A few of us are getting together for a relaxed weeknight meetup in Northport on Tuesday, July 14.

The plan is simple:

📚 Browse Northport Books before they close at 7 PM.
☕ Grab a coffee or tea from the Southdown Coffee counter while we browse.
🍰 Afterward we'll head to a nearby café or dessert spot to keep the conversation going.
🌅 If people are still hanging around, we'll finish with an optional walk to the harbor.

No assigned reading.
No book club.
No pressure to buy anything.

Whether you read 50 books a year or haven't picked one up in months, you're welcome to join.

Today a group of us from a local Long Island social Discord are heading to Lavender by the Bay in Calverton.

The plan is simple:

💜 Wander the lavender fields
📸 Take lots of photos
🦋 Enjoy the butterflies and summer blooms
🛍️ Browse the farm shop
☕ Relax and enjoy one of the prettiest spots on Long Island

One thing we’ve learned from organizing these meetups is that they don’t have to be huge to be memorable.

Sometimes it’s just a handful of people enjoying a beautiful place together.

I’m helping organize a relaxed community picnic on Saturday, July 11 at 12:00 PM at Belmont Lake State Park, and we’d love to meet some new people.

This isn’t a giant festival or networking event.

It’s just a laid-back afternoon outside.

We’ll be bringing lunches, relaxing on blankets and chairs, talking about books, playing a few casual games like Uno and Rummikub, cloud watching, taking photos around the park, and enjoying a slower pace for a few hours.

Feel free to bring:

A book if you’re currently reading one

We’ll also have a fun optional nature challenge to spot birds, butterflies, and interesting fallen leaves, plus a small summer photo challenge if you enjoy photography.

Whether you’re coming solo or bringing a friend, you’re welcome. Most people attend our events by themselves the first time, so you definitely won’t be the odd one out.

I was thinking about this because a group of us are doing the Stony Brook Village Audio Experience tonight.

It got me wondering:

What’s the most underrated place on Long Island?

Not necessarily the most famous.
Not necessarily the prettiest.

Just somewhere you think more people should visit.
