How should I approach studying with low ferritin and a draining part time job?

I have to prepare for the most important admission test of my life for the chance to attend my dream university.I’m really exhausted because I have low ferritin levels as well as trying to balance my part time job I hate. I have covered the writing task and also had a lot of experience through writing practice essays every week in preparation for my Alevel psychology exam and the critical thinking practice questions. The main part I am not that confident about is problem solving questions and sometimes when I get a question wrong I feel so discouraged and wonder if my Alevel grades will go to waste because of it. I’m not sure how to stop it from demotivating me.

How seriously are extenuating circumstances taken?

My dream is Oxford human sciences and during school I struggled with bullying to the point I was sent a knife video, health issues and family through my time at school.
Sometimes the bullying was so bad and people would follow me around school asking when the fight would be happening as they were so desperate for entertainment. I came from a low income household so catering to food aversions from neurodivergence wasn’t really something I had. I completely lost my appetite because of the bullying and had a bmi of 14.2 during my first year of secondary school combined with health issues and ended up with a ferritin level of 3 between the ages of 12-18 (potentially longer).

I managed to get through GCSEs but had to retake 2 a-levels this year and got A* in the subject I self studied and an A in the other. I was unable to complete retakes in my third alevel because of some personal issues and will have to prepare this year. It got to a point my anxiety became so bad I experienced a panic attack in my first paper but pushed through and still managed to get an A. I genuinely tried everything and even attempted to move to a domestic violence refuge. I don’t mean this to sound arrogant but nothing matters to me more than my work ethic and I am willing to do whatever it takes. I currently have an unstable job and get treated poorly by people and it reinforces how my wasted potential is making my soul ache.

At them moment my health has slightly improved and I am working to gain weight as my adhd meds made me lose 15kg during exam season and I am undergoing medical testing for suspected narcolepsy. Recently, I have rediscovered my love of reading which is something that brought me comfort when I was younger and I used to have a higher than average reading ability when I first started school. In a situation like this how do you suggest framing my experiences in a way that doesn’t sound like I’m guilt tripping the admissions tutors.

Is Oxford out of bounds?

I experienced (health related and domestic abuse) in my GCSEs an mainly got 7s,6s and 5s. For my alevels this continued and I went on a gap year to retake 2 and got A\*A. The issues at home were quite bad and I’ve wasted years trying to cope with the disappointment of feeling inadequate through sh.

This year has been really difficult for me as the domestic abuse I have been suffering all through my education intensified right before my exams. It got to a point where I had to try an move into a domestic abuse refuge and ended up having a panic attack in my first Alevel exam. I’m in a better place and was able to move out after my exams. I have written a really good personal statement and began some intense revision for the Tara. My dream course is human sciences at Oxford and I would be interested in knowing if anyone has been in a similar position. It makes my heart ache to consider what my academic trajectory would have looked like if I sought help sooner and didn’t have to deal with all this alongside balancing revision and university applications.

How do you suggest preparing for the essay section of the Tara?

I initially assumed it expects us to draw on information form books/ alevels but I thought it was kinda contradictory for the guide to say it’s best to avoid arguments that rest on examples. If anyone’s got experience with the Tara I would love to hear how you prepared for it.

Are second retakes accepted when absent from exams?

I retook all 3 a-levels privately as I struggled attending school because of documented health issues. During my retake year I suffered a medical emergency that left me unable to sit my exams and I was able to go from a B to A\* in subject, C to A in the other subject and went from D to a C in the exam I was too unwell to sit. I still tried to attend the exam I was too unwell to sit, which is why I got a C, I was unwell and ran out of time to complete the questions and ended up having to attend A and E afterwards. I have suffered from domestic abuse from my mother through education and tried to move out to a domestic abuse refuge during my exams. In a scenario like this, would a second retake in the exam I was too unwell to attend be accepted? I am interested in their human sciences course and feel as though I have it in me to work really hard for the TARA.

There’s really nothing left for me to live for

Because of a centre’s administration error I received no calculated mark for a paper I was genuinely too unwell to sit. The exam office hasn’t responded to any of my emails and I am so tempted to do it. The thought of being in a life I hate for any longer makes me think about how I would free I will feel the moment I realise it’s going to end and that I’ll finally be able to escape from the literal hell that my life has become. I really have nothing left even though I poured so much of myself into my preparing for the future I’ve always envisioned.

He do I begin pacing to manage autoimmune related fatigue?

