I heard this was divisive but I don't care... End of Oak Street was so much fun and delivered on everything promised.
I just want to share in case anyone is scared to go see this... it's a blast. It's funny. It's sweet. It's bloody. It delivers if you see the trailer or know the plot...
Set in 1982... gives it a sweet speilbergian vibe... then they end up in a place with dinosaurs and things that slowly start to take over the place. It's really fun. Some great dark humor. Bloody. Exciting chases. And Hathaway and McGregor are great.
My audience applauded and laughed and it was just a great time for me and my friends... except one friend that for some reason ranted for 20 minutes about how he hated it, he bullied the entire conversation and we all just let him rant until he ran out of energy. Like Reddit lol.
BRAND NEW Futurama premieres late tonight.tomorrow... Our Flag Means Medical Coverage... s14 Ep 3. We got Space Pirates.
reddit.comScruffy liked this one. S14 ep 1 Beef: Fun stuff, quotes and jokes I had to look up.
- Killing kids right at the top... deep respect.
- Bender: We failed faster than usual.
- Brackishwater Taffy: lol. Brackish water is water with a salinity level between fresh water and seawater. It forms wherever fresh and salt water mix either intentionally or when the sea meets river water.
- I love when the Professor grabs the gravity pump that's lighter than air then he floats up and down.
- Amy: Those poor fish. Im gonna bring one home so it can die more quickly.
- Hotdog museum not affiliated with corndog aquarium.
- Cyber wiener
- Fry Hot dog eating was the one thing I was good at. I would have gone all the way. Bender: To what?
- The starter pistol being a mustard gun.
- Hermes "Brocky's dead" Amy gasps then Amy: Oh wait that was a 1000 years ago.
- Love seeing Haddie working the hot dog stand.
- Gaucho Marx cattle ranch. A gaucho is a South American cattle herder/cowboy. Groucho Marx was a comedian in the early half of the 20th century and died in 1977.
- Zoidberg: Help friends I'm being preserved. Leela: Quiet Zoidberg.
- Hermes: And... we're back.
- When the professor releases the cows he's wearing mosquito netting just in case he makes mosquitoes again.
- Prof: Maybe they like having a metal bolt fired through their skull at the speed of sound.
- The EZ Burn oven... referring to the EZ Bake oven.
- Planet Express>Plantless Express
- The armor hotdog jingle riff reminded me of Demolition Man.
- Farn Dog the slippery dog that goes down fast.
- Tonya is back that little you know what... and giving the finger to the crowd.
- Live sea urchin specialist, Takeru Kobayashi the 43rd!
- Announcer: You gotta put em down and you keep em down no reversals. So good.
- Prof on Brocky's resurrection: Not only was it not impossible, it was inevitable. I probably should have mentioned it earlier.
- Fry on how hotdog Brocky J remembers him by reading his autobiography on the ride over from the lab to the contest: Oh I guess that makes sense... NO it actually doesn't. When did you learn to read? (it's the audio book)
- Hotdog Brocky: I enjoyed reading about your mom in my autobiography.
- Fey eating Brocky.
- Announcer: Here's your beef belt it goes on like a regular belt. I gotta run.
Collider event Q&A: 'Futurama's New Specials Will Be "Closer to Movie Length"
https://collider.com/futurama-season-14-matt-groening-david-cohen-billy-west/
It just came out that you guys are doing three extended-length specials with the first holiday special planned for 2027. What can you tease about these episodes?
LAMARCHE: We've seen it, and you haven't! We've seen it, and you haven’t!
COHEN: It's very exciting, first of all, because I was just saying how great the show looks on a movie screen. So in this case, we get to write them a little bit more like movies because they're closer to movie length. So, I think they're going to be very good. What can I say without tipping too much…?
HERMAN: There's this lady, she's got one eye. One socket — not missing an eye. You know what I'm saying?
