Canon MV-600i Questions and help transferring to PC

Hey all, my grandfather recently gave me his old Canon MV600i miniDV camcorder. I can't find much info on the model, aside from the user manual it came with and that it was introduced in 2003. It (suprisingly) has a still working li-ion battery. I have a DSLR but have never really gotten into camcorders. Does anyone know if this is a good model of camcorder, and any problems it may have?

The one problem I've noticed is that when it is turned on cold, the image produces a faint, stretched image, but after a while it fixes itself. Looks to me like a capacitor problem but I don't really know how I'd go about fixing that.

There's a 60 min tape inside that has some old videos that I want to transfer to my computer. Does anybody know how I might go about that? I read the manual, and it looks like I need a MiniDV FireWire socket to USB adaptor, if that exists? The other questions is finding software I could use- coming from 2003 the software is heinously outdated. If anyone knows of any modern software I could use to get it to work, it would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance 🙏

New to Saturn - Recommendations and advice?

Hey all, I recently got this Sega Saturn v2 from Japan, and I also got a saroo cart with it. I never had one growing up, so its been a blast playing it. However, I have already run out of games, as the only 3 I have played and completed are Daytona, Sega Rally, and OutRun, and I've already completed them. Can anybody give me any good game suggestions? I want to try Virtua Fighter 2 and other fighters, but my only experience in that genre is Smash bros. I'm also not very well versed in the world of RPGs, I've only played pokemon and a tiny bit of ff7.

Also, I opened the model for cleaning, and discovered mine is a late VA-15 revision. From some stuff online, apparently the late ones have problems with some games? Apparently OutRun is one of them, but I couldn't notice anything wrong with it. Does anybody know what is wrong with the late models?

(Starfox SNES) How on earth did you guys beat this game?!

Hey all, so I never had Starfox growing up but I always thought it looked sick, and a sort of magnum opus for SNES graphics along with DKC And Mario world 2.

Nowadays, I've got a flash cart and decided to try it out. However, I've found the game to be completely insufferable. I've just BARELY been able to make it past the first boss on Corneria, let alone complete the game, even on the easiest path.

I don't even find the frame rate that annoying, but it's more that I can't figure out where I'm aiming due to a lack of recticle, and it feels like I'm getting hit by everything even though it looks like I'm avoiding them. The lack of game saves, and the fact your teammates can permanently die suck too .Trying Starfox 64, I realised it's so much better. I really want to love this game, but its whooping my ass and I'm not enjoying playing it.

Does anyone have any tips to help me play better? I don't have a good knowledge on how the game works.

Just got a mega drive - Questions, and confused about game cartridge?

Hey all, I recently got a boxed mega drive for (I think) a steal? Anyway, my friend modded it for 60hz, and I've ordered one of those everdrive x5 flashcarts. I never had a mega drive growing up, and aside from a few notable titles (Sonics, OutRun)

I have no idea what games are good or not. Does anybody have any suggestions for games I could get for my everdrive, as well as if any of my current games are good?

It came with some games, and I've tried a few so far. Collums has been fun, and I've been getting my ass whooped by the sonic 2 final boss, but when I tried Altered Beast it started playing an entirely different game- Super HQ by Taito? And it seems to be a Japanese copy of the game as the dialogue is in Japanese, although the menus are in english.

Because it's presumably a Japanese copy, how is it running on my Australian mega drive? I think they're region locked, and it was running on it before I got my 60hz mod done. It didn't have any evidence of ever being modded or even opened whatsoever when me and my friend did the 60hz mod, so does anybody have an idea about why it is working?

How to get rid of mould on the inside of a camera lens

Hey all, I've got this Nikon 18-200mm lens. It's got mould on it and I don't know how to get rid of it. It looks like it's on one of the outer layers of the lens glass and my dad says it should be unscrewable, but I don't have a tool for it. Any other way I can get rid of it?

Help - N64 No longer powering on with summercart

Hey all, I've had this Japanese n64 for a while now and it's been working fine. I have a summercart 64 and it uses an aftermarket psu, and an official expansion pak.

Recently, it has basically stopped working. The cart won't boot and the N64 has a blank screen. Since it's a Japanese n64, the only other cartridge that works with it is the summercart, as I only have other PAL copy games which get locked out.

I've tried cleaning all the ports with methylated spirits (cartridge, video, expansion pak), checked the inside of the PSU which seems to have no visible damage, tested the summercart (all tests passed), swapped to a sandisk 128gb card, but still nothing.

It seems to display a faint image in composite (above image) but little more, and it goes away after a little bit. Once the light on the cartridge started blinking red, but it hasn't happened again.

Does anyone know what could be the problem and how it could be fixed?
