🌅 Fake Sky Club • Robert Moses Field 5 • Saturday 8/15

Hey Long Island!

A few of us are getting together tomorrow evening for a very uncomplicated summer meetup:

**🌅 Fake Sky Club**
📅 **Saturday, August 15**
🕡 **6:45 PM**
📍 **Robert Moses State Park • Field 5**

The idea is basically to bring some chairs/blankets and snacks, hang out by the ocean, meet some people, and watch the sunset together.

We're also doing a little photo challenge:

> **Take a picture that makes somebody say, “THAT'S LONG ISLAND?!”**

📷 Phone cameras are completely fine. You definitely don't need to be a photographer.

Bring:

* 🪑 Chair
* 🧺 Blanket
* 🥤 Drink
* 🍿 Snacks
* 📷 Camera/phone
* 🧥 Light layer for later

**Coming alone is completely fine.** A lot of people have come to our meetups without knowing anyone beforehand, so don't feel like you need to bring somebody with you.

This is part of our Long Island Discord community, but you're welcome to come meet everyone even if you've never attended anything with us before.

If you're interested, comment or message me and I can send you the Discord/event details. 🌅

Long Island Habit Exchange Meetup — Tuesday, August 18 🌱

Hi! Our Long Island community is hosting a low-pressure Habit Exchange at MOTW Coffee & Pastries in Hicksville.

📅 Tuesday, August 18
🕡 6:30–8:00 PM
📍 MOTW Coffee & Pastries
350 S Broadway, Units 6–7
Hicksville, NY 11801

Everyone will anonymously write down one small habit that has genuinely helped them.

Examples:

• Taking an evening walk
• Reading before bed
• Keeping water nearby
• Stretching for five minutes
• Preparing for the next day before bed
• Putting your phone away earlier

We’ll shuffle all the cards, and everyone will draw one new habit to try for the rest of August.

We’ll also make the habit more realistic by deciding when to try it, what reminder to use, and what the easiest possible version looks like on a difficult day.

This is not a productivity competition, wellness lecture, or dramatic lifestyle overhaul. It’s just a chance to meet people, trade genuinely useful ideas, and leave with one tiny experiment.

New members, quieter people, and anyone attending alone are welcome. You can participate without sharing personal details.

☕ Please purchase at least one drink or pastry to support the café.
💵 No separate event fee.
🧒 Older children and teens who can participate calmly are welcome with a supervising adult.
🐕 Please leave pets at home. Service animals are welcome.

👥 Minimum: 3 confirmed attendees
🌿 Ideal: 6–10 attendees
🚦 Maximum: 12 attendees

This meetup will be led by a designated community host because the usual organizer will be away. The host will be announced before the event proceeds.

Final RSVP deadline:

Monday, August 17 at 6:00 PM

A final GO or CANCELED notice will be posted after the deadline. Please do not travel until the meetup has been officially confirmed.

Join the Discord to RSVP, receive the host identification post, and view the complete meetup details:

We got 8 Long Islanders together to do our annoying digital chores... and somehow it was actually fun

We tried a slightly weird meetup idea in Huntington tonight and it worked way better than I expected 😂

Eight of us met up at Main St. Board Game Cafe for what we called a "Digital Declutter Café."

The idea was basically:

Bring your phone or laptop.

Pick ONE digital chore you've been avoiding.

And instead of sitting at home telling yourself you'll eventually deal with your 14,000 screenshots, do it at a table with other people who are also avoiding their own nonsense.

I made everyone little handmade "Tiny Reset" guides with ideas like cleaning out photos, screenshots, email, downloads, old apps, notes, subscriptions, etc. There were also some dumb little side quests and a "Digital Time Capsule" challenge to find the oldest/weirdest thing buried on your device.

And people actually did it!

Phones were getting cleaned out, laptops were open, files were getting organized, people were comparing the bizarre stuff they'd forgotten they had saved...

And then one person took "digital decluttering" to its logical extreme and literally opened up a laptop and started working on the hardware 😂

We also uncovered some incredible digital archaeology, including an old underwater proposal photo featuring a scuba diver holding a "Will You Marry Me?" sign while a ray casually photobombed the entire operation.

Once we'd been productive long enough, we declared "SCREENS DOWN," ordered more food/drinks, pulled out board games, and spent the rest of the night hanging out.

