Who is the most bike-friendly mayor candidate?

Title. I’m basically a single issue voter for bike lanes, so if any candidates are reading this you have a fast-track for my vote. 🗳️

If e-motos are too dangerous for NYC streets (they are) how in the hell is that logic not applied to SUVs.

Am I wrong or are Flock cameras actually good for street safety and accountability?

After being out of the loop for a while, I’ve been reading all the backlash against flock, but from what I understand if you are a cyclist or pedestrian your data isn’t logged.

But if you’re a victim of a hit and run the police and your lawyer can query Flock to find the vehicle.

It really just seems like motorist hysteria over potentially being held accountable.

And as for “Orwellian police state tracking” claims, well we already give up cell data and cameras are everywhere. Seems weird to draw the line at cameras that exclusively track cars.

Or is there something I’m missing?

Found an Aussie Deep V and kinda went from there.

Bought this bike new in ‘07.
A month ago rear wheel #4 gave out, luckily I had a spare Deep V that was era appropriate. Then I added a new drive train.
Release the Epstein files.
Thank you for your attention on this matter.

Can somebody recommend wheel build specs for a Pugs 29er?

Hi,

I want to commute more with my pugs, so I’m thinking 29er wheels on 2.1 tires. The commute is 13 miles paved and flat.

Proper offset rims for the 17.5mm dish are hard to find but since it’s for paved commuting I figure I can get away with it.

So I was wondering if anybody can hook me up with a rim/hub/spoke combo that works and is readily available through Q or some other online source so I don’t have to fiddle with the spoke calculation.

Or if you can recommend a heavily offset rim and a good spoke calculator that’d be cool too.

Thanks

Minivelo for long commute?

Hi,

I’m thinking of getting a minivelo like a Kyoot or something so I can take it on the train more easily. My commute is 10 miles each way through the city, and after daylight savings I like to ride in the morning but take the train home at night.

I’ve had a folding bike in the past but it was a hassle, and the convenient high-quality folders like Brompton are too expensive. That’s why I’m thinking minivelo.

Anybody here have minivelo experience they’d like to share?

The pic is there as an example, it’s not my bike.

New laptop storage for the xracing commuter

The old race bike has been re-activated as a commuter on the condition that I only use stuff from my parts bin, whether it fits or not.

Had to mount the rack stay to the canti braze-on stop b/c there aren’t any nubs and I didn’t want to risk p-clamping.

Cut holes in the laptop case and secured it to the rack with zip ties.

Works great and I love. ❤️

Train Vacation in St.Joseph/Benton Harbor?

We want to take the train from Chicago to Michigan and have a car-free vacation. Anybody ever done this? We have 2 small kids and we mainly just want to stroll to the beach and hit up some cute shops, maybe a kids museum if it rains.

Thoughts on the White Ind Dos 16/18 freewheel?

Hi! I’m thinking of putting a White Industries Dos freewheel with a 16/18 combo on my commuter, but wanted to ask the hive mind first. Any thoughts?

Is there anything to be done about reckless kids on the 606?

From experience I can tell you being a teenager in the city is really hard. Everyone is out to get you and automatically assumes the worst, plus there’s nowhere to hang out.

Also it’s good to encourage youth cycling and being social in public. The 606 is a shared, safe place for youngsters and should stay that way. Yadda yadda.

With all that said, man, I’m just trying to get home to my family without breaking my arm. These gd kids have way too much confidence and like 0.001% control. No skill, no awareness, just blind trust that we’ll all look out for them.

And that’s the end of my old-fart rant.

My Lucky Pierre, now with fenders

I wanted a commuter but all I had was a used LP frame, so I made it into a commuter by forcing fenders on to it, and also bags all over.

I had to cut holes in the fenders b/c the v-brake was hitting, so now water sprays everywhere. It’s great.

A nice lady on the internet made the frame bag. The Sewing Wiz(?) I think.

Anyway the bike is 14 years old and has cracks all over the carbon, so enjoy it while it lasts people.

I made a fidget out of all the weird links I had.

I only had 3 weird links but that’s ok. One of them is really weird.

Wait I’m confused. Teenagers on scooters are getting hit by cars, so the solution is to regulate scooters. But not the cars. The cars that are crashing into the scooters: you’re golden. Scooter riders are at fault for getting crashed into?

So if I take my scooter education course and follow every law but I get hit by a drunk SUV driver going the wrong way, do I submit my suggestion to update the scooter education course through an app or is it going to be automated with AI?

Personally, my driving habits are pretty inelastic b/c I only drive when it’s necessary and there are no other options, so my number is about $20/gallon. The current $5/6 per gallon really doesn’t seem too bad to me.

What about the rest of you?