COHEN: We're going to deal with a real-life emotional thing, which is the loss of Coolio, who played Kwanzaabot, so we're going to try to give him a proper sendoff for the character. We have a big story about Fry’s childhood fantasies about Santa Claus, and there is a tragic romance involving Bender and a snowman. I think that I have taunted everybody enough with that teaser.
Bender and ESPN's SporsCenter team up for some fun and publicity
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDlAuki4Zew&t=88s
I know some (me) are always scared of cancellation and rightfully so... but I find it encouraging they made this promo using SportsCenter. This takes some effort. So Disney/Hulu isn't just letting the show run without any push.
Realized I missed one ep from s12... One is Silicon and the Other Gold (second Hulu season). Saw it last night and it is so funny.
I remember watching s12 out of order and I guess I missed it... saw it last night and I loved it.
The opening is great the whole party planet commercial and all the guys get their tickets but Leela doesn't because she's gonna sadly spend time with her AI chatbot.
I had a feeling this was gonna be one of those eps where the b story introduces the show but the A story starts after that and I was right. At first the B story of the guys going to the party planet and it all falls apart I thought was going to be the better one but then the A story (lady book group turned wine group) took off and turned out to be awesome.
I loved how Vyolet and Dr. Cahill were a big part of it. They were great and feels like it's the most we've seen Vyolet ever. Love her mutant power.
Also the whole thing reconnecting to the chatbot and the funeral at the end was hilarious.
Hedonismbot was great in it too. And Labarbara reacting to him.
- Hedonismbot: I like them plump and juicy!
- Labarbara: I know you're not talking about grapes, but me not sure what you are talking about.
- Hedonismbot: That's probably for the best.
Bender: With blackjack and hookers makes a return.
Professor: I was expecting 'Of Mice and Men' to be about a man-mouse hybrid. You know? The sort of thing science has dreamt of since the dawn of time?
Introducing Brocky J., a hot dog eating champion in the S14 premiere episode titled "Beef"
Really good story in animation mag about how the process of how Brocky J. gets created. Interview with Edmund Fong director and series supervising director Peter Avanzino who's been there from the beginning.
Futurama is one amazing show. I like it all no matter where it came from: Fox (72 episodes), DVD (16), Comedy Central (52), Hulu (40 so far). And honestly, the breaks between some seasons have been a plus.
When the Comedy Central episodes came around, some fans complained, others loved it. But I've noticed that as the years went by, people who discovered Futurama new didn't know the difference. They weren't as "tooned in" (pun intended) with the inner chaos of cancel-renew-cancel-renew. They just watch it as one show, not broken into eras, because they're younger and just finding it new.
Same thing will happen with the Hulu run.
I actually think the series is stronger because of the stops and starts. It gives everyone time to recharge, and they mix in new writers with the classics.
When Fox cancelled it the first time, it felt jinxed. But now it feels like Futurama fans are the luckiest fans out there.
Local news interviews from comic-con sheds a tiny bit of light on the new Xtra long specials coming next year...
I'm always excited with more Futuramas. But when these specials were announced I was like YAY and then huh? lol
So I saw this story on local KABC with the cast at the Comic-con Futurama food and fun play land thing they had there.
Producer Lee Supercinski called it 3 extended length specials... he had to think about how to phrase it which i found funny. I feel like they all discussed how to refer to these because everyone seems to struggle explaining them. He said it will likely come out in 16 months around holiday time next year.
David X Cohen at comic-con on stage said "instead of a season of short episodes it is a season of extra long specials"... for the important phrasing is "instead of". So while they are all cheering and presenting this like it's extra... to me it seems like a downgrade from a 10 ep season to 3 long eps... and the specials will be considered season 15 you think? Or production season 12.
In 2027 all we are getting in one episode.
In 2028 two eps. Unless there's more of an order after season 14 premieres next week.
When they made the dvd movies they were clear these are going to be movie length and broken in 4 episodes. These seems a bit mysterious or maybe they don't know yet as they're still writing them.
