GT Test Drive

Test drove a Grand Touring on Tuesday. I'm in love. A Gravity would be more suited for my family's needs, but they're still out of my budget. Amazing vehicles.

Landlord's Revenge On Me

My family has been renting a house since July 2024. We rented it through a property management company. About a year ago the only licensed broker, and the owner of the company, died, so the house owner took over everything. We met, signed a new lease, and talked about what needed done. We became friends and we'd work on some house projects together. In return, he'd discount rent for that month.

He's an airline captain. He was out for work, due to awaiting medical reviews. For April Fool's, I thought it would be funny to tell him we were short on rent, totally forgetting that he was short on money, himself.

He texts me back, tells me he understands, and to get him the balance ASAP. I remembered he was out of work so I quickly text him that it was an April Fool's prank, and that we have all the money and I was sending it that day, and that I forgot about his financial situation. He texted back saying he thought it was funny, after the fact, but payback would be coming.

Mid-April I tell him we are going on a cruise out of California in a few days. He said he'd drive by the house when he has a chance, just to check on it. On April 19th, we drive from Denver to Albuquerque, take Amtrak to LA. We are riding through San Bernardino, excited for our vacation, when I get a text from him.

He drove by the house. Someone had jacked up the garage door enough to crawl under, and thinks someone may still be inside. He was waiting for the police to show up.

I freak out, tell my wife, then I don't hear from him for 30 minutes. All I could think about was the stolen electronics, my mountain bikes, my tools, keys for my truck that was parked there.

I open the Ring app and all I see is the neighbor kid that came over looking to play with my son. Weird. It would show activity by the garage door.

Then, my wife says, remember you pranked him about rent? I didn't want to believe it. Then, a short while later he texts me saying, "payback is a bitch."

I deserved it.

Winch Switching. Are Diodes Needed To Prevent Reverse Polarity?

Hi. I'm building a camper and have a wall that folds down to become a deck. I'm using a 12V ATV winch.

The winch is controlled by a reversing relay which is triggered by two switches in parallel. One is a DPDT up/center-off/down rocker switch. The other is a wireless remote switch with up/center-off/down key fob switch.

Do I need to worry about backfeeding power to one switch while the other is being triggered?

A buddy on FB suggested another DPDT switch to switch between the DPDT up/down switch and the wireless fob switch. Wouldn't a diode be easier? I have some 60V/5A diodes from another project.

Edit: mods made me resubmit the post and forgot to attach the drawing of the circuit but I'm sure most of you understand.

Thanks

Claim Payout on Totaled, Leased VW

My wife and I leased a 2022 VW Taos in 2022 through VW Credit. During this time we had made a claim with Progressive for hail damage. Progressive sent a check made out to us and Tynan's VW, who we were planning to do the repairs through.

My wife was hit by another driver and the car was totaled. We didn't cash the check and we leased a 2024 Tiguan to replace it.

A few days ago Progressive sent us an email saying the check was not cashed. They can send a new check made out to only us if we can provide them with a copy of the Lien Release.

VW Credit says we can send them $25.00 and they will get a copy of the title.

Doesn't VW Credit hold the title even if the car has been totaled?

Is this scenario even possible or am I SOL?

Progress Of My DIY Camper

Hi. I'm in the process of building a truck camper. This is on a 2024.Chevy 4500 LCF 4x2, which is a Chevy-badged Isuzu NPR-HD. It has a GM 6.6L V8 gas, 6-speed transmission, and a 14500# GVWR. The truck without bed, with fuel, me, my son, toolbox, is 6980#. The bed is 740# as it sits now, without the decking. Truck and bed weighs 7720#. That leaves me with 6780#.

My grand plans is a 4x4 swap with F550 axles, and a long-arm air-ride suspension.

I built the front bumper, it just needs paint. The bed is 14'6" (174") long x 6'8" (80") wide. It needs a deck and paint. I'm planning on a modular, two-camper box system. This first one is 6'8" (80") long and 6'8" (80") wide, 8'4" (100") tall, with a 4'8" (56") cabover. With only the first box on I still have a 6'8" (80") wide x 7'4" (88") bed deck.

The passenger-side wall folds down to become a porch via an ATV winch and synthetic line. Three-quarters of the rear wall folds up to become an awning. This is hand-openee as of now. This is also where the rear-entry door is. It is accessed from the bed. This folding section is removed when adding the second box. The second box will have a side-entry door.

The sides of the bed are 4" x 1.5" channel. I notched the top flange and welded in four mounts with four 1.5" long x 1/2" diameter grade 8 bolts.

The last photo is a rendering a guy on FB did. It helps visualize it.

Saw this cute little thing in Ensenada, Mexico. The driver didn't speak English. Another guy with the tour company said it was an Isuzu. Said "GENESIS" on the rear. I can't figure out what that make and model is.
