1000% hype. Nuclear is dying.

"Depressing how poor the media is at asking questions and reporting accurately. This has been reported as an Rolls Royce SMR order, which it clearly is a long way from being, no more than an expression of intent which history shows are worthless. But it has a site, it has government backing and I would guess a promise of cheap finance and a power purchase deal that means it isn't exposed to NordPool. But to complete 3 reactors by the mid 30s means it would have completed 3 before the first Rolls reactor is completed in the UK. This would put them in the Volvo position of being crash test dummies for the RR design."

Argentina's nuclear program director who pledged for the creation of small modular reactors to meet the energy demands of data centers and AI applications resigns amid corruption scandals.

What's funny is that Argentina’s dreams of producing its own SMR precede Milei: In 2014, the CNEA started construction on CAREM, a nuclear power reactor developed entirely in Argentina. But shortly after taking office in December 2023, Milei slashed funding for CNEA. Last year, construction on the CAREM project — which was about 85% complete — ground to a halt as about 470 workers were laid off.

So at the same time they stop the development of a SMR project, they promised to quickstart SMR's for "AI energy demand". SMR's for Argentina: No no. SMR's for silicon valley: Hell yeah!

Imagine being an nuclear engineer working in a novel nuclear project for 20 years, 20 years..It's 85% done. And then one day some guy comes and tells you "pack it up, we are shutting it down" and then turns around and says "And now we'll start a NEW project, to power the AI revolution". Like why did you shut down the original project in the first place. Oh, I know: You want to do America's design. Argentina=bad, America=good.

Congratulations dude you ruined a project 20 years in the making and 600 million dollars in, because you put all your eggs in the AI basket. What could go wrong?
