Random 1-2s Black Screens (Audio continues). ASRock GPU 9070. Tried DDU, Reseating, Dedicated Cables.
I am getting intermittent 1-2 second black screens where the display drops completely, but the PC does not crash. Background processes, game audio, and YouTube videos keep playing perfectly while the screen is black.
The black screens are entirely random. They happen under heavy gaming loads, but they also happen during incredibly low-power tasks like scrolling in Google Chrome.
Hardware:
- GPU: ASRock Radeon (running stock VBIOS)
- Monitor Connection: DisplayPort (using a brand new cable)
Physical Troubleshooting Already Completed:
- GPU Reseat: Completely removed the card, inspected the PCIe slot and pins (no damage), and reseated it. It is perfectly flush, properly clicked into the motherboard latch, and securely screwed to the case bracket to eliminate sag.
- Power Delivery: Verified I am using two completely independent 8-pin PCIe power cables directly from the PSU. No daisy-chained/pigtail splitters are being used.
Software/OS Troubleshooting Already Completed:
- Clean Driver Install: Booted into Safe Mode (offline) and ran DDU. Reinstalled the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers using the "Factory Reset" option.
- Zero Overclocks/Undervolts: The GPU is currently running on the absolute strict "Default" profile in Adrenalin. No custom fan curves, no power limit changes, and my previous undervolt has been completely wiped.
- Windows Settings: Disabled Windows Fast Startup to prevent corrupted kernel states from hibernating. Switched Windows Power Plan to High/Ultra Performance and tested Minimum Processor State at 100% (did not solve the issue).
The One Thing I Haven't Tested: I do not currently have an HDMI cable on hand to bypass the DisplayPort module entirely to see if it's a failing DP port on the GPU or the monitor.
Has anyone experienced this specific TDR/black screen behavior that wasn't solved by DDU or dedicated power cables? Is there a specific Windows registry key, AMD MPO (Multi-Plane Overlay) issue, or background service I should be looking at before I RMA this card?
