Walking in the Dales and noticed a number of signs such as:-

"We don't want to shoot your dog but we will" on a gate passing sheep, which I understand given some of the recent dog attacks on sheep but worded quite aggressively.

"No footpath, despite what your GPS/Sat Nav/phone says" on a gate on what my map said was a footpath

"Walk single file on the footpath" which was so covered in shit that you could have slid down the flagstones.

"This is not a public toilet" on a gate near a layby, are people just shitting wherever?

I live pretty rurally and use footpaths over farmland most days, and I find it hard to believe people visiting are awful enough to warrant all of these signs but there must be a reason for them.

Is there an issue with the people, or number of people visiting these places?

Currently looking to spend a month or so in the Alps in 2027.

A few options have popped up in my budget (ideally sub 2k accommodation for a studio or one bed), however many of these are in towns without immediate access to pistes, for example Bourg St Maurice which has the gondola connection but no actual skiing in the town, same situation with Orelle which would require getting the lift over the mountain and would likely lose me a day a week to poor weather.

Not considering Bulgaria or other Eastern European resorts at the moment.

Are there resorts in the Alps at this price point where I can walk to a lift, and ski back from Apres?

Golf simulator, anyone?

Looking to outfit my canoe, and cannot decide if I actually need to install blocks/bags for the use it is going to get, I have searched this sub and a couple of FB pages but can't find any relevant advice.

It will be used almost exclusively on rivers, no whitewater, and the occasional lake, but never far enough from the shore that I can't swim back.

The only concern for me is having dogs on board that may decide they need to jump out and investigate the wildlife, which could capsize us.

I'm assuming not all of those buildings are included and/or need some repairs.

I am hoping to find a way of learning more about my Polish grandparents and their siblings/parents.

I have tried ancestry but do not have much information to go on and the sources outside of this, church records etc. are in Polish, which I am struggling with.

My father does not know a lot about his family history which makes this even more difficult.

Does anyone have any tips on what I might be able to refer to, or who I can contact to try and find more information?
