Silent Hill Townfall - Cool Little Details

From secret codes to references to the studio's previous games, here are some secrets, easter eggs and cool hidden details that I've found across my three playthroughs:

  • Influence of CEG - their logo can be found on the ‘Welcome to St Amelia’ sign, alongside the Chapman Heritage Fund found on information boards throughout the town. The Chapman Ward at the Medical Centre was funded by CEG, every home relies on CEG powercards for electricity, responsible for construction of Clara Woods with the employment of 3000 workers - providing paychecks, housing and work for many on the island of St Amelia
  • It’s Fish - A fish on a wooden plaque is labelled ‘It’s Fish’, found in the Media Department in the CEG office. A callback to ‘It’s bread’ from previous Silent Hill games!
  • Boat Names - At the beginning of the game, many of the boats along the dock are named (Derek, Fergusson, Dawson, Sarah, Hannah, George, Lesley, Duncan, Matthew, and Harris). This is a reference to all of those in critical condition after the SWDP accident - alongside those whose blood was given to Simon to enable him to survive. All of their names can be found on the 10 blood bags in the Medical Centre Otherworld level as Simon.
  • R.S. Telecoms - This is the label on all of the payphones, alongside the nine red squares. Could this be referring to Richard Shaw, showing that not only does he control the town through CEG, but also manages all communications through Richard Shaw Telecoms?
  • PT Audio - I saw someone else on this subreddit highlight how the audio of Zoe crying in the Hotel Room 204 bathroom is almost identical to the crying audio from P.T. which is a really cool detail!
  • 8:19 - This is the exact time of the SWDP accident, and all clocks in the game are frozen at this time, showing how the town never truly moved on. However, what’s even more interesting is Bible Verse 8.19 - "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed." - the town (“the creation”) is trapped in limbo, waiting to be liberated and set free by the truth that Simon carries with him. Let me know your thoughts!
  • The Haldane Hotel - A central location in the game where Zoe tended to Simon, and was later transformed into a makeshift hospital as the main Medical Centre was overrun by the deceased. The Haldane clan motto is “suffer” - which seems very fitting for a Silent Hill game!
  • 88 kg - In the surgery room, it is revealed that Simon weighs 88kg, and 88 people died on the SWDP accident - showing a physical link between Simon and The Weight monster (each kilogram represents one life lost, and Simon is the only one with the power to put the town to rest by telling them the truth)
  • Incorrect Prescription - A whiteboard in the ‘Pharmacy Store’ room in the Medical Centre shows math calculations. However, one of them is very incorrect - (2x1) x 15 = 45 - and considering this is in the Pharmacy Store room, this could very well be the exact incorrect calculation that led to Zoe’s mistake with Mr Stewart’s prescription (which led to his death). A very small detail with very big repercussions!
  • Patient Rooms - Each room where the blood bags can be found in the Otherworld Medical Centre carry parallels to their injuries. For example, Sarah Watson’s room has a huge crack in the ceiling, held together by metal rungs to represent the stitches in her head wound. Matthew Clark’s room is covered in scrawled writing to show his head injury causing brain damage. George McEwan’s room is full of steam from industrial vents to show his third degree burns covering his body.
  • No Code Easter Eggs - The Atlas Computers poster in Clara Woods shows a reference from Story 2 in ‘Stories Untold’ by Screenburn (formerly known as No Code). The achievement for finding 50% of the game’s documents is called ‘Observation’, and in the CEG Lockers Staff Room, there is a game of hangman on the whiteboard that can be solved for the word ‘Observation’ - one of No Code’s previous games! Let me know if there are any other references you’ve found!
  • The Heart of St Amelia - There are two town square monuments in St Amelia - the first is the Heart of St Amelia which is transformed into a memorial and protest hub in the coastal town. Then there is the CEG shell logo statue at the hub of St Amelia. Yet during the final boss fight with The Weight, the CEG shell is replaced with the Heart pillar, showing how CEG is literally the heart of the town, whether the people like it or not…
  • Perspective - Every character perceives the town of St Amelia slightly differently. For example, Simon’s Otherworld is industrial and mechanical, reflecting the horrors of SWDP. However, Zoe’s Otherworld reflects the medical pressure, with morgue tarps covering cars and an orange glow reflecting the distant explosion of the oil rig. Furthermore, Simon perceives CEG HQ as a towering building, whereas Richard sees it as a dilapidated office in the middle of construction.
  • Secret Code - On the bottom of the command console in SWDP Different, there is a secret numerical string - 20 8 9 19 0 23 1 19 0 1 12 23 1 25 19 0 7 15 9 14 7 0 20 15 0 6 1 9 12 - If 0 is treated as a SPACE - it translates to “THIS WAS ALWAYS GOING TO FAIL”
  • Photo of Joe McKenzie - In the crew quarters in SWDP, there is a photo of Joe, the engineer, with the writing “The First to Go”. Yet looking carefully reveals dots between the R and S in “FIRST” - signifying Richard Shaw. Super subtle, cool detail!
  • Empty Wooden Box - The final wooden box before the boss fight gives you a choice to open it. Choosing ‘yes’ reveals the box to be empty, representing Simon’s rejection of Richard’s bribery and gifts as he seeks justice for the town instead.
  • The Dockhouse Comic - Remember the comic? I think I have figured out the identity of the dockhouse man. I believe him to be Douglas, who contacted everyone with a boat upon seeing SWDP catch fire, seeking to row out and rescue as many CEG workers as possible. Yet many fishermen and innocent townspeople died in the rescue process, either from the collapsing rig or catching on fire. Indeed, the dock worker says “So I called out for EVERYONE. I called them thinking I could help somehow, but I only made it worse. One by one, they all came back different” which supports my theory. Therefore, the fish monster he encounters mirrors The Weight that Simon overcomes, with the fish monster representing the fishermen who died trying to save the workers, and Douglas blames himself for rallying the support effort. Let me know your thoughts!