I don’t have anything official diagnosis of cfs but am at high risk of developing it as I have an autoimmune condition and recently had a chest infection. I used to have a ferritin level of 3 and normal haemoglobin and it has now been resolved. I moved out a toxic household and I noticed that I was no longer waking up with awful muscle cramp pain from the stress but the fatigue is still there. I also realised that the muscle twitches have reduced. There was mould in the washing machine and in my old bedroom and I don’t know how to detox from it.

I recently worked 2 days in a row with 8 hours of sleep combined and this job involved having to pull down a shutter for a van over 20 times and this morning I slept through every single alarm as I was too weak to wake up. My whole body is aching and feels sore as hell and I’m not sure if starting to work out and getting a heart monitor would help as I tend to get out of breath very easily and suffer from lower back stiffness. I’m really worried about becoming immobile and muscle atrophy preventing me from having freedom in my later years. When I came home yesterday I got the most random stabbing pains in my hand and foot. I don

Does anyone else feel this drained?

I’ve finished retaking my alevels and it’s genuinely destroyed my body as I’ve lost 14kg because of stress. I live in a toxic household and have slowly moved my stuff into my new flat as I’ve been wanting to move out ever since February because of how bad the emotional abuse from my mother is. One night I stayed up crying my eyes out because I couldn’t stop ruminating on everything in the past. I began self harming and contemplating if I should overdose and had to miss my morning exam because of how distressed I became. During these exams I became really anxious and completely lost my appetite. Even though the exams are over I’m still losing weight and feel sick to my stomach trying to finish a full meal. Most days I live off 300calories. I tried to take fluoxetine but got an awful headache and insomnia and hated cbt as I felt it pathologised everything. I kind of know I need to go to the doctors but I’m so scared of being sectioned as even if I were to go into hospital I don’t think I would be able to adhere to a high calorie meal plan and am worried that I’ll end up with a feeding tube. Sometimes I interpret the scale dropping as proof of my suffering because in a weird way it validates that it’s not all in my head. My entire body feels weak and I wish I could just fade away into nothing as the existential dread makes me hopeless for the future. Last night I woke up with the worst chest pains and thought that I was dying. It’s like my life is a divine punishment and I don’t know what I’ve done to warrant this. I hate everything about my life and myself and don’t have anyone I can turn to in real life.

Is it worth starting propranolol?

My exam is tmr and I’m unsure if it will make my symptoms worse.

I’m so sleep deprived as every time I try to reset my sleep schedule something comes up. My mum literally wakes me up to scream as she hates seeing me relax and starts arguments at night with other people in the household. My hands are shaking like crazy and I can barely sit as my desk without feeling like I’m gonna collapse. I’ve never felt fatigue like this before and it’s left my entire body aching. My biology exam is Tuesday and I actually don’t even know what to do. The night before paper 2 I couldn’t stop ruminating on everything wrong with my life and spent the entire night crying. I was so overwhelmed that I resorted to sh and began contemplating whether I should overdose off my adhd meds. I was so distraught after and alongside a personal issue it left me unable to attend my biology exam later that morning. I can’t bear loud sounds or bright lights as it feels like someone’s screaming in my eardrums. I genuinely feel like I could dissociate at any moment. I hardly have energy to do anything and have lost over 10kg in the span of a few months and began developing lanugo and pretty much on the verge of being underweight. I kind of have a distorted view of my body and didn’t even notice for ages.

I’ve never felt this unprepared

I have 2 exams back to back tmr and I’m so overwhelmed. I’m really worried about failing and can hardly sleep. Anytime I come across a concept I’m not 100% on I genuinely feel sick to my stomach. I haven’t been able to sleep and self harmed as I really don’t know what to do. I’ve got adhd and took stimulants and rn I’m so tempted to take the rest. I actually dk what’s wrong with me. I hate how my body is contaminated with scars I get grossed out having to see it everyday.

I don’t think I’ll ever be content

At first I convinced myself I just need to get through my retakes and now that exams are here I have become so overwhelmed. I relapsed on self harm because of some personal issues even thought I stopped for 2 years. I wish there was more I could do to pull myself out this hole. Whether an exam goes good or bad all I have to look forward to is the nausea from my anxiety. I really don’t know what to do anymore and I’m losing weight like crazy. The all nighters have left me feeling physically faint from stretching the day after and my entire body feels so weak.

How do I study with depression?

I am already on a gap year to retake alevels and I feel so isolated as I am homeschooled and can’t reach out to anyone for support. Almost every day for the past few months I’ve cried myself to sleep over family issues and when I wake up the next day with puffy eyes not once has my mother bothered asking if I’m ok. I’ve became so burnt out that it’s making my soul ache. I have so many exams back to back next week I don’t even know if I can do this.
