My thoughts about why Donghua is struggling to grow in the west in popularity
I have been wondering why Donghua has been struggling abroad so much and I got a few theories. Feel free to debunk me, as I am open to criticism.
Chinese companies and crunchyroll fail to put in enough advertisements to build up the hype.
Many Chinese anime are considered low quality or weird visually due to the use of 3d models for characters and backgrounds. It makes it feel cheap.
Chinese companies don't invest enough into foreign audiences, leading to poor voice acting and lack of quality English/Japanese dubs.
China is very strict with IPs, making it hard to make edits and show them on social media platforms. This suppresses organic advertisement, and prevents big YouTubers from doing reaction videos to the content.
Alot of projects tend to lean to less serious art style and writing style for some reason, preferring more chibi Vs more realistic art styles like Release that Witch. This makes it hard for them to differentiate themselves from Japanese anime that saturated this artstyle market already and people would prefer familiar voiceover and setting over something new like Donghua.
Perhaps there are some things I missed or misinterpreted, please let me know your opinion! (I Apologise in advance if I had offended anyone)
