How James Gunn Is Destroying The DCU, One C-List Superhero At A Time

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn's priority for the DCU is focusing on B- and C-list characters, and the filmmaker's approach to building a shared world runs the risk of derailing and destroying the DCU.

Gunn Fan thinks It is Matt Reeves fault that the DCU is failing!

Context this guy is butt hurt that Matt Reeves Batman is holding up the DCU Batman. And instead of propping up Matt Reeves universe he’s now wishing for it to be wiped out altogether

When an actor’s presence unintentionally derails the project

1.) Edward Norton - The Incredible Hulk

Perhaps the most famous and obvious one, Edward Norton was famously an issue on the set of 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” even making rewrites to the script himself. The disagreements between Norton’s camp and Marvel’s camp eventually led to his being replaced by Mark Ruffalo.

2.) Jensen Ackles - The Boys (particularly Season 5)

Jensen Ackles was a longtime collaborator with showrunner Eric Kripke in “Supernatural,” which in turn led to him getting the opportunity to audition - and eventually land the role - of Soldier Boy, which he did very well in in.

The issue is by Season 5, the show had fallen off from the previous years and with it ending and spinoffs and prequels (such as one featuring Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy), Season 5 suffered a lot. It quickly became the Soldier Boy show because “that’s what Clara would have wanted” until he just leaves in the penultimate episode and pretty much 80% of what his character actually did amounted to nothing.

So for fans who wanted to see Butcher vs Homelander duking it out, getting the show derailed for prequel bait starring Kripke’s favorite actor didn’t help…

3.) Rosamund Pike - Wheel of Time

When Amazon green lit a WoT tv show, Rosamund Pike eventually got the role of Moraine Damodred, the mentor and guiding character for the main character, Rand al’Thor. As a character, Moraine is anywhere from the most important secondary character to the most secondary main character. But with the exception of the prequel featuring her, she is not the main character.

Unfortunately, Rosamund Pike is an extremely famous actress and marketing toward the series focused on her as a result. I’m unsure if this was showrunner decision, an issue she played a role in or some combination, but the result was that Moraine >!a character who was in less than half the series!< is featured as the main character over the main character, which lead to a different product than the book.

Snyder hate is based off the theatrical cuts

People who hate the Snyderverse are judging the THEATRICAL cuts, not his directors cuts. Its painfully obvious. If they watched his true vision, like for BvS and Justice League, they would see most of their complaints are just wrong. Its not just longer, these editions are better, bigger, more packed full of his ideas, and theres more to enjoy.

When a tragic event is undercut by a later revelation, making it actually more tragic

-Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Chimera

One of the main motivations for the Elric boys is the unfortunate demise of Nina Tucker. The daughter of a minor Alchemist, Shou Tucker, Nina’s dad was an expert on chimera research and famously created an intelligent monkey-chimera, albeit one that was suicidal. With his Alchemist authentication coming up and no major headways, Shou creates a second intelligent chimera, this one dog based. It’s quickly realized by the Elrics that this is actually Nina and her dog fused together, and the revelation that Shou’s previous success was his wife who had gone missing shortly before his intelligent chimera was discovered.

Later in the series, the boys are confronted by the evil alchemist Kimbly, and his elite guards who are revealed to also be human chimeras. But unlike the Tucker Chimeras, who were deformed animals, these Chimeras can look human or switch to their beast characteristics with relative ease. The reality that human chimeras already existed, and were far superior to the two attempts created by Shou Tucker undercuts his desperation and makes what he did to his family - turning them into monstrosities for his own benefit - even more tragic, since the military had already perfected it.

The Homunculus Greed also had human chimeras.

-The Way of Kings: Death Rattles

Prior to every chapter in Stormlight Archives, Brandon Sanderson includes an epigraph to help further the plot. In some cases, these may be excerpts from the in-world book the volume is named after or letter exchanged between interplanetary figures.

The first case in the series, however, are cryptic messages. Always following the direct quote was the source of the quote, their occupation in life, how and when they died, and between when they said this and when they died, typically in the span of seconds. With no further context, one might conclude these to be taken in the wake of a battle or a plague or the sack of a city in a war.

However, near the end of the book, one of the characters, Szeth, is taken by his patron Taravangian to warded off and hidden area in a hospital, where Taravangian, the outward seeming well-mannered but incompetent king of a minor city-state known for its doctors, has taken both those close to death and undesirables that he can induce death into and has euthanized them in order to produce this cryptic statements. These statements are referred to as Death Rattles and are prophetic statements induced by dying in proximity of the Unmade, Moelach.

