Questions about Burgmann Village Culture

Hey Everyone!

I'm an incoming international student, and have applied for the PhB Hons Sci prg Feb 2027 intake. I've decided to apply to Burgmann 5 share apartments for accommodation. I have a few ques tho, so if anyone staying at Burgmann village apartments (or if u know anyone who does) cud answer, it'd be GREAT! Most of these are related to partying & drinking, coz that's the main concern I have.

  1. For Someone living in Burgmann Village, how is the typical friday/saturday? is it party and drinking EVERY weekend, or only during special occasions? What's the typical frequency?

  2. Are most of the parties concentrated in the Burgmann building, or does the village also get noisy regularly?

  3. Is it possible for a student who doesn't want to drink and party to not get involved in this, but still participate in other kinds of social activities?

  4. How often are there big/loud parties compared to smaller social events?

  5. Can a resident at the village study/sleep without getting disturbed on a typical weekend night?

  6. Is there sort of quiet hours/noise rules established when things get out of control?

  7. Do people force others to participate, or are they chill (coz in my country, drinkers force and bully other students pressurising them to)

  8. (1 last non-party que) While applying, can i select 5 sharing apartment? Coz that's the only one i can afford, Studio, 2 & 3 sharing are WAY too expensive for me...

I don't mind parties or social events at all, I just dont wanna live somewhere where loud music, drinking, the like is the norm and an unavoidable part of every weekend. I just wanna know if I'll be able to mind my own business and study when i want to?

Thanks a LOT in advance!

Cheers!

Questions about Accommodation

Hello all!

I'm an international student and have applied for the PhB Hons Sci program for the Feb 2027 intake. I have some queries regarding accommodation, so wanted to ask.

I've looked at the available residences, and narrowed it down to Burgmann Village 5 sharing Apartment, and Ursula Hall.

My main requirement for a residence is-

  1. As cheap as possible. As an international student, money is already tight, so wanted to spend as less as possible on accommodation (Ursula is 512 AUD per week, Burgmann 5 share is 520 AUD per week)
  2. Food should always be available, at least 2 full meals a day. This is why I'm not looking at Self-Catered, since I don't want to be busy with making dinner when I have a busy academic workload, and I don't want to spend on ordering food from outside or some restaurant.
  3. I want to cook. Again, cooking as a luxury, like when I get time, then I'd want to cook. Like a meal in the evening when I'm free, without having to worry about a guaranteed meal.
  4. I'm not into partying, drinking, and the like. I'm a rather ambivert person, and would rather enjoy something like a board game, or a study or a sports session rather than partying (I'm a nerd basically). One thing that bothered me was that Burgmann seemed to have a rather strong party culture. So wanted to know if that's something I can avoid and spend my time studying, or whether I'd inevitably encounter no matter what.

I'd also LOVE if anyone can give me other info about other residences I can consider.

Thanks a ton everyone!

SVCE query for aspiring international student

Hey all

I’m going to SVCE tomorrow for BE ECE (it seems last minute a few seats opened)

I’ve applied at ANU, Canberra in the BSc Adv Hons and PhB Hons SCI prgs (to pursue astrophysics), and am a competitive candidate for the courses, but will receive initial offer only by mid September
But mom and dad wanted me to join here as a back up till we get the visa for Australia…

Planning to study for 2-3 months before leaving (approx time till I get final offer and visa)

I’ll be staying with my grandparents in Virugambakkam, Chennai… so just want to know abt mess food there as well…

Is it a good idea?

I wanna pursue astrophysics in the long run…

Thanks!!!

Queries about ANU Admission

Hello All!!!

My name is Spider, from India. I've completed my grade 12, and by the CBSE to ATAR conversion key on the ANU site, I have an ATAR of 99...

I wanted to apply for the PhB Hons Sci Program and pursue astrophysics for the Feb 2027 intake. However I got to know that they don't consider applications for the same TILL December...

I've kept BSc Adv Hons as my 2nd preference and BSc Hons as third...

Wanted to know, is it possible to evaluate the applications of my 2nd and 3rd preference BEFORE December, so I have a safety net, in case GOD FORBID, PhB doesn't come through?

Didn't want to wait till December for any result, since it's really taking a toll on my mental health, the fact that I still don't have a college, though having great scores, while the rest of my classmates do...

Thanks and Cheers!!!

Feedback on PhB (Honours) Science Supplementary Essays (1000 Char Limit)

Hey everyone! Spider here. I'm a recent high school graduate prepping my university applications with a focus on Physics and Cosmology. I'm working on my supplementary responses for the **Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) - Science (PhB)** program at ANU.
Before you dive into the text, here is a quick snapshot so you know the context behind the application:
**Academic Focus:** Theoretical and observational astrophysics, connecting conceptual physics with mathematical rigor and Python data tools.
**Research & Experience:** On-site internship experience at a major oceanographic research institute (INCOIS), competition finalist in GQMC Round 2, hardware diagnostic experience, and former School Head Boy.
What I would love feedback on:

  1. **ANU Fit & Tone:** Does it sound articulate, mature, and aligned with what PhB reviewers look for without feeling robotic?
  2. **Impact vs. Word Count:** Each answer has a strict **1,000-character limit (including spaces)**, so brevity and precision were my biggest constraints.
  3. **Engagement:** Do these responses paint a clear picture of someone ready for undergraduate research from Year 1?
*(Note: Fitting everything into 1,000 characters was basically high-stakes word Tetris, so feel free to call out any phrasing that feels too stiff or dense!)*

Pls tell me ifif anyone is willing toto review my essay, I’ll DM the Google docs link

THANKS!!!
