What does the 85% mean
I was wondering what Sony meant with the 85% since I find it quite high. What I think is that Sony is counting all digital purchases, including demos, digital-only releases, and free-to-play games like Fortnite. I personally only bought physical games for my consoles, but I did download some free-to-play games and a bunch of demos for all PlayStations with a digital storefront. The way to get a more accurate depiction of the favor towards digital is by only counting full digital games that also released physically, and by also considering the used market by seeing how many users have the disc version on their PlayStation. This is the only way to truly know the percentage of people buying digital. I personally don't know how Sony got this number, but I'm quite sure they at least didn't keep the used game sales in mind.
Why is piracy considered immoral in Japan while Gen AI is perfectly fine?
A few months ago there was this controversy about Nier: Reincarnation where a group of Japanese loudly proclaimed their stance towards piracy (I know this is not the case for all Japanese people), but this made me wonder what justifies the use of AI for Japanese people. Most Gen AI models are (at least partially) trained on data without consent from the original creator/copyright holder, which could be considered piracy. The user then generates something from this stolen data and, in some cases, even tries to sell this in the form of AI-generated games or make money from this in the form of YouTube/TikTok/Instagram videos and even physical products like books and other products. While piracy is indeed taking a creative work from the creator without consent or compensation, nobody makes money from piracy because people don't buy pirated games; they do buy AI-generated games, books and other products or watch AI-generated videos, which gives the person behind the creation of this content ad revenue. Why is this seen as morally correct while piracy is seen as immoral?
