Watchtower space combat - what am I missing?

You have all been so helpful on my "what am I missing" posts I had to try again.

I am enjoying Watchtower quests... but when I jump into a system and there are 15+ Watchtower ships I don't last long. I do have a fairly powerful secondary ship tagging along, but we both get annihilated pretty quickly. Torin told me I can add more ships to my fleet but I haven't done that yet. Is that the secret to survival? I tried changing the incoming and outgoing damage settings to Very Easy but it is still nearly impossible to survive.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Got to Avis with a reservation... no cars for anyone

What is the next level above "mildly"? Infuriatingly Infuriating?

Had a work trip to MN. Booked an AVIS full size a month ago. Landed at MSP Monday night and stood in line for 45 minutes. Got to the counter and was told "we do not have any cars". I said "oh, I have a reservation". Didn't matter. No cars. None. WTF? I needed a car for work. "We should have cars in four hours" is what they were telling everyone. And the guys working the counter could barely speak English and were so soft spoken I had to ask them to repeat themselves over and over.

No general announcement or sign. You had to wait in line for 45 minutes to be told they did not have cars. So I said "if I come back at midnight (four hours) you will guarantee me a car"?? Nope. It shifted to "we MIGHT have cars... who knows". I guess there are hundreds of people that turn in rental cars at midnight? A guy waiting in the lobby of the rental car place said he had been there over five hours waiting for the "we will have a car in four hours" and they never had a car for him at least by the time I left.

All the other rental places were also sold out. Special Olympics was in town and they all basically overbooked the cars and sold out. Like the Seinfield episode... "you know how to TAKE the reservation, but not HOLD the car". One guy had prepaid his car - nope, no car. He was not happy. No manager that could change it, no one at AVIS corporate was answering his call. He was pretty vocal about his displeasure.

I ended up having to Uber everywhere for five days for a much larger expense.

Anyone else having issues uploading pictures for a review? I am trying to get caught up this afternoon and I have tried on three different reviews so far. On a PC using Chrome. I have tried resetting Chrome and rebooting. Same issue.

This is what I get when I try:

Just me?

UPDATE: Second reboot did the trick!

How do I know what resources to keep in storage?

Hi all,

I posted about "what am I doing wrong" and got some awesome answers that have really made the game more fun. Being able to dump to ship storage from a long distance was the game changer for me.

But... that means I am keeping a TON of resources. I filled up my 4800 ship storage. I know I can build an outpost and store it... but that is like buying a new home in RL when a hoarding problem fills up the first one. :-)

How do I know what "stuff" to keep? I don't mean plants and wrenches in storage, this is all resources. I know I need some for crafting but is there a guide somewhere (I didnt find one) that goes over what to keep and what to dump?

Did anyone else on this subreddit get this pool thermometer?

Hi Viners

There are 11 Vine reviews so long shot but were any of those from this group?

There is no on/off on the part that goes in the pool and no way that I can find to open it to put batteries in. So I assume it is solar only. But I had it in the sun all day yesterday and it didn't turn on. The unit didnt come with any sort of instructions but one of the reviews had pics of their manual and I don't see anything about the transmitter.

Did I get a defective unit or am I not smart enough to figure out how to turn it on?

Can anyone recommend a pharmacy with a doctor in Ensenada

Arriving at port tomorrow. Last day of the sailing. I appear to have cellulitis on my foot. Swollen and painful. We have an excursion but was thinking if someone has a recommendation I would grab some antibiotics but may need a doctor to verify the problem. I know cruise port pharmacies can be sketchy. We are going to Bufadora on the excursion so maybe a pharmacy/doctor there would be less sketchy?

Any tips here? I can wait until we get home on Thursday but that means a quick care and more $$ so figured I would ping the group and get ideas.

Thanks

Dog doens't know when he has to poop

I tagged this behavioral problems but not sure it is "behavior". We have a 3 year old Havanese. He doesn't seem to know when he has to poop and it always seems to "surprise" him. When we go for a walk, our other dog will sniff in circles looking for the perfect place to lay down a turd. This guy? He will all the sudden squat and poop and then take off running (on the leash) like "what the heck was that???". It is funny, but he will start to poop in the house (not often) and bolt for the doggie door to finish outside.

Turds are solid and not runny, so don't think it is IBS or something like that.

Is this weird?

Boarding crowds out of Los Angeles - any recent experience

Hi all.

We are doing a last minute Mexico cruise out of Los Angeles leaving on May 22 on the Quantum. I did buy The Key (Ya, I know how everyone feels about it, but I bought it anyway). We did pretty much the same trip in September of last year on the Navigator.

