This is Qiqi. He’s not strictly a bodega boy, per se, but lives at my building - and I do believe he will occasionally make an appearance at the bodega around the corner.

He’s well cared for by my building superintendent - and as you can see, very literate.

Caught REZN last night and they were terrific. This was my third time seeing them and I was thrilled that their saxophonist was given more time to open up and really shine compared to previous performances.

Another highlight was Philly post-rock outfit Hiroe. My enthusiasm for the genre has dimmed in recent years but their three guitar lineup is creating some gorgeous soundscapes.

These were sold out the second they went on sale - even for those of us with presale codes. I can’t fathom how anyone managed to get tickets.

Gotta admit: Smart move on Anthrax’s part to land a high-profile slot christening the launch of the newly reopened seminal NYC metal venue St. Vitus.

I think it’ll get a lot of people listening to the new record and renew their interest in the band. Ten years is a long time between albums. They’re also filming the entire thing.

While I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Big 4, I’ve been lackadaisical on anything each has put out in the past 15 years. And while I have tickets to see Anthrax, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden next week, I’ve purchased them more out of a sense of dutiful obligation:

My enthusiasm for these types of shows has largely waned considering huge amphitheater shows - through no fault of the bands themselves - have totally different vibes than smaller club shows.

That’s why this St. Vitus show is so exciting.

I’m happy that Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, and Metallica can fill big rooms. But there’s no substitute for 500+ metalheads squeezed into a tiny room for 90 minutes going Metal Thrashing Mad™.

Shot in the dark here, but I’m wondering if anyone can help me zero in on a rough timeframe and culture for this wedding photo.

It’s something I recently had framed with some other old family photos, assuming they were a group of people that I could eventually identify through genealogical research and speaking with family.

But no dice. Can anyone help? Is their attire specific to a certain culture, or was it standard at the time? For what it’s worth, all of eight of my great-grandparents emigrated from Italy and Poland between 1906 and 1913.

Any help would be much appreciated!

That’s where she’s from. The family name is “Danielcyzk.”

Hi all! I’m an American with Polish lineage.

I’ve been increasingly getting into genealogy in order to learn more about my family background. I have been using ancestry.com to pull documents, including U.S. Census records and ship manifests - including the screenshot attached here from a 1907 passenger list.

Can anyone help identify this locality? On the document, their nationality is listed as Austrian and their “race or people” as Polish.

Any help would be much appreciated. If this question should be directed elsewhere, please let me know. Thanks!

There’s no reputable polling and no real reporting on the race shining a light on the electorate. Churchill himself notes he’s self-funding his advertising blitz. Does that make him the odds-on favorite?

Churchill also notes Constantino is targeting the low-propensity voters who are less likely to vote in primaries as opposed to the party faithful, who are backing Smullen.

End It delivered. While it didn’t affect their sound, it was interesting seeing the band with multiple fill-ins.

Pain of Truth were the highlights, tough act for Terror to follow. Caught Cruel Hand as well.

Who’s all going? Has anyone been to one of these Rocks Off cruises before? I’ve gone several times and still amazed that I’ve seen bands like Pig Destroyer, Crowbar, and Eyehategod bobbing within a few hundred yards of the Statue of Liberty. (And no, Crowbar didn’t sink the boat last year, but Primitive Man might tonight).

It’s hot as balls in here already. Gonna be a long weekend.

Caught Ingrown tonight. What’s in the water in Boise? Best way I can describe these guys is fucking mean and vicious. They ripped through 10 songs in 20 minutes and dipped. Witness Chamber, also from Idaho, were a nice surprise. Heavy, crushing metallic hardcore with occasional clean vocals from the drummer.
