So, just finished Godblight. I understand it came out a bit ago. Are all the recent lore developments still pointing to Big E being a more active force in the Galaxy again?

Haven’t read anything more recent nor any of the edition books / campaigns (newbie here, dark imperium was my first set of novels).

I got into 40k by watching 30+ arbiter ian and lutein videos as podcasts basically. My understand was emps was a husk on a throne who only did minor stuff when he could.

Well, those who have read the dark imperium know that’s probably no longer an accurate assessment. The emperor possessing Gman, Kaylia and Mathieu the saints, it seems like this novel set the stage for his more active return in the affairs of the empire. As it states in the book, the chaos powers opening of the rift also opened the door for the emperor‘s increased influence once more.

I have a vague notion from other reddit threads that godblight is highly controversial. I’m not asking for an opinion on novel, just wanted to a few questions and read the discussions:

  1. Is this still the path GW is taking? For Big E to be a lot more active than a dead corpse

and

  1. I think from the novel it’s apparent emps in the throne room might be a little distinct from emps in the warp. What are the leading theories for what emps in the warp is exactly? Is he all the shamans working individually for the greater purpose of the their once unified intelligence? Is the unified intelligence the force or all his past lives?

It’s crazy how they kill the latest game every year before the newest release

The mammoth is currently soft locked, unless you have 25 bucks to drop on that bundle in the store…..the game revolves around two guns, which if you don’t use against a sweaty team can feel like you’re being punished….the matchmaking is still broken

Last year the armory locked before B07 released……

here’s a thread from a couple years ago with a complaint about the same shit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ModernWarfareIII/comments/1fyje7u/comment/lqum0l1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button

This could all just be a coincidence. The neglect could also just be a natural byproduct of priorities shifting internally to new game development. Or, it could be downright manipulation from activision. No matter what it is though it sucks for the playerbase.

Guess who showed out tonight for Detroit!

Big Sean lit up the house. Also The production was crazy compared to the crash tour! Such a good concert. I wish I would have booked seats closer up 😭. She still sang and danced her heart out, just like before.

COD has a Netflix strategy and it’s killing the community

Everyone at this point knows the problem with Netflix. You get super invested in a great show, only for them to cancel season 2, or season 3 and leave you hanging. It‘s gotten so bad that internal data shows people are no longer even turning up for season 2, and Netflix can no longer maintain subscribers for more than a few months.

Well, I was reading through some old posts when I come across this gem of a comment:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ModernWarfareIII/comments/1fyje7u/comment/lqum0l1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button

Sound familiar? B07 is currently plagued with horrible matchmaking and overpowered guns right before the new COD release.

With the last black ops 6, the armory mysteriously stopped working and they added an OP secondary shotgun right before the new release.

I never played MW3, but apparently from the comment this has been going on for a while?

People are going to buy the next game no matter what, but in the long term is this part of what’s killing the long-term player count and the community in general? People are going to catch on like they did with Netflix. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect long-term players not to get pissed off (I.e., killing the game before the next release). This short term strategy is really going to kill whatever faith in the brand people had left, just like with Netflix. Short term profits over long term stability

All the players on both the latest black ops subreddit's are saying the same thing (that they tank the game so people buy the next release).

I just came back to COD after a very long break. Back in the heyday when I played (WaW - MW3 2011) the games actually got way better as you played. The last map pack was always goated, like der riese in WaW or Moon in BO, the MP maps were always were great too. Honestly the game you left was generally the most balanced, best version of itself to date.

It’s sad and I think Call of Duty is really shooting themselves in the foot here. I still go back and play those old cods on my Xbox. If I know the game is going to be broke somehow at the end of its opening year….. I’m not sure how in good conscience I can buy another game.

Warhammer books that are good books period…..and are decent lore wise

Im trying to go more in depth with the lore beyond listening to lutein and arbiter Ian all the time.

Ive done a lot of research, and the best books that are well written, as well as provide some good in-universe storytelling appear to be:

  1. The infinite and the divine: consensus on reddit and forums says this is a step above typical warhammer writing, very funny and good if you like Necrons (which I do)

  2. Eisenhorn Omnibus: well written and interesting character dealing with the widest possible range of warhammer shit

  3. Nightlords omnibus: very detailed, very interesting, great characters

  4. First 3 Horus heresy books: if you are already familiar with 40k lore, everyone’s recommended starting point

so what do we think.

I’m not someone who’s going to be able to read every Horus heresy book, im trying to get the cream of the crop so to speak. I’ve got a book and video game backlog a mile long I’m working through, so unfortunately I’m going to have to pick and choose lol

Hot take: COD should just keep both game modes, omnimovement and classic. You can’t please everyone

You can’t please everybody. Another Redditor made a good comment on the other thread about how in regular Omni-movement mode the tactics players will bitch and moan, and in classic mode the movement demons will bitch and moan.

I open this subreddit everyday, and all I see is bitching and moaning and fights between movement demons and strategists / tactics people.

