I’ve got this marlin 336 in 30-30 I inherited from a family member. Not long after acquiring it the stock split (last 2 pictures) and I ended up ordering a new stock from marlin but it doesn’t quite fit right. I looked up the serial number and it looks like the gun was manufactured in 1949 (F stamp) so it makes sense that designs/tolerances would change in ~70 years. I’m assuming custom furniture would be the best route for this, I just have no idea where to start looking for something like that. Also iron sight recommendations would be appreciated as well. The old weaver scope is fine but I would prefer a decent set of irons.

I recently acquired an S&W 1854 with the gold bead front sight and the XS Ghost Ring rear sight. I love the gun but so far the jury's still out on the sights.
I find the bead on the front sight difficult to see, but I can probably fix that with a dab of red paint. My bigger problem is that the diameter of the Ghost Ring rear sight is so large that it's difficult for me to tell when I have the front and rear sights aligned. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Is there a specific technique I can practice to account for the large rear sight diameter?
Failing that, does anyone have a recommendation for a different rear sight?
Thanks ....
I’m looking for a deer rifle for my sister for her upcoming birthday. She’s always been obsessed with lever guns, despite the fact that getting her a bolt gun would be easier. My big issue is that she needs something with a short length of pull, shorter than what most would probably need. I’m aware that I can get her a youth model bolt gun fairly easily, but I figure this is probably a good place to look for suggestions before I resort to that. Thank you!
Edit: Thanks for the recommendations folks! I have a good idea of what I’ll be looking for now!
This was my first real rifle - purchased in 1996. I recently added:
Ashley Performance Mount
Leupold Medium Dovetail Rings
Burris Fullfield 2-8x35 mm
This mount requires dual dovetail rings which don’t seem to be easily available. It’s currently mounted just for mock up with a set of standard rings. The dual dovetails should arrive tomorrow, and I will torque it down and set it up permanently.
The eye relief is just about dead on for me and I love the aesthetics.
Besides the “Cool Factor” what is the practical purpose of a Mare’s Leg lever gun?
Maybe it’s just my training but on normal rifles and handguns that I want to hit the target on the first shot, but it seems like that would be a challenge with one of these. Too gangly to be used as a pistol and you can’t steady it to use as a rifle.
If it fits you for your purpose, you do you, I’m never gonna a judge someone for their weapon of choice, but I’m just trying to figure out why they are popular. Not to insult, just curious.
Just got a Marlin 45-70 this past weekend and I'm loving it so far.
I don't need it but think it would be sweet to have and keep for a long time. Just as a range gun. This or the Marlin 1894 in similar configuration. But the Rossi is 25% less.
Mine does not, shooting a around a V-tac barricade really opened my eyes to how finley tuned machines these things are.
Not many of these around. 30-30 Win.
The handguard I drew up myself in CAD and sent it to get printed in aluminium as no aftermarket exists.
Leupold VX-3HD glass.
Skinner barrel mount peep sight.
Should've done less defined green lines, but oh well. It will wear in.
So you think you're a Space Cowboy? Well you thought so, until somebody pulls this abomination out connected to their Henry Big Boy. I'd just pick up my lever and go home. They win.