In Silent Hill: Ascension, a man walks up to a stumbling enemy and effortlessly beats him up with a wooden plank, with no challenge involved and it barely putting up a fight. This is, to date, the most faithful adaptation of Silent Hill 2's gameplay loop ever made.

What games have the most and the least of the Silent Hill "vibe" to you?

We all know that the "Silent Hill vibe" or what makes something a Silent Hill game is extremely subjective, and we all have different ideas of what that is, in a way that doesn't happen in other games. I think it's because horror is just a very personal genre so we all cling onto different aspects. Sometimes it gets very complex to explain, so I thought of asking it a different way: What games do you think have the most of that vibe to you personally? And what games have it the least? I think this is a fun discussion to have

Edit: Oops, I meant within the franchise. Sorry for not being clear enough lol

Me niego a usarla.

The Coffee Table (2022)

Haven't they covered this movie in the podcast? I swear they have but I can't find it either in the channel nor the website. If I'm misremembering, does anyone know what channel i could be mistaking for Dead Meat?

SILENT HILL: Townfall | Cast Reveal Trailer (4K: EN/ESRB) | KONAMI

This is honestly so fucking awesome. I can see this trailer flipping some indecisive people on the game. We got

  • Terry O'Quinn, the legend. Is he playing the CEG ceo?
  • Alezia Burrows as nurse Ellis. She was great in Observation!
  • I'm actually not familiar with Simon's actor :( is he great too?
  • CEG has left widows in St. Amelia
  • There's an eldritch giant monster roaming the town, dropping monsters in. Reminds me a lot of Cloverfield (2008) and I love this. IIRC, they actually had an idea for an impossibly huge monster for SH4 that you could never see in its entirety, but it didn't work out.
  • Some... interesting shots of Terry O'Quinn's character and an operating table in the hospital...

I asked the angel to leave me in a purgatory so I could atone for the pain I caused while I was alive.

Next thing I knew, I was back in my rigid corpse, enclosed by the darkness of my coffin.

Faceless is now Modeus

Modeus has ALWAYS, without exception, had a white glow from the hearts in her eyes. She still has them in 2/43 of UnF, but suspiciously NOT in today's comic!
