Nueva línea de Tucson (5ta Gen)

En mi opinión se ve mucho mejor que la 4ta generación. Trae un nuevo estilo de diseño y tecnología actualizada. Que opinan?

Presenting the all-new Plasma TV Database

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, we’ve been hard at work building out a comprehensive, central resource dedicated entirely to Plasma display technology: The Plasma TV Database.

Whether you're trying to identify a specific model revision, compare specs between models, check input capabilities, or figure out what display generation a TV belongs to, this database was built to be the go-to resource for our community.

There, you can find specs, panel generations, and full model lines across major manufacturers, as well as helpful information whether you're shopping the local used market or dialing in your current display settings.

You can access the database directly via the community sidebar (or by clicking ‘See more’ on the subreddit’s front page on mobile), or by visiting plasmatvdatabase.com.

This is a living project built for the community, by the community. If you notice missing specs, have documented service manual details, or spot anything that needs correction, you can submit information using the ‘Submit a TV’ button on the site’s top bar.

Thank you all for being part of keeping PDP display technology alive and documented!

TC-P50ST30X

The second 1080p model I’ve seen listed for sale in my country. The first one was my Samsung F5000.

And paid the equivalent of $40 for it. Though, that’s because it has a bit of an issue. It’ll work for a few hours and then shut off and refuse to turn back on until it has cooled back down. Problem which I’m investigating.

For the time being, this thing in a lit room looks as good as the F5000 does in a dark room.

Introducing r/PlasmaTVMarketplace: Our Dedicated Space for Buying, Selling, and Trading

Hello everyone,

Over the past few months, we’ve seen a substantial increase in posts from members looking to buy, sell, trade, or give away Plasma sets, parts, and accessories. While it’s awesome to see these displays being rescued and kept alive, marketplace posts tend to crowd out technical discussions, repairs, and setup showcases.

To keep the main feed organized and give transactions a dedicated home, we are launching r/PlasmaTVMarketplace. This new subreddit has been in the works for months now, to ensure a safe and smooth experience for everyone.

Going forward, all buying, selling, trading, or giveaway listings must be posted on r/PlasmaTVMarketplace. We will soon begin redirecting commercial posts from r/PlasmaTV over to the new subreddit.

Thank you for helping us keep this community growing and structured.

Revelaron el nuevo Elantra/Avante.

Sinceramente me gusta bastante. Ojalá lo trajeran de nuevo al país. Que opinan?

Hello, 1080p Plasma.

People in my country (Costa Rica) generally don’t like to spend a lot of money on things. When it comes to TVs, most people just go to the nearest Walmart and pick whatever happens to be the cheapest model in the size they want. Back when Plasmas were still being produced, this typically meant buying 720p-class sets. As a result, models like the Panasonic C1, C2, and X3, or the Samsung F4500, are incredibly common here.

That's exactly what my grandfather did when he bought a Panasonic TC-P50C2X brand new. I grew up with that TV, and it’s still with me all these years later.

Several weeks ago, I decided to start looking for a 1080p set. However, those four 720p-class models I mentioned are pretty much the only ones available on the used market. Everything else is a rare oddity that pops up and disappears quickly (or turns out to be a dead listing). While searching, I actually had the opportunity to buy two of those oddities: a Panasonic TC-P42XT50X and a Philips 42FD9953/17. Those two have their own stories, which I won't dive into right now, but still, no 1080p sets were popping up.

That is, until two days ago, when one finally did: a Samsung PN60F5000AF. The very next morning, I was at the seller's house loading it up. I paid the equivalent of $270 for it. While that might seem like a lot to some, in a market where a Panasonic X3 goes for around $230, I’m pretty happy with the deal.

Having mostly used 42”, 43”, and 50” sets in my life, this is the largest TV I’ve ever owned. It’s also plenty bright (the picture attached was taken at 70% cell light). The colors are fantastic, too. My only minor complaint is the black levels, which are actually slightly worse than my Panasonic C2, but it still blows any LCD I’ve ever used completely out of the water. It has officially earned a permanent spot in my room.

For now, my collection consists of these four sets. I might grab another one if I ever get the chance to upgrade this F5000, but for the time being, I’m pretty well covered.

Today I learned that Samsung made an H series EDTV.

This popped up today on my FBM feed. A Samsung PN43H4000AH. An “emerging market” special, ultra-budget set released in 2014, the final year of Plasma mass-production. Despite being such a late model, in order to achieve the ~$350-400 MSRP, it uses an 852x480 EDTV panel. Might be the very last model to feature one.

There’s apparently also a 51” version of this H4000, which uses a 1024x768 “HD Ready” panel, as well as a series of LED-LCD sets under the same name that were sold alongside these Plasmas.

I’m not getting this one for the time being. It’s being sold as “for parts” for $50 (alleged Y sustain board failure), which seems like a bit much to me. But the existence of such a late-model EDTV set is fascinating.

Some TC-P50C2X appreciation.

People often forget how good a 720p-class Plasma looks from a normal viewing distance. You don’t need to track down a flagship model and/or pay a premium for it to get that gorgeous Plasma experience.

This is 50% brightness. Who needs HDR?

By the way, I’m still learning how to shoot these things properly, if you have any suggestions please let me know!

Project XT50X.

Got this for the equivalent of ~$20 yesterday, as “for parts”.

A Panasonic TC-P42XT50X. The only 720p-class 3D set Panasonic ever made.

My intention is to get it running.
