Hanging around a government office

These photos were taken in and out of the immigration department building in Bangkok, Thailand.

I used a combo of the 24-200, Viltrox 28 f4.5, and the 40 f2.

It was around midday and overcast. The 28 is good for times like this.

The One Rule

This is the one rule, exposed by the piss Lord Serrano from The Piss of Christ. Taken by haters jerks from the piss of Serrano himself!

One rule to jerk them all. One rule to find them. One rule to bring them all and in the hate piss bind them.

This sub blows (not jerks) a lot of times

I feel like 90% of the posts on here are just personal distaste for people. A lot of these are perfect examples of hater posts, and sometimes even misogynistic or meant to bully from folks trying to find like minded people.

I feel like this sub has made me more inclined to share my views (certainly on Reddit). I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re in the same boat as I am, remember that these people's opinions don't matter. Who cares.

That guy who was jerking the holocaust memorial and jerking homeless people suck but not as much as this sub sucks for being the only circle jerk that openly mocks people while mostly hiding their own posts. Distaste aside, they are also just plain uncreative jerks.

So one of the biggest tropes on here is PISSS.

I believe it means when a photo has too much warmth and or saturation. I think it also just means shitty photo. It’s used so flauntingly it’s hard to tell.

But along with PISSS there’s the additional what country looks like piss mock that I see, Mexico and oddly Japan.

Really why is Piss and Japan a jerk. Even most Fuji shooters shoot Japan in colder blue tones but with deep reds.

So let’s put you guys to the test.

What countries favor warmer tones in the photos to communicate the vibe/climate of the place?

▲ 175 r/photographycirclejerk+2 crossposts

Some of you may recognize me as the guy who has been having a go at this sub's true intent as a circle jerk.

I ended up here after I noticed r/photographycirclejerk being tagged a lot in posts on other camera subs but mostly in the Fuji and Leica subs. Not knowing what a subreddit circle jerk was I decided to check it out.

After browsing a few posts I noticed that this sub was predominately crossposts. I found this to be a little weird especially when the comments mostly mocked the OOP. I had always assumed that circle jerks were these sort of hidden forums that light heartedly made fun of tropes and echo chambers that become common place in broader subreddits.

In order to understand how this sub worked I created a parody post in the fujifilm sub and within minutes it got cross posted here 3 times. I noticed that the comments in the original post and in the ones posted here contained many of the same mocking comments made by the same people. "As a Fujifilm user I hate other Fuji users" was an interesting one. I then checked and noticed that there was a lot of people from this sub going into the other subs and doing the same sort of mocking that they do here.

Thinking that all of this seemed to be more than just playful humor and more in line with real hating due to jealousy and bitterness, I looked into other circlejerk subs and found a few interesting things.

Most have rules that crossposting isn't allowed. They have this rule because as we see in this sub, it makes things a bit too personal. You're going from attacking the trope to attacking the people for the trope. An example is the crosspost from r/leica of the grand opening of the Leica Chicago store. Several comments were blown up photos of the people in attendance with comments calling them sociopaths and twats. Those are real people. How is this harmless fun?

"It’s a good thing that being a pretentious twat doesn’t cause precipitous rises in blood pressure or the whole lot of them might be in danger of stroking out."

"They should close the doors with everyone inside and never look back."

"My wife and I went to an art opening at the Chicago store Thursday. So many nerds walking around with their cameras held at chest level like they’re either trying to show off or prepared to shoot a pic at any second in this gallery that was PACKED. There were three musicians and these nerds were swarming them 🤦

lol it was this night. I see someone I know here. These photos look exactly like what I was expecting haha"

"You gotta forgive the geezers. Those are just harmless autists who are in it for the love of the game. Anyone <45 is a sociopath"

Another reason why crossposting is usually not allowed is that it encourages the hate to then spread into the original post and leads to brigading but we will get to that later.

Another issue that I see with the crossposting on here is how repetitive it is. It is rather common to see the same post crossposted multiple times and then stay up here. Given that many are doing this to mock people, it then crosses the line of harassment as people on reddit see when their posts are crossposted.

When you view other photography related circle jerks like r/analogcirclejerk, its mostly self depreciating humor with the vast majority of the content being provided by the poster (photos of their own gear and their own work).

  1. Another common rule that I see on other circle jerk is no brigading. This is actually a reddit wide rule but subs add it to remind its users to follow it. This is when people from the circle jerk go into the subs they are making fun and then carry on the mocking there. I see this happening a lot and what its doing is adding to the antagonistic nature that already exists in photography discussion forums.

I think that the lack of moderation on here and no rules except "be stupid" has possibly led to there being some confusion as to what a circle jerk should be and its attracting more actual haters and promoting harmful mockery that is spreading to other subs. I am just posting this to bring awareness to these issues and hope that the people who are taking part in this sub realize that your actions may be crossing that blurred line between real hate and satire.
