Thought I would share this J. Springs early aughts chrono for a blast from the not so distant Y2K past. Fresh battery and good to go. It's very similar to main line Seiko models from the same era but the bezel is fixed and the clasp is unsigned (and atrocious) I guess those little ways of marking it as an affordable brand.
Sometimes I can't resist the super value watches on AliX. The QingXiya Willard is one of my favorites. This one on white. $15 plus an after market mesh strap.
This is my dad's 1960s Oceanographer. I'm reminded what a great guy he is every time I wear it. It was his daily for my whole life and traveled the world with him. The old man switched to a golf tracker and a large print Indiglo for his days of leisure and gifted me this. It's the one watch I would grab if the house was on fire.
Well they called the show on the shore tonight due to a threat of incoming weather. Initially they cut Lucero and were trying to get the Turnpike set in but then I guess they decided they couldn't risk it Evan seemed to be in a good mood and the handfull of songs were fun. Asbury Park is a beautiful spot and aside from the threatening storm it was a lovely night on the boardwalk.
Scored this sucker for $10 plus shipping. Fun summer add to my collection of surfy sportsy affordable watches. Li'l throwback to the '10s... Is that vintage yet lol 😂.
This past week I had a short multi-day trip to visit family out of state. Minimal packing required, no real stress at work, no real schedule challenges just catch a late morning flight from a nearby airport. I had to pack very few things for this trip since I was traveling to a family members home. One of those things was my head shaver (I am a shiny headed bald man and use it daily) Before leaving I also had too take a weekly injection (non ADHD related medication) and wanted to give my 2 goldfish a water change. I had mindfully planned for all of these things and left time for them. I charged my head shaver in advance and reminded myself it had to be packed but I needed to use it that morning. I left time to change the fish water in the morning, I planned to take my shot the night before leaving. I set alarms both for wake up time and leave the house time.
In a moment of distraction because I wanted to make sure I took my medication I ended up forgetting to take the safety cover off and wasting a weekly dose with the misfire. But I really thought I had everything else under control. (now I am going to have to stretch out the doses to make sure I don't run out before my next refill)
I left the house on time and got to the airport before security even opened and thought I was doing good.
On arrival at my destination I realized I did not pack my head shaver. NBD, I had to bic it, a minor issue. But I could have sworn up and down I put the shaver in my bag. I was only allowed a "personal item" on the flight so it's not like there was a lot to pack or much in the bag. I had very intentionally thought about making sure I brought it it as I hate to not have it, I don't like to look scruffy.
On return I click the fob to unlock my car at the airport and... silence... I left the lights on in my car and the battery was dead (I had a fleeting thought about this as I walked away from my car when I parked it but convinced myself I was crazy and didn't walk back to check) Luckily I was able to flag someone down for a jump and I do keep cables in my car.
On entering my house the fish tank was turned off and the "new" water bucket was sitting in the middle of the room. I got halfway through the task and never finished, my poor fish were stuck in a stagnant half-filled tank for the weekend (thankfully they are OK) It is a 5 gallon bucket I use for the water change this is not something you would just not notice is sitting in the middle of a room. I had to have walked past it several times on my way out the door.
My head shaver was left on the bathroom sink, I remembered to retrieve it from the shower but got distracted at brushing my teeth and left it there. Again out in the open I would have seen it there, it wasn't hiding.
These are minor things but cumulatively it just exhausts me that I cannot manage to take a short trip and not even manage to do the few things I planned to do. There is always something forgotten, something carelessly broken or lost, something left undone. Mostly I cope and manage my life but it can just be exhausting. I am 50, I am just exhausted with myself sometimes. These were all minor things, no big disasters. But every time I travel it's something lost, something forgotten, and a couple times tearing apart my bag looking for something that is not there or is there and I just don't see it.
The only miracle is that I managed not to loose the ticket for the parking lot.
Not sure why I am posting this here, just venting. I can't really vent this to anyone they just think I am a forgetful and a spaz but I didn't forget any of these things, I thought about all of them planned for them and still got it wrong. No harm no foul but it just makes every small disruption to schedule that much harder. I'm tired.
Heading out of town again this weekend and I am just wondering what I will screw up this time, this past trip wasn't even one of my bad ones it's just the baseline and that is what makes it so frustrating.
Diving through the steamy urban soup today with my SD1975. I picked up this watch a year ago with the steel bracelet but really haven't worn it much because it always felt super bulky. A cheap aftermarket tropical strap has been a game changer for comfort. What Chinese awesomeness is your wrist flaunting today?
Watchdives high beat quartz homages make great daily drivers IMO. I have this WD1972 and the WD1965 62 MAS both modest-sized, under-stated dive watches perfect to grab n go. WD1972 today because it's humid and the weather is all over the place so the NATO for max comfort. What is on your wrist today?
Got the notification that my Cronos No-Date Sub homage was delivered yesterday. My first new Chinese watch in a year. I was having second thoughts after ordering what could be considered an over-homaged cliche but it is a beaut in hand. Cronos definitely comes in a cut above some of the lower-price point sub homages. Bracelet is very smooth and comfortable, finishing on the case is lovely, slide adjust clasp works well. The PT5000 is humming along. I don't put my watches under microscopes but I really can't find any flaws here everything feels like quality. Amazing watch at the $200 price point, insane at this price point IMO. 10 days from placing the order on AliX to delivery. I have to say I prefer the sub without the date window. I would prefer most watches without a date window TBH. My only small critique would be the ghost date on the movement but that is pretty minor all things considered.
This band is just so sick live. It's always amazing to see a band at this level play a small room. Sorry for the wonky start to the video.
