Case 346: Megumi Yokota, pronunciation issues from host

I’m a Japanese speaker, and although this episode was an absolute cracker in terms of writing and storyline, I kept getting pulled out of it because of how egregiously bad the host’s pronunciation of proper names was. He butchered all of the Japanese place names as well as the Yokota family’s names and the names of most of the other victims (and, randomly, the country of Myanmar) which to me felt disrespectful to the people affected. Even if you mess up the pronunciation of a place, at least learn how to say victims’ names correctly.

It is also really not difficult to look up correct pronunciations in 2026 even if you don’t have a speaker of the relevant language on hand. You can set Google Translate to English -> target language, type the relevant place or person’s name, and click the audio button and it’ll read it out with the correct pronunciation.

GL lockers broken into

We left our stuff in the locker by Ranch entrance (not by choice) when the venue was evacuated and we were ushered out through Sherwood exit. Went back just now on the way out after the closers finished and we found that the lock had been popped. The padlock was still locked, but the door to the locker was hanging open. Luckily all we had in there was old spare clothes and nothing was taken, but other people near us had had the same thing happen and all their merch and personal stuff stolen.

Security were not having people scan into GL when the storm hit so I assume an opportunistic thief/wook was the culprit.

What’s the point of a locker if it’s not secure? HQ, get better, more secure lockers that can’t be popped with a butter knife next time.

Help, Zenmarket discarded my expensive item

UPDATE: Zenmarket support responded to me during the night last night and as a “one time exception” they RESTORED MY ITEM 🎉🎉🎉 I’m just lucky I caught it so soon after the discard notification I think so it hadn’t actually been discarded from the warehouse yet. I am so happy and grateful that support responded and acted so quickly, have queued my parcel to be shipped already, and will know in future to ship stuff the week I buy it. Thank you to everyone who commented in a supportive fashion and thank you Zenmarket for helping me out when I was a moron

Yes I’m an idiot. For context I have ADHD.

I was out of the country for over 2 months and totally forgot I had bought an expensive ring via Zenmarket on yahoo auctions and was planning to build a larger package to ship it. I didn’t receive any email notifications or reminders from them about the storage expiring (I don’t know if typically you do but I definitely did not).

Basically I just suddenly remembered it today, thought “oh shit” and logged in to see that the 90 day storage limit had expired literally yesterday (less than 24 hours ago).

Can I do anything or am I fucked? I just messaged support begging/explaining but is there anything else I can do? Has anyone had luck recovering a discarded item when it’s within 24 hours of the deadline expiring? Please help, I’m so angry at myself 😭

Passport control/duty free & customs/LIS airport update June 11 2026

Arrived 7:20am for a 10:40am departure to the USA. There was no wait at passport control and almost all of the e-gates were working.

Our taxi driver to the airport, who seemed very well-informed, told us that the new system has been put on hold as of a few days ago due to the chaos that was caused, so according to him the root cause of the delays is no longer a factor. So they don’t predict the same massive delays to happen again.

What I will say though is that there was a LONG line at customs post-security for tax-free shopping validation. If possible, do the “tax free shopping in your checked bag” option (you have to go and get your bag tagged first by your airline, then bring it to the customs area pre-security). The queue there was maybe 4 people instead of 25 on the other side.

You MUST get a customs stamp or have your form validated by one of the self-serve machines in order to get the refund. The machines were acting up (surprise surprise) but if it fails to validate and sends you to a manual customs inspection, TRY AGAIN. The passport read function on the machines is somewhat iffy but you can avoid standing in the giant queue if you can get it to recognise your passport. Give it multiple tries before giving up. I wish we had known this as it would have saved us 45 minutes of standing in a queue only to be told this by the sole customs official on duty.

Also, there is a tax refund desk at the Cambiar/Exchange counter AFTER passport control. I couldn’t find any reliable info about whether this existed but yes, it does: it’s a yellow desk with a Western Union sign. Looks a bit shady perhaps but it’s completely legit.

So in total there are 3 places to get your tax refund: before security, after security and after passport control at the exchange desk, but **you must get the customs validation either before security or right after security**.

I wish I had had this info this morning, would have saved us a ton of time and stress, so hopefully this helps someone else. Safe travels!