When we got to the port at 10:30 in the morning last year (had The Key on this trip too) it was SWARMED. I am guessing over 2000 people ignored their boarding window and showing up whenever they wanted. RC pretty much just let them all into the pre-boarding room and it was total chaos. We were able to board with the pre-boarders (I told the people directing the flow of bodies we had the Key) but what is the point of a boarding window when it is not enforced?

Anywho... my question is - has anyone sailed out of LA recently and did you experience the same thing? Or has RC taken steps to fix this? Yes, I know I have The Key and there is a separate line, but once we got passed the outside madness and checked in, there was literally no where to sit in the terminal. And they don't let you stand against the walls. This was at 10:45 a.m.

Can I be successful with microdosing if I don't believe in therapy and meditation?

Hi all. I know I am going to get flamed for my "don't believe" comment in the subject but try to be nice.

I have been in therapy in the past for depression and did not find it useful. Nice to talk about my problems, but after the session... they are still "my problems" and nothing was solved. Same with meditation. I used to do a yoga practice that had shavasana at the end, but that 10 minutes of meditation just made my mind race thinking about everything I had to do when the session was over. "Quiet time" in my brain has always been a challenge for me.

So with microdosing (started Joyous a few days ago) they recommend things like music, mediation and other things while taking the dose, and then to attend therapy (optional I know). Is "laying on my bed doing nothing for 30 minutes" good enough?

I was on Wellbutrin for years and let's face it, you pop your pill and get on with your life. And before you say "just stay on the Wellbutrin you muppet" I can't handle the "numb" any more. My mom passed 18 months ago and I have never cried. Not once. I literally felt nothing and we were close. My depression was handled, but was replaced with... empty. Figured I would try the microdosing.

EDIT: What is up with all the downvotes on every single Vine post today? And a lot of the replies. Is someone just being an asshole?

Nothing against* Al Gore, just trying to be funny that their "algorithm" is anything but.

Thanks Vine but I have never owned an HP printer, never searched for HP ink refills and refuse to help family/friends as their IT guy when they have purchased an HP printer and they find out they can't use aftermarket ink.

This was my RFY. 10... count em .... 10 inks. Spoiler - I also do not own a Jeep.

Hi all. 61 year old male here. My memory sucks. No way to sugar coat that. Before Google, I was "google" for coworkers at my job. I remembered obscure software "switches" so it was always "ping Spock, he will know". These days I am lucky to remember what I did yesterday. At work I write everything down, take notes in meetings etc. The things I forget are weird... like "I fixed this problem last week, and this week I need to fix it again and I have no idea what I did last week" sort of things. In addition to the standard "why did I come into this room???" memory issues.

With my job, I am constantly learning new things and taking online classes so I am stimulating my brain (but yes, it is hard to remember things I learn).

I do try to eat right, probably need to exercise more, I try to get sleep but I don't sleep well (which might contribute to this), I don't smoke/do drugs and while I have a drink mostly every night, it is never more than two. Not sure if lifestyle is contributing to the memory issues.

Anyway... I see ads for things like Prevagen but looking at reviews on things like Trustpilot, the reviews are not good but who knows. Some poor reviews are competitors and when things do work, not like people do reviews. Most are just when they dont work. So wanted to see if anyone here had any personal experience with memory supplements good or bad.

EDIT: Thank you all for your insights. Yes, I know reviews and studies can be manipulated which is why I wanted to hear from the community. Working out is in the works, but I have some health issues that make it hard to workout. Not an excuse (well... guess it is) but I used to work out 5 days a week but after COVID I never got back into it. Anyway, thank you all.

We had two new Amana AC's installed in 2019. Like 11k for the larger 5 ton that cools the bedrooms. From the very beginning this unit would make a loud noise when the AC kicks on. Not super loud, but you can hear it in the rooms next to the unit. Called the installer and they came out and said it was normal on a new unit and nothing could be done.

Fast forward to our yearly checkup a week ago and it was pulling a lot of amps (like double) on startup and I was told that would cause problems down the road with how long the unit would last. The solution? A hard start capacitor to the tune of $450 (including labor). Not part of the Amama 10 year warranty because it isn't original equipment that has "gone bad".

Why on earth would a company like Amama intentionally require another capacitor to start the compressor? Is this a scam created by the installers to make money after the sale? It did quiet the startup noise, but this was more about the stock capacitor pulling too many amps vs. the startup noise. I asked why it wasn't warrantied and the answer was "well... it isn't REQUIRED but it will make your system last longer".

Just seems odd that something this expensive has to have third party addons just to function and not destroy the unit.
