When people ask what your worst call is

I've been a career firefighter for just over a year and a volunteer for almost 4 years.

Today I had someone ask me for the first time what my worst call was. I downplayed it and just said we sometimes see dead people on the job, to keep from going into details.

What the heck do you say in that situation? Some people are so clueless how that comes across.

Do you put stickers on helmets?

Do you guys put any stickers on your helmets or do your departments have SOPs against that?

Obviously something tasteful like union stickers, flags, 9/11 memorial stickers etc.

I have a 🇨🇦 and a support sticker (department issued) for a member who is currently battling occupational cancer.

I've been debating on a small IAFF sticker as well for my union bucket.

Just wondering what the general consensus is.

How to stop snoring at work

So my wife has complained about my snoring periodically but not every night. I've made a conscious effort to stop snoring as much as possible by stomach sleeping, etc.

I was recently made aware by a few coworkers that I snore pretty loudly, and one of them even recorded it to show me. Low and behold, I sound like a chainsaw. I know this isnt a nightly thing but I really dont want to be "that guy" that annoys everyone with my snoring, especially since im still fairly new in the fire service. It's typically only really bad when im massively overtired after a busy day plus a workout.

Any recommendations for effective ways to stop snoring? TIA.

Henry All Weather

My first 30-30 lever gun, ever. Pretty excited to put some rounds through it.

Henry safety question

Hey all, I've purchased my first Henry, an All Weather 30-30 for predator defense on some rugged backpacking trips.

I already own a Marlin 1894 in .357 for context, so I am familiar with lever guns and how they operate.

I know the Henry doesnt have a half cock option, and I just want to confirm that with the hammer decocked it won't contact the firing pin so I could carry one in the chamber? If that is a safe option I will likely do that, then I can top off my mag tube for a total of 6 rounds vs 5.

TIA

1894 Guide Gun in .357/38spl

Anyone have experience with this gun and want to weigh in? Are they rugged and reliable for backwoods hiking trips and hunting? I'm about to pull the trigger on one (pun intended) but wanted to grab some real world feedback quick first.

Thanks!

Yet another sizing question 😅

I realize this gets asked a million times in here lol

47mm Fenix 7 on a 7 1/4" (18.4cm) wrist

Thoughts? I feel like its great, but definitely wouldn't go any bigger.

6.5 vs .308 vs 30-06

Hey all, I need help making a decision. I own a Tikka CTR in 6.5 manbun 😏 (creedmoor) and a Tikka T3 in 30-06. I've been debating selling the 30-06 to fund a .308 build because there are more tactical options in .308 (heavy barrel, larger mag capacity etc).

My question is just if there is enough of a distinction between the 6.5cm and the .308 to make it even worth it to own both, or if I am going to own two of essentially the same rifle.

I can appreciate that the 308 doesn't hit as hard as the 30-06 for big game, but 308 ammo is slightly cheaper and more plentiful.

Is there any sense to be made to owning a 6.5 and a .308?

Top to bottom:

590A1 20" (Rattle canned with OD)

590 Retrograde 20"

500 Mossy Oak 24"

Maverick 88 18.5"

So I owned a 590 Retrograde a few years back and sold it to fund another project. Recently I developed sellers remorse and purchased another. When the gun showed up it has two different colours of wood between the stock and forend.

My original retrograde was the darker more cherry colour wood, this one has a darker forend but a significantly lighter stock. I absolutely love the colour of the stock, but wish they would match. Should I contact Mossberg about it?

Photos of my original retrograde and my current one are attached. The colour difference is more obvious in person than in photos.
