Narrow and deep wheels vs Shallow(er) and wide

I'm comparing a few (cheap) options for an endurance bike on which I want to run 32mm GP5000.

  • Wheelset 1 : 50mm deep, 22 internal, 30 external width, 1550g
  • Wheelset 2 : 35mm deep, 25 internal, 32 external width, 1660g

I'm thinking #2 would be a better match with the 32mm tires (but not perfect for the 105 rule). But I wonder if #1 wouldn't be faster due to the extra depth. Obviously deep and wide would be perfect, but the prices are much higher.

Any rumors of a new Roubaix?

With Trek releasing its 5th gen of the Domane and getting rid of the IsoSpeed in favor of bigger tires, I wonder how long it would take before specialized releases an updated Roubaix. Current design is getting a bit old and I think we're due for a simpler bike, without thr Future Shock.

Any rumors?

Terrible headrest

I'm back from a test drive. Liked the car a lot for a lot of reasons, but I came back with neck pain. The headrest are terrible - I could not find a position in which I was comfortable, they always pushed my head too far forward.

Is this something that can be addressed in some way?

Is the big center console annoying you after a while?

It seems to be the only thing preventing me from pulling the trigger. I found it kinda annoying during my test drive, with my knee always resting against it. I'm only 5'9 but have pretty long legs.

Seems like the kind of thing you truly know if it's bothersome or not after owning the car for a while, but I'm not sure I'd like to gamble on that.

Heating in cold weather?

How's the heating of this car in cold (Canadian weather) winter? One of thr things I like about my wife id4 is that it gets toasty in 1-2 minutes, melting snow and ice in the windows. The Ioniq being a huge car, I wonder if it's a realistic expectation.

Should I get this car ?

In Canada.

I currently evaluating different options to replace my CR-V 2016. On top of my list was the Subaru Trailseeker. It's a good car, but I realized during the test drive that the big center console bothers me a lot.

Since there's a Hyundai dealer right next door to the Subaru dealer, I decided to go have a look at the Ioniq 9. I had previously written off anything by Kia or Hyundai because of their ICCU issue, but I decided to take the 9 for a test drive anyways.

OMG. I like it A LOT. Great driving position, lots of cargo and passenger space, pretty much the perfect car for me (not a big fan of the look, and a touch expensive tho).

If it wasn't for that damn ICCU issue, I'd probably buy it. I kept my last two cars 10 years and would like to do the same with this one, but I'm not sure if it's really a good plan considering its (perceived?) reliability issues. I'm not really a fan of the idea of being stranded on the side of the road during a family vacation, or having sudden loss of power on the highway.

Should I take the plunge anyways? Current owners, would you get one again?

Fast endurance bike - Caledonia 2026 vs Giant Defy?

Which one would you go for? I like to push myself and go fast, but don't have the morphology or flexibility for a full fledged race bike.

I'd go for a 105 di2 build.

Giant seems to offer better value for money, but I don't like their narrow, hookless carbon wheels, which I would probably sell to get something else, putting both bikes close in price.

Rigidity? Weight? Comfort? Warranty support?

Madone SL Gen 8 - any known issue ?

So my LBS has an amazing deal on last year SL6. The wheels aren't amazing and it's not an aero cockpit, put those are things that will be easy to upgrade later.

Aside from that, is there any know issue or quality problem with the bike ? For example, I know this generation Domane has a lot of reported seatpost issues. Some other bikes are notorious for creaking. Any such thing with the Madone Gen 8 SL ?

Looking for a harness that won't harm his throat

My little Coton is now 4.5 months old and weights 8 pounds. Walking is sometimes difficult, as he can become suddenly overexcited and pull a lot on the leash (especially if he walks on a patch of grass). Unfortunately, he seems to have a hard time breathing when he pulls and can cough a little I'd he overdo it.

I think his current harness is a bit too high in the front and somehow restricts his throat. I wouldn't want to give him a collapsed trachea, so I'm looking for a harness recommandation in that regard.

Thanks!

Rain cover for pee pad

I've had my very sweet Coton de Tuléar for a little more than two months. He's now 4.5 months old and has been doing his business on a fake grass tray on our deck since the beginning. It took very little time to train him and its super convenient, since we have almost no grass and need to get down many stairs to get to it. We don't want to collar him (fragile neck) or have to put him in his harness 6x a day just to take a leak.

We'd like for him to keep going on the deck, the only issue is that the fake grass tray reeks if I don't clean it every two days, which is a pretty big hassle. Plus, draining the thing on the side of the deck is probably bad for both the structure of the deck and my house concrete foundation over the long term.

I was thinking of using pee pads for the outside, since they trap the liquids and odors better and can be changed regularly. The only issue is with rain, they would get soaked immediately.

So I'm looking for some kind of pee pad holder with an integrated cover, that would allow me to protect the pad from the elements while not used. Does anyone have an idea of a product that would cover this need? I'd like to use XL pads, to avoid accidental splashes.

Grooming and whiskers

My 4 months old puppy went for a trim today and the groomer cut his whiskers, which I find a bit sad because it gave his face a lot of personality. She also went a bit heavy on the trimming around the nose and it looks like my dog now has a big upper black lip.

First pic is after today's trim, the 2nd is 6 weeks prior. You can see the long whiskers and the white fur all around his nose.

Will 5he whiskers grow back as long? And is there any way to properly trim a Coton without having to cut them? Seems like it might be pretty difficult to do.

As for the lip, I hope the little white fur under his nose will grow back quickly. Will it?

Separation anxiety - have I messed up?

I have a 4 months old Coton de Tuléar puppy that we got at 9 weeks old.Following our breeder's advice, he sleeps in his crate by our bedside - never was a problem, he sleeps well (but wakes up a tad early for my taste). Since this is going well, I don't want to mess this part up.

What doesn't work is leaving him alone for pretty much any period of time. He has a small playpen in the living room, with lots of toys, a bed and water. The door is always open and he comes and go in it as he pleases. No worries there. When we all leave the house, we put him in the pen, almost always with a high value treat, and close the door. We got a camera to check him, and he pants, with some slight barking, pretty much all the time we are gone. He refuses to eat his treats until we come back.

We tried to gradually increase alone time in the pen, but it has always been distressing for him, however how long. Family life and associated obligations needed us to leave him alone about 60-90 minutes a few times in the last month. I'm worried we messed up by going too long, too fast, even if we didint have much choice. He's very clingy and I don't think he actually gets better at being alone.

Any advice?

So my puppy is now 11 weeks old. He sleeps in his crate, by my bed and doesn't complain when we put him in it. The issue we have is that he falls asleep on the floor at 8-9 pm, a time at which we are definitely oy ready to go to bed (just put my son to bed, need to do house chores and decompress a little). By 10:30,when I want to go to bed, I try to pick him up and put him in his crate. It worked for a while, but now he takes FOREVER to get back to sleep. Then he wakes up with the sun, which is way too early for me 😂

I'd like to gradually shift his sleep schedule so it aligns better with our family life. Should I try to keep him up and more active during the evening, so he sleeps better and longer?