Honestly, this might be one of my favorite meetup formats we've tried.

There was no pressure to constantly make conversation because everyone initially had something to work on. People naturally started talking and helping each other while they worked, and by the time the board games came out everyone had already settled in.

Eight people spending a Monday night together deleting screenshots and playing games shouldn't have been this wholesome, but here we are.

We're a Long Island Discord community that does casual meetups like this around the Island. The whole goal is basically to create more low-pressure reasons for adults to get out of the house, meet people locally, and actually DO some of the random things we always say we'd like to do.

A lot of people come to their first meetup alone, and that's completely normal.

So if you're on Long Island and you've been wanting to make some new friends but the idea of walking into a traditional social meetup and making small talk with strangers for three hours sounds horrifying, feel free to message me for the Discord.

We do weird little activities.

Apparently now that includes communal screenshot deletion.

No regrets. 😂

FALL PREP WALL • OYSTER BAY • AUGUST 12

Before Long Island trades summer for fall, we're spending an afternoon wandering Planting Fields Arboretum together.

Wednesday, August 12
2:30 PM–5:00 PM
Planting Fields Arboretum
Oyster Bay
Free

We'll follow a relaxed scenic route through the gardens and historic grounds with photo stops, conversation prompts, little nature challenges, and plenty of time to explore.

Then we'll gather on the lawn to create one giant community Fall Prep Wall.

Prompts include:

🍁 This fall I want to...
🌱 I want to learn...
📚 I want to read...
🗺 I want to visit...
❤️ I'm ready to leave behind...
✨ One tiny goal for September...

There's also an optional easy woodland walk from approximately 5:00–5:30 PM for anyone who wants to stay longer.

This is meant to be low-pressure and newcomer-friendly. Come alone, bring a friend, stay for the whole thing, or just join us for part of the afternoon.

Comfortable walking shoes and water recommended.

If you've been looking for a way to meet some new people on Long Island without the usual bar/party setup, you're very welcome to join us.

Spent the afternoon at Bayard Cutting Arboretum with our Long Island Discord community, and it ended up being one of those days that reminds you why it’s worth putting yourself out there.

We wandered the gardens, admired the dahlia blooms, watched bees and butterflies doing their thing, explored the trails along the Connetquot River, completed a nature bingo challenge, and wrapped everything up with dinner together afterward.

No pressure. No awkward icebreakers. Just a relaxed afternoon where conversations happened naturally while walking.

One of my favorite moments was watching everyone stop every few minutes because someone had found a flower, a cool tree, or another beautiful view they wanted everyone else to see.

If you've been wanting to meet new people on Long Island but aren't into loud bars or networking events, this is exactly the kind of meetup we host.

This week we're doing a community swap in Sayville and next week we're wandering Greenport Harbor.

If that sounds like your speed, we'd love to have you.

📍 Long Island
🌿 All ages 18+
💚 Friendly, low-pressure community
🚶 Walks, coffee meetups, game nights, book club, movies, seasonal events, and more.

Feel free to ask for an invite!

🌊 Free Community Swap at Sayville Marina — Join Us Next Thursday!

We’re trying something a little different for one of our Long Island meetups 😊

On Thursday, August 6 at 6:30 PM, we’ll be hanging out at Sayville Marina Park for a Community Swap Night.

Instead of buying or selling anything, just bring a few clean things you don’t need anymore and trade with other people. It’s super relaxed—no pressure, no rules beyond “still in good shape.”

Think:

📚 Books you’ve already read
🎲 Board games you don’t play anymore
🪴 Plants or cuttings
🏡 Home décor
🧩 Puzzles
🍳 Kitchen gadgets
🎨 Craft supplies
👕 Clothes you’re ready to pass on

Basically anything that deserves a second life with someone new.

We’re also doing something a little silly: a Cursed Item Museum 👀

Bring one weird, funny, or questionable object and let the group vote on it. The more ridiculous, the better.

After the swap, we’ll take a casual walk around the marina to catch the sunset and just hang out a bit longer.

It’s:

✅ Free
✅ Family friendly
✅ Open to everyone (even if you’re new or just curious)

If you want to come, we’re coordinating everything through our Long Island Discord community. Feel free to drop a comment if you’ve got questions or just want to say hi—we’re happy to help you get set up 👍