Rather than the Death Rattles being recorded in the aftermath of a tragedy, the sterility and pragmatism of the doctors killing patients in order to record future information makes the Death Rattles recorded throughout the book far more tragic in retrospect.

If they had popcorn buckets for ZSJL

What kind would you want? The Batmobile is definitely one and Darksieds head with light up red eyes would be another.

Zack Snyder has too many ideas for a normal runtime

I love how long Zack's movies are. Especially the Snyderverse, it feels like going through a whole comic series in a single movie, except it's more alive and grounded. He really explores consequences and lets badass moments breathe as long as they can, that's why the runtimes are so long.

He never rushes a moment. You always know when something is important in a Zack Snyder movie, and he has so many ideas that most things usually are. He gives you the time to appreciate the moments.

This IS Superman. Determined. Selfless. Humble. Hopeful. Inspiring

13 years later and I still believe this scene is one of the best representations of what Superman is. The resolve to be the glimmer of hope during the darkness of despair. When all hope is lost, the world is reliant on one man to persevere and show that not all is lost.

Ben embodies the physicality and indomitable spirit of Batman better than anyone else

I love Batman, and other actors do it well, but no one matches Ben. His Batman has been through so much, but he still fights so hard. Not to mention he's the most powerful Batman we've ever seen in live action. This warehouse fight scene really shows his skill and brutality. No other Batman could keep up with Superman like he did.

Perfect scene

I would explain why but this post keep disappearing after I wrote like 4-5 paragraphs

Say what you want about synders films but So many words spoken from darkside and superman just from one staredown and great characterization

It's the perfect ending but it's a good way to close off the trilogy with a complete superman

This scene feels a little to good like it should've been saved for justice league 3 when dakrisde is beat and has to go back home maybe he mightve seemed like a bitch who knows

But overall perfect way for superman and darkside first live action meeting

Can Charms be Items? Pretty please?

Question for the mods.

Charms exist in the game. But they don’t really exist in DND BEYOND, I’ve noticed. Has there ever been any thought of turning them into items for players to easier keep track of?

Do you think Zack’s Escape-verse will be one and done so Paramount can put him right back on the SnyderVerse or are we going surfin in LA?

Do you think Zack will make multiple Escape from… movies like Carpenter did with LA or will paramount quickly move Zack back to the DCEU?

The Zack attack is back Jack!

Why do people keep pretending Snyder's Superman is Homelander?

We all know Snyder's Superman is different from most of his cinematic appearances but he is not Homelander or Omniman or Injustice Superman.

Yeah, he is a bit edgy. I will admit that but comparing to him to Homelander is pushing it.

DC Boss Claims You Don't Have to See Superman to See Supergirl as Opening Weekend Box Office Tracks for Potential Disaster

[...] After spending years selling audiences on the idea of a connected cinematic universe, DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are now assuring moviegoers that they don't need to see Superman before buying a ticket to Supergirl.

The comments come at a particularly interesting moment for the studio, as Supergirl continues tracking below DC's money-losing Superman and Disney's struggling The Mandalorian and Grogu despite being the second theatrical film in Gunn's new DC Universe.

According to recent box office tracking, Supergirl is projected to open somewhere between $57 million and $77 million domestically. [...]

In a newly released promotional interview for Supergirl, Safran repeatedly emphasized that audiences do not need to have seen Superman or any other DCU project before watching Kara Zor-El's solo adventure.

[...]

"You can join Supergirl without ever having seen anything else we've done in the DCU," he said.

On its face, that's a perfectly reasonable approach. Nobody wants audiences feeling like they need to complete homework assignments before seeing a movie.

But when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, one of their primary goals was creating a cohesive DCU that would connect characters and stories across multiple projects. Now, with Supergirl approaching release, the studio appears to be emphasizing the exact opposite message: don't worry if you missed the previous chapter.

Gunn himself had also previously hyped his failed streaming series Peacemaker as a "prequel" of sorts for the next big DCU Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow. Now, as Supergirl approaches release, the message seems to be shifting from "everything is connected" to "it's okay if you skipped the last movie."

[...]

At the low end of current projections, the film would debut below Black Adam's $67 million opening weekend and well behind Captain America: Brave New World's $88.8 million launch. Even at the high end of projections, Supergirl would only slightly outperform Thunderbolts' $74.3 million debut while still falling significantly short of both Brave New World and Superman.

For the second theatrical entry in a brand-new cinematic universe, those are not the kinds of comparisons Warner Bros. was likely hoping to make.