Lauren Tom referred to them as 3 special movies... she referred to it as a pickup. She said kwanza is in it the xmas themed one... any holiday is stuffed into it she said.
Maurice LaMarche said they start recording the second one next week. And he's told there's a lot of Kiff.
Billy was just happy to be out with fans and having fun. He's always happy... I love him.
New Futurama extended specials ordered by Hulu
So we have season 14 premiering soon.
Then it turns out they've been working on 3 extended longer specials that will air I think in 2027 and maybe 2028. They said an x mas one will be first so doesn't that mean it wont premiere until late 2027?
But still no word on an actual new season.
The 3 specials are considered the 12th production season.
I think they will see how these new ones do and then decide from that.
At the Futurama comic-con panel just now Matt Groening announced a Futurama / Disenchantment crossover episode for upcoming season 14.
'Spaceballs: The New One' Parodies Marvel Panels at Comic-Con
I'm looking forward to this. I hope its good not just for my eyes but for Mel Brooks and everyone involved, it seems like they are having a great time.
This whole comic-con spoof thing sounds amazing... mocking the marvel disney comic-con timeline stuff is perfect... and Brooks at 100 is still hilarious.
which one of you mop buckets gonna get some Scruffy couture?
With comic-con underway... toddland has some exclusive swag in person but noticed this little nugget
Atari Signs Deal With Universal To Turn 10 Iconic Games Into Movies... which ones would make good horror movies?
The games they have the rights to are:
Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong and Yars’ Revenge.
Season 14 coming soon... but... where is Scruffy?
In the back of the Bender sub?
In the shark?
Maybe he IS the shark?
Night Nurse... a heads up to any A-listers thinking of seeing it
Saw this tonight... If you plan on seeing it, I just wanted to prepare you that it's sloooooooooooooooow. I did not overuse the o's. I'm not crapping on it just wanted you to walk in knowing what you are in for.
It's also very quiet. Like you're afraid to open a bag of candy kind of quiet.
I actually kinda liked it in an awkward wth is going on, why was this made, kind of way. Nicely shot, acted etc... just weird and slow.
It's just bizarre. Bizarre, slow, quiet. Like you're stoned and everything is moving in slow motion as you spy on some weird people.
I'm not slamming it... but just be aware it's not your standard thriller. It's called a sexual thriller but it's less thrilling (there's moments) but more character study and observational.
Upcoming S14 season finale (potentially series finale) is written by... Margot Pyrceman? This has to be another Ken Keeler pseudonym. What can the joke be?
According to the writer's guild Margot Pyrceman wrote the finale of season 14. But she doesn't exist... it has to be Ken Keeler, who has famously written multiple series finales for Futurama, including "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings," "Into the Wild Green Yonder," "Overclockwise," and "Meanwhile."
He's also used pseudonyms previously. He is Nona di Spargement... the name is a legal joke (non-disparagement) and he wrote "How The West Was 1010001," and "Otherwise," the Season 12 finale.
He also used Carolyn Premish for "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela."
So I have zero doubt this is him again and that it's some type of joke that I'm too dumb to figure out.
I was thinking Pyrceman could be Pyre... a funeral fire?
Maybe it's a letter swapping code? Alien language related?
Or said fast like Nona, it sounds like something else?
Good News everyone... we're just 3 weeks away from the season 14 premiere. But have you seen any ads real or online for it?
I started seeing ads for Hulu's King of the Hill locally (LA) last week... billboards, big wall displays... King (binge drop) premieres July 20... just 8 days away.
Futurama s14 premieres 2 weeks later. Weekly drops. I realized I've seen nothing.
2-3 years ago before S12 and S13 there were definitely more things around town. And Claudia Katz one of the producers talked about at comic-con how they were happy with the way Hulu was promoting the show.
Maybe the disastrous binge drop last year changed things?
Or maybe I'm wrong... anyone see anything?
