If you loved Obsession, you should maybe check out Leviticus

No spoilers, but it comes from the producers of Talk to Me, which was another low budget banger like Obsession that made nearly $100 million on a $4 million budget. Talk to Me was also about teens and connected with a lot of young film goers. Not to the degree of Obsession though.

Leviticus, like Obsession, has a small cast, a small town, teens/young adults, and a curse that gets intense. Both films horror focuses on relationships, lust, and love.

In Obsession it's a supernatural device that creates the issues, but there's more behind it. And in Leviticus there's more behind what's happening too.

Leviticus has some heavier themes, specifically what it means to be a gay teen and how the people around you can react. That probably makes it more niche, but both films tap into the same angst that exists in this world for young people (straight or gay) right now.

If Leviticus came out a year from now I'd assume it was inspired by Obsession, but I think they just both arrived from the same moment.

Leviticus has a 93 on RT. Obsession 95. It's not as high octane as Obsession gets, but it hits pretty well in the same way.

Can you rent a new rifftrax movie? I saw that Bridget and MJ have a new Sherlock Holmes but looks like it's just for purchase.

I love Rifftrax but I'm not really able to spend 10 plus dollars every time a new one comes out. I'd love to rent some.

I went on their site and saw there's a new Bridget and MJ Sherlock Holmes. I love those. I've rented before from Amazon. And caught them on Tubi and Pluto at various times.

I saw that mant RTs are for rent on Amazon but they appear to be older titles.

How long does it take for the new ones to filter down to rentals?

I liked Disclosure Day until I saw it tonight again... now I really love it. (no spoilers)

I'm not trying to convince someone who hates it to like it. Just sharing my experience seeing it a second time.

One of the things I like about have the pass is seeing s film more than once.

First time around I liked... but the film opens as the story has already started and jumps right in making it intentionally feel awkward and confusing. Then things come together later on. But watching again all that is so good and I see and hear more. I know who everyone is.

On a second viewing it feels like it moves so fast. I was glued to the seat even though I knew what was coming. I know some are disappointed it's not a huge set piece type of thing but it never slows down.

And Blunt is so good. Was good the first time but man it's such a fragile, funny, strong performance.

I made more connections this time... with the device and conspiracy and the ending... and the house... I got things I missed the first time.

To me it's all about the ending and how everyone reacts...

And it's about empathy and listening to one another... which is ironic with some of the reactions.

Season 14 is going to be weekly not binge.

I don't get what's happening at Hulu with the binge vs weekly thing... King of the Hill and Futurama, as well as other shows, started with binge drops last year. KOTH in fact is premiering in July still with the binge again.

Now, according to Collider, Futurama is going back to weekly. Kind of telling. Clearly Futurama binge didn't work out too well. Also back to summer.

The first two Hulu seasons they went weekly, and Futurama stayed in the Hulu top 15 for almost the entire run. I followed the rankings and it was very consistent: Season 12 would start on top, slowly drop, then go back to #1 when the new episode premiered.

But last year they changed to binge, and it stayed in the top 15 for less than a week, then it was gone.

Now back to weekly.

The paranoid fan in me says Hulu conceded to the producers for the (unannounced) final season.

But, no announcement was made that it's the final season. (Though I'm always psychologically prepared for it now.)

Just discovered another new fun one... The Day Time Ended...

Man... I love this Season 11 and 12 journey I've been on. Sorry I'm enjoying them. But this one The Day Time Ended is so funny.

First the movie itself is absolutely insane... and the riffs just make it amazing.

This comes from the director of another MST3k Outlaw of Gor... but Rifftrax has done his Kingdom of the Spiders with Shatner and The Dark 1979 and Mutant 1984 with Wings Hauser. All scifi b movies and super fun.

The plot of this is very light and kind of incomprehensible... a family in the dessert at some vacation house finds themselves haunted by a variety of creatures and aliens and lights and stop motion animation... and something about time... there's no real cohesion between anything. They are just reacting to everything somewhat. And the family has one of those annoying little girls.

I was giggling throughout the whole thing.

Did they suddenly all become NPCs? Such a great riff. The family reacts to all the insanity sometimes like it's just a normal day.

And the Music Man song is amazing... they put a lot into that. CROW: Man, I can't wait for the two of us to co-write this riveting completely coherent sci-fi story.

"This whole movie is like the cold opening of a columbo episode."

Side note: the grand mom in this movie looked familiar and realized she played the elder serial killer in Basic Instinct (a guilty pleasure movie for me)... then looked her up and she had an amazing career.

Also the mom is the same actress that's in Kingdom of the Spiders... the sister in law that Shatner wants to bang.

What' the craziest things you've seen in Los Angeles while driving?

Last night I was leaving Westwood and headed east on Sunset Blvd... you know that section through Bel Air, it's like an old school driving video game... swerves and curves and smooth, no parking or room for parking and NO shoulder. was 230am and very quiet...

This stretch between UCLA and Beverly Hills has no sidewalks and not shoulder and is dangerous for anyone not in a car.

Then I see something in the road approaching... a few cars hitting their brakes and getting around something. I see a figure in the road... and it's a guy on (I think) an electric skateboard carrying a bag over his shoulder... no lights... and heading east like me but he's on the left of the 2 east lanes not even on the right. He was basically invisible until the last minute.

one of the cars getting around him at the last second was a waymo.

It freaked me out. I wanted to stop and yell at him to move to the right but it happened so fast and none of my business I guess. Anyone not paying full attention would just mow him down.

I'll never forget the image of him because it was so stunning and scary. I hope he didn't get squished.

