Why is it so hard to criticize Islam?

Why is it so hard to criticize Islam?

I am an apostate from Catholicism, living in France, who lived through the vote on the law allowing same-sex marriage. I left the Church during that period, after looking into Catholicism through its texts and realizing that the religion was deeply homophobic. It was also around then that conversion therapies were banned by Europe.

It was through those issues that I was drawn into debates about Islam, and I noticed how cold Muslims were about the suicides of gay people, whereas Catholics tended more to dodge the subject, saying they condemned the act, or that it was a trial, or other nonsense of that kind.

Little by little I realized that criticizing Islam is taboo. Even among non-Muslims. Paradoxically, that is what pushed me to take an interest in Islam more and more. As the Japanese say: the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

I currently follow a collective of influencers who are apostates from Islam. French speakers may recognize Jack le Fou.

I have to admit this is something I struggle to understand: that we are not allowed to criticize Islam, and that people do not realize they are defending a totalitarian ideology.

I know the reason that is usually given. We do not criticize Islam because it plays into the hands of the far right. But in that case, why does the left not criticize Islam, so as to cut the ground from under the right-wingers? In fact it is a circular argument, because anyone who dares to criticize Islam is labeled far right, and therefore, since everyone who criticizes Islam is labeled far right, people conclude that only right-wingers criticize Islam.

And I cannot understand how someone can be on the left and think it is a good thing not to criticize an ideology like that. I grew up in France, and my country has a history of resistance, and of fighting for its emancipation from the Church. For me, keeping my mouth shut about an ideology like this is the worst insult I could offer my ancestors.

I want to understand how I build a balanced social life when you’re introverted and all that?

I need help with:

I’ll admit it’s a problem I don’t have a solution for. I know that to get into a relationship you first need a fulfilling social life and a certain ease with words, but how do you do that when you’re not naturally good at it and not naturally interested in that?

I've tried:

I regularly go on a Discord server for my town, to have some kind of social life, but I struggle to motivate myself to actually do social activity. When I get home from work, socializing is the last thing I feel like doing. And the worst part is I mostly keep seeing the same faces: mostly men, and often women who are already taken. Basically, I feel like I’m stuck in a bottleneck.

I've already tried date app, it’s boxed garbage. I’d like to try bars to meet women, but I have no game, and I feel like the slightest interaction with a female stranger could end with me being accused of harassment.

I'm willing to try:

Whatever you suggest, I’m open to ideas. 😆

What am I supposed to reply to that?

I don’t want to sound condescending, but I get the impression that a lot of anti-AI people treat computing like some kind of magic and developers like wizards. What I’m saying isn’t some niche topic. I’m a developer, but I don’t work in AI. I don’t see what’s so hard to understand: you can create a model with a program, and it isn’t a developer who wrote the model by hand, line by line.

Does anyone know who created this art?

I found this piece online and noticed that it's been shared widely, but I can't find its original creator.

Any characters suggestions for MTG Expedition 60 cards?

Hello <3
I'm looking for ideas. I love designing MTG cards. And I want to create a card set for the famous Expedition 60. Since there aren't any images of them in the game, I thought it might be fun to use well-known characters from the internet, manga, or video games. Like Akuma from Street Fighter, Maki from Jujutsu Kaisen, or Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear.

Do you have any ideas for muscular, powerful characters you’d like to see as Expedition 60?

Do we no longer talk about “gender identity” and “biological sex”?

Is it just me, or has there been a shift in how trans activists define gender?

I remember trans activists who used to distinguish between biological sex and gender identity.

Personally, that made sense to me. It allowed trans people to have their own identity without denying the biological aspect.

But in a lot of recent debates I’ve seen, I rarely see this distinction being made. I even get the impression that there’s a denial of biological reality. For exemple, in sports competitions, a man who posed as a trans person was able to compete against women to prove that there were no regulations in place.

Avi Silverberg, for those who want the name. For those who don’t know him, we’re talking about a man who isn’t trans, who identified as trans during the competition, and who admits to having done so solely for the sake of the competition.

This is something I find hard to understand: is this widespread within the trans community, or is it more of an elite delusion that’s sabotaging the LGBT+ movement?

Where can I talk about my struggles as a single, reclusive man?

I feel like I don’t belong in any community. I have a really hard time finding a soulmate. But I don’t want to fall into self-pity by telling myself it’s women’s fault, and joining incel groups wouldn’t help me at all. I hate people who look for scapegoats to avoid facing their own problems.

I know full well that I’m someone with social anxiety, that I’m an introvert, and a diagnosis of autism that explains the difficulties I face. Obviously hard to find someone if you don’t know many people to begin with.

I tried sharing my problems on Incelsexit, but my experience there was pretty negative. I came across a bunch of posts telling me that I should just stay alone if I don’t like socializing. But WTF. Just because I’m an introvert doesn’t mean I like being alone.

And that’s not all, I feel like, as a man, it’s off-limits to talk about this kind of problem. Whether you’re on one side of the political spectrum or the other.

When we try to talk to people who lean toward feminism, we often get responses like “women have it worse.” And when we talk to people on the right, they tell us we’re weak men.

I just want to talk about my problems without having to justify myself. Meet people who face the same struggles as I do and share how we manage to overcome them. Why is it that as a man, I always have to suffer alone and in silence?

I know I'm weak and that I'll probably never have a rich social life, but I'm tired, I just want to be a better person.
