Guest killed my washer

A recent guest overloaded my washer, despite a prominently displayed sign saying not to. It’s a top loader and will unbalance if overloaded. It of course did and now will not drain, spin or function.
Besides the washer thing, the guest exacerbated an already existing window problem, didnt follow checkout rules for dishes and garbage.
Now I’m applying shopping for a new washer. Do you think I should get a front loader to avoid this spin cycle unbalancing issue I already have to probably replace 2 casement windows because people try to force the crank to open them without first unlocking the window. Instructions are on the window sills with permanent labels.
How do other hosts deal with unintentional guest damage, and should i seek compensation? 6 years in so far and I never have before.

Songs in Dropped D

I’ve been keeping one guitar tuned to dropped D (DADGBE) and fiddling/adapting songs to play in the alternate tuning. Theres no way to query ultimateguitar to find songs in dD that i know. Plus I’m searching for songs that play well in it that are only tabbed in standard tuning.
Here’s what I’m working on:
Can’t find my way home-Blind Faith
Fat bottomed girls
Ohio-CSNY
Man of constant sorrow

Hollyhocks and japanese beetles. EVERY YEAR

I love my hollyhocks, but every year just as they start going full bloom, the Japanese beetles find them. I end up having to cut them all down or risk that the beetles will get a hold of everything else in my garden.
They are great at attracting bees and pollinators in general. They thrive on neglect, but they also seem to attract so many of these little fuggers that i have to go scorched earth.
Anyone have a solution so i dont have to?

What is this white stuff

Under my dead sunbaked turf, i find this stuff. Will anything grow in this soil? How should i amend it for xerascaping plants?

Fill your cup, or become something you don’t want to be.

Watched a season opener for The Pitt. It was a trauma core just like my 1st experience as an EMT student doing clinicals. I witnessed and participated in medicine at its most graphically barbaric and invasive nature at the onset of my medical career.
Then 15 years in ICU doing 12 (more like 13, more often than not) hour shifts.
People died, you still have to work. People puke, shit, yell, try to tear out IVs & ETTs, pumps alarm, phones ring, families obsess .., better prioritize correctly.
Its meaningful work. Essential even. But in time it will reduce you to either a martyr, or a stone hearted gargoyle if you don’t regularly refill your cup somewhere, with something beautiful.
Eventually i just couldn’t be around the suffering that cant be made better. The suffering of the patients, yes, but also the suffering of everyone exposed to this kind of hell on the daily.
Is there a model of floor nursing that doesn’t turn people into PTSD poster children?

Odds of seeing whales this week?

We are in Mostieros a couple of days, and wondering if its trying a whale tour in Ponta Delgada or Vila Franca de Campo is worth it. So much to see here, and loving it.
Weather predictions are wildly differing according to what service i use.., so… anyone got advise for this touron?

Bike Lane Parking and Street Blocking

In this area, everyone uses this bike lane as a parking lane, ending up blocking the bike lane and part of the traffic lane.. But this guy, *this guy* decided to park on the curb and *still* ended up in the street beyond the bike lane.

It gets old not being able to drive down the street or use the bike lane.