I make a post praising classic but clearly stating how I love Omni-movement in this subreddit and get downvoted to hell a month ago. I make basically the same post in the main COD subreddit the next day and receive flowers and praise. There is clearly two very vocal camps in this community and they hate each other.

I’m just here to have fun. I play both, every night. And every night I do good in both modes and get destroyed once or twice in both modes. And I still have fun.

whatever balances COD takes, one faction will inevitably bitch and moan.

Brothers, both modes are currently available. as someone who’s loves both, let us all eat this cake and do what we enjoy without tearing each other down.

I’m not one to complain much but the network issues have made this game almost unplayable for me. This isn’t acceptable

I shouldn’t have to use a swordfish just to get decent hitscan and win gunfights. My character is glitching forward or backwards 5-6 times a game, I lose gunfights when I pre-fire them and my last 2-3 bullets seemingly fail to connect.

I mean the difference between season 3 and 4 is just insane. I see this being mentioned anecdotally all over the sub and not a peep from the developer yet. I’ve checked settings on my PS5, 3rd party ping checkers the whole nine.

This needs to be fixed. I don’t want to play a choppy & glitchy match for 9 of the 10 games I’d play in a night. I mean I can literally play MW2 (2009) on my Xbox 360 right now and feel like my bullets are connecting better Jesus Christ

edit: I’m using Ethernet directly into my router, I have the best package from Xfinity, it isn’t a problem on other COD games or FPS titles, only B07

Packet loss, lagging, bursts for anyone else since update?

about once every two games or so I’ll lag a little bit or experience a packet burst.

This is since the update yesterday. I’ve only played classic mode, not sure if it could be related to that. posting to find out if it’s a known issue yet or if anyone else is experiencing it

[COD] Classic COD, Omni-movement, what’s “fair” and what’s best for the future of the franchise

Today I made a post on the B07 Reddit about how old COD movement feels more fair to me.

As I was getting downvoted to hell and reading people’s arguments (some of which were thought provoking and good btw), I came to the realization why I personally feel the old COD movement style is more fair, and maybe why the franchise should pivot in that direction again…..

I personally feel the skillset needed to be good in the old cods is available to many more players and uses more of your brain than the new system, which IMO is pretty fast twitch and more dependent on split second decision making.

The movement demons have reached a very high level of skill. That takes a lot of practice and mastery. Because of that, they can win fights they would have lost in the old movement system. That includes camping, but it also includes someone peeking mid behind cover, someone holding a headglitch, someone pre aiming a lane, etc depending on how goated they are

In the old system, those positions were more stable. The enemy’s movement was easier to read and easier to counter. In omni movement, a skilled player can break lines of sight, change direction quickly, or turn a losing push into a winnable fight.

I feel like the new system vs the old system is similar to blitz vs rapid chess. Both require skill. Both reward mastery. But the pace and reaction window change what feels fair depending on the style you prefer.

When you look at all of this together, I personally feel slowing things down is what makes the old system effectively more fair, as the largest amount of people are on the most even playing field. Modern day COD really is a skill issue, it’s just that the vast majority of people are gonna have a really hard time getting that gud lol. It feels like the gap between the top and the average players is most it’s ever been.

And so, what’s best for the future of the franchise? If you go by player numbers COD is declining. As someone who likes both styles (B07 is my favorite shooter in years) I think the classic movement style is fun enough while appealing to the most players, and could grow the game again.

Classic COD is a more fair game mode IMO

Big fan of the new classic mode. I still play the OG cods on my 360 once a month and it feels good to have this movement style back in a more modern title.

Gun fights feel significantly more fair, more based on positioning and tactics than fast twitch sliding and controller skills. No more seeing a movement demon in the open with the MPC wall jump then gank you from the side or something. He’s in the middle of the map with a sub-machine gun and no cover, it’s not gonna go over well.

I know my opinion will be controversial, but the return to the core makes you use more of your brain and less of your gun skills IMO. Have to have a good strategy when playing. I feel right at home. Big fan

Edit 6/5/26: I’ve read all the criticism of this take, some of which I believe is very valid. I once again clarify that I love both systems, that being said, still believe the old system is more fair because it much more accessible to the vast majority of players.

I’ve made a new post on the main sub-Reddit asking what direction the franchise should move forward taking into account the criticism I’ve read here:

Early Gen Z and blockbuster

I keep seeing this misconception that Gen Z didnt experience blockbuster

I was born in 1997 and spent my whole childhood going there. My blockbuster, in Brighton MI, closed in 2014! Blockbuster didn’t even file bankruptcy until 2010, when they still had thousands of stores in the US!!!

One of my favorite memories as a kid was going to rent the simpsons movie with my dad and my brother during a really bad thunderstorm and staying up late to watch it.

I got an Xbox 360 in 2009 when I was 12, that was when I first introduced to Netflix, and the selection sucked.

if you wanted to watch an obscure movie it was blockbuster or Comcast on demand for like 3.99 standard 4.99 HD

Let this misconception that Gen Z doesn’t know what blockbuster is die please. The older gen Z definitely grew up with them. I still remember renting GameCube games from them and my mom getting pissed off about the late fees