What's the craziest thing you've seen driving around town that is stuck in your head like memory burn?

Gotta be honest I loved this movie. Some friend recommended. All I knew it had a bad reputation. After I saw it I read about it. I kinda get why fans of the original would be upset that it was a comedy when the OG was serious. But to me it was this funny, goofy, dark gothic comedy...

  • the cinematography is gorgeous.
  • Eva Green is amazingly scene-chewingly great.
  • Johnny Depp is great at getting lost in a character and he's wickedly stoic funny here.
  • Michelle Pfeiffer is underused but always great.
  • And the supporting cast are dead on hilarious, like caretaker and his quiet mom.

Does coming to it new not knowing the anger and noise, (Budget, box-office, reviews etc) help it be more fun? I really didn't see a problem myself.

It was just a funny watch on a Sunday afternoon.

One of my favorite parts is the renovation montage. Barnabas fixing up the Mansion and the cannery and learning to live in our time, all set to Top of the World by The Carpenters. So absurd mix of this soaring, cheery Carpenters song playing over a vampire restoring his crumbling gothic mansion. And then he sees Carpenter singing it on TV, and says: 'Reveal yourself, tiny songstress! I've head that line before somewhere and never knew it was from that.

This whole thing just made me smile.

Just got this. Funny when it first aired fans didn't like the ep... but this will be forever.

Attack of the Killer App... I always liked it. I think it's aged well... especially a window into what new tech was like back in the day and the desire to own it.

It's a fun hour.

It's not a ton of Futurama talk. More about his life and career and pancakes and other things.

He mentions Futurama next season. Just that it's in the can. And he doesn't know when.

They don't do many table reads anymore. points to that it's tough getting the whole cast together. Jokingly brings up how Katey Sagal is always working on something.

Nothing about renewal or cancellation.

He did say his other show Best Medicine on Fox and Hulu was picked up for a second season.

And jokes about working for Hulu so much.

I liked it but this one's a hard sell. I'd call it darkly ethereal.

Half the movie is this nice mostly 2 character play... a Taylor Swift style superstar singer and her old costumer working together one night... and they have a history, a falling out... unresolved. This is them trying to resolve it. A lot of serious, dramatic dialogue heavy scenes with punches of humor.

I didn't know what to expect... I went in blind but I knew there was some type of suspense in involved.

THEN... a type of ghost story begins... much of it is told in flashback. But the film gets more intense. And it's all connected to the first half and their relationship.

Both sides of the movie are good and work well together but it's not what a true horror fan would be into.

The music and concert scenes are really solid. Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel are great.

I've been watching the season 11/12 live feed on youtube and just taking in whatever comes at me. S11 reminds me how happy I felt years ago when I first discovered MST3k in reruns. My first time was S10. So many giggles.

Then I backtracked and discovered the whole series.

These new eps are like that for me, maybe because I waited?

But I'm finally enjoying the later seasons. It's so much fun. Nothing beats Starcrash. And Killer Fisk. And The Day Time Stopped. Oh lord and Mac & Me.

Last night was Yongary.

I'm still trying to process how fun this was.

The movie itself is so insane.

As a Godzilla ripoff it's fun but completely illogical. That kid is basically a superhero. He keeps slipping away from the adults like a magician. The film is like on a loop. They want to kill the monster. The kid finds out a clue how to kill Yongary then helps wake him up to dance? Then they have to kill him all over again with dust?

The riffs are great. I'm gonna be watching this one a lot more. There's so many fun moments but my mind is loaded.

Is this one popular?

Season 11 is just so fun. I'm on an MST3k high lol.

I'm near a pretty well known college by me the other night. I'm seeing a movie nearby. There's a few guys who live near the theater that i've hooked with with before. i turned on grindr to check to see if they're around. They aren't.

As I'm heading home a student at the college, 21, hits me up, I'm 10 years older. TBH I'm very athletic and in very good shape. And to repeat... he hit me up. I don't like to message young guys I feel like a creep for some reason. But if they hit me up I figure it's cool.

At this point I'm a few miles away but grindr location must have been stuck on when I opened it.

I say sure. I tell him let's meet outside first so he's sure he's into me. I don't want him to feel trapped if I showed up at his place. I turn around and head back.

We meet. He likes me a lot. He's adorable and sweet. Wants to go back to his place. He's super horny. He melts every time I touch him. At first I thought he was just a nice horny dude but he's def kinky. He's getting very touchy on the public walk.

And it's so funny because he lives in a dorm. It's not security kind of thing it's all open. He brings me up, gets touchy in the elevator. he sneaks me into his place. I felt like I was in college again. His roomie he shares a room with is gone but another is asleep in the other bedroom. Kinda hot.

In his room he wants to be stripped. Be a sub. Told what to do. I oblige.

He wants to stand in front of the mirror and see himself.

I'm having a blast.

Then he wants to do it in his roomie's bed. OK that was a little weird.

Long story short...I'm there like 2 hours middle of the night. He was very into me. Very sweet.

He started calling me daddy. Wanted to be spanked. All on him. I just followed whatever he liked. And he was digging it a lot.

I think the other roomie heard the spanking and we heard him walking around.

I was having a good time but honestly happy this guy was having a blast.

Then when he's done... his personality shifted a bit. Yeah post cum panic. He's polite but def different.

I leave... then he blocks me lol or removes his profile within like 30 minutes. I suspected it might happen so I checked.

It's happened to me before... one time a guy did the same thing then found me again then deleted then found me again and now we message regularly.

But it's always weird because I know he had such a good time.
