a larger urban area are counted (eg. Ecatepec de Morelos.)

The border cities of Dandong in China and Sinuiju in North Korea.

Dandong: tall buildings, typical of a stereotypical Chinese city

Sinuiju: slums, found in pretty much every North Korean city.
