Are there any other artists/illustrators out there who are messy personally but make tidy looking art? I always thought of art as a window into a person's point of view and sometimes personality so I find it to be odd that I'm drawn to creating clean and minimalist pages when my living spaces are unkempt but not unhygenic....I'm curious if anyone else finds that the work that they make sort of differs from their personality or brings a different side of it to light?

I was just curious if anyone else has chosen to pursue this route because of a chronic illness limiting your ability to work regularly?

It's been a challenge to find sustainable work and I have always wanted to make children's picture books, so here we are!

I'm just interested in hearing about how things are going if you are in a similar situation.

This kind of just broke my heart but I saw my aunt while I was picking up a doordash order at a grocery store. I told the deli clerk that I was picking up a doordash order while my aunt was clearly in earshot. I made several attempts to say hi to my aunt and she would look past me intentionally each time.. I think she didn't want to be associated with a doordasher.

It is making me really sad. My dad loses hundreds of dollars a month to drive her to work every day for $15, when he used to make much more money dashing breakfast and early lunch. It doesn't seem right to act like this.

Where do you go to answer your copyright questions? How do you find out if an image or word would violate copyright in a self published book? Especially for KDP and Ingram Spark. For example if I draw games and toys in the book I am illustrating do they have to be 100% generic/a new invention, or will I not get a copyright strike if on one page the characters are playing a game that looks quite a bit like Sorry, or drawing on an etch a sketch? Or can they be drawing on an etch a sketch like toy, but without the brand name on it?

Is there a way to order an author proof without an ISBN with either Ingram Spark or KDP? I don't have the money for an ISBN right now but I would like to see how the book looks so I can continue editing if necessary.

If you published a picture book with KDP are you happy with that choice or do you wish you would have pursued the traditional publishing route? I just finished my first children's picture book (hand drawn and manually digitally tinted images, wrote the story myself) and had been intending to self-publish the whole time, but now feel some hesitation for some reason. Just curious to hear folks experiences.

Hello! I hope this is the right place to ask this. I live in the US and we have a lovely Bosnian neighbor who has given us big bags of veggies from her garden this year, multiple times. It is so appreciated and I think it's so kind. The only thing that I have been able to grow in my garden this year that looks nice are pumpkins, so I was thinking of giving her a pumpkin sort of as a thank you, but my mom said no don't do that. That she would probably only want something edible, not a decorative pumpkin. Would it be inappropriate to give her a pumpkin in return?

I'm at a loss for an appropriate way to show appreciation and I'm looking for any ideas. I just don't want to be someone who takes and takes from this kind neighbor and never gives anything back, I think it's not right. But I don't know what to do.

Are there any St. Louis birthday freebies that don't require a prior sign up or purchase? Today is my birthday and the only thing I look forward to is a free Starbucks drink on my birthday but since I didn't make a qualifying purchase over the past year I can't get one.
I'm sad so I was hoping to find something else free instead.

I am chronically ill and cant work more than a few hours here and there, I don't have any friends, the only thing that brought me joy on my birthday was getting a free starbucks drink and today I see that I would have had to make a star qualifying purchase in order to get the drink. I have made a few purchases this year but not with my rewards card. I'm just so sad.

My ferritin is at 6 and I find that exercise makes my heart rate much higher than before and makes me feel terrible. I'm thinking I'm going to have to switch to gentle yoga until this gets better. I'm curious about others experiences.

I just want to say I'm thinking of everyone in the midwest (and elsewhere) who are going to be coping with this huge increase in temperature this next week. I hope your coping mechanisms work beautifully and we all make it through. September is two (hopefully short) months away, and I hope it is a mild one.
