Any games you would call a true Soulslike x Zeldalike?

Apologies for not the most original question but I'm trying to find a certain sorta game. Basically I'm playing Elden Ring atm (which is awesome and fucked up), and been thinking about how for all that I love about it, I would also love down the line to play a game with a few more zeldalike qualities.

In my mind this means bringing together the Soulslike seamlessness and fluidity of combat, brutal difficulty, and twisted humor, but also incorporates from Zelda more things like puzzles and a more "alive world". Like basically I'd love to play a game somewhere that the apocalypse hasn't already happened so I could like visit towns and interact with more people of the world instead of the few who are lingered in between everyone who wants to kill me.

Fwiw BOTW would be the answer to this except that I find the mechanics/combat so clunky and stop start that especially after how clean Elden Ring is BOTW is effectively unplayable for me.

Thanks y'all.

Dang y'all are awesome for this.

Games like Super Paper Mario?

Sorry to ask yet another "games like?" question but i searched and most questions have (understandably) been about the first 2. But I LOVE SPM and these days am more into more "active" combat than a turn based battle system. So I was wondering if there's and PMlikes out there that pull of the vibe, quality of writing/story, all the silliness and the seriousness, etc. with a combat more like SPM. I guess something engaged but not super complicated.

One almost example i'll give is Cult of the Lamb, which is great in terms of writing, art, mood, story, etc. and has the kind of battle mechanics I am thinking about, but I'm just not a big fan of roguelikes or management sims so it's not for me even if still a very good game.

Thanks!

What are y'alls' favorite hard original story romhacks while i wait for the new update?

Heyo,

was playing a bit of rad red but am early on in game so decided i might wait and restart once the new update comes out. In the meanwhile, I wanted to play an original story romhack and would love one that has some of the difficulty & QoL that makes RadRed dope (ie. real hard, min grinding or something like it, dexnav, etc.)

Which one's do you all love? Thanks so much!

How important are recs from writers/writing teachers? And does prior workshop experience matter?

Hi,

Planning to apply for some mfa programs this cycle and trying to sort out recs. The big thing is that I don't really have much from writers who are "teachers" per se. I might be able to get letters from editors I've had but nobody who I've worked with in a workshop context or anything like that...largely because I've not done a workshop since an undergrad intro course ages upon ages ago?

My question is whether anyone will care about any of that? Should I try to do a more formalized workshop or something ahead of time and try to get a rec or is that whatever? There are some options available to me and I'm not opposed to doing a workshop (I mean, I am applying to mfa programs), but...well...they are all kinda expensive and half the appeal of MFA workshops to me is not paying for them (I'm only applying to funded programs).

Thanks!

How do I get the little wifi icon back?

Sorry for the stupidest question imaginable, I, using Linux Mint on a Lenovo Thinkpad, accidentally removed the little wifi icon that was on the bottom right side of my desktop panel and I've been searching network, applets, settings, everything and can't find where to get it back...how do I get it back?

Thank you so much from a doofus <3

What other music y'all been loving this year?

So, i've been so outta new music this year. I loved ELUCID x Sebb Bash, love Fatboi x Child Actor, and as I'm getting hype for OME x Kenny and DJ Haram x Sha Ray it hit me i've basically only been listening to backwoodz shit.

So like, woods/backwoodz fans, what else have you been into from this year. Could be hip hop, but also whatever else? Thanks homies

Was writing absolutely absent from the Greek world in what gets called the Greek Dark Ages (~1100-900 BC)?

I know there was a disappearance of Linear B after the Bronze Age Collapse, but the idea that a place that once had writing and was interconnected to a world that had writing would be completely unfamiliar to writing intuitively feels wrong.

Thanks!

I am just barely at the level of being able to slowly work through the Aeneid. Gonna really take my time with it, just a few lines a day, check it against the english, hopefully get better and better along the way. Any advice for that? Of course I've done prior reading of both poetry and prose but this feels like a different adventure altogether. Gratias vobis ago!

Heyo homies I've been wanting to try pm Dark Star for a while now and am trying to decide if I want to use my phone or steam deck (obviously it would be better on the latter but I'd love the flexibility of just having it on phone).

Anyone have thoughts on if any android phone emulators can handle it (N64 games in general) well? Never played anything other than Gameboy type emulation on there.

Thanks so much! Paper Mario is dope isn't it?
