How do I even start?

Hey y’all.

Currently a first year college student living at home with my parents. I got diagnosed with IBS-M over summer and have really been struggling with symptoms.

I have tried explaining to my parents the low FODMAP diet and how it’s supposed to help. My dad doesn’t work, so he’s usually doing all of the grocery shopping. He constantly buys freezer meals and snacks that are high in FODMAPs and I simply can’t eat, even though he thinks they will be fine and won’t trigger me.

I’m trying to find budget friendly options I can start purchasing on my own. Obviously I can’t afford elaborate meals alone, but I really want to fully start the diet as soon as possible, so I’m not stuck managing my symptoms with no explanation for even longer.

What are some pantry staples? Easy lunches I can take to work and school? Any and all tips are greatly appreciated 🥲

Do I watch the lectures or read chapters first?

Hello! I recently started an online psychology class, I need to watch a lecture per week as well as read a chapter of our textbook. I know it’s personal preference but I would appreciate some direction as to which should I do before the other? In terms of note taking, do you guys write lecture/chapter notes on separate pages, or leave gaps to fill in from the other?

Meal Prepping Ingredients?

Hi all. I’m new to meal prep and cooking in general, trying to figure out what works for me as a student going into college. Whenever I tend to cook or meal prep, I’ll usually have ingredients left over. Whether it be half an onion that rots in the fridge, or parsley that is now so shriveled it’s just sad to use, I was wondering if it was a thing to meal prep ingredients. I’ve seen a lot of people on TikTok using those frozen food cubes and reheating it for lunches and dinner so I was wondering if this would be a similar concept. Instead of wasting the half an onion, would dicing it in freezing it in an ice cube tray be viable or would it disrupt the flavor and texture too quickly with fresh ingredients? I’m sorry for the dumb question, but I am trying to make the effort to reduce waste and be more cost effective when cooking, thank you!

ADP for smushed banana + sticky key?

Hi all. I got a Lenovo yoga 7i about 2 months ago. About two weeks ago, at a work potluck, I spilled strawberry syrup onto the right arrow key and it has been sticky ever since. After this happened, I added ADP onto my plan to cover any damages that may happen in the future. Last week, I put my laptop in my bag at work and when I got home, I realized that the banana in the bottom of my bag that I forgot about was completely squished into the right side of my computer. In a moment of pure desperation and panic, I sucked the banana out of the ports. All the mush came out and I was able to lightly tap the residue with a tissue. It was a family member Sweet 16 that day so I couldn’t attend to it further at the moment because I had no rubbing alcohol to clean it out with. The next day I was able to get some rubbing alcohol and cleaned the inside with toothpicks and cotton swabs with 91% rubbing alcohol. I’ve had to use the laptop a couple times for work, and it’s been fine. On the HDMI port, there’s a little bit of corrosion but I haven’t used anything on the damaged side in fear of it not working. Since I’m still over 2 weeks before I can make a claim, I’m unsure of what to do. I was thinking of claiming it a couple days after the 30 days are up and saying that the banana mush had just happened, and made a few keys sticky too (trying to get the syrup taken care of under the same claim…. not entirely a lie because the banana did get inside of the laptop itself and got the vents/speakers (idk what it’s called… the dots on the side of the keyboard) filled with banana too). My current worry is that since I cleaned it on my own, would it still be covered under ADP? Like I said, the computer itself still works, but I want to get it checked by a professional so the corrosion (both in the hdmi and possibly underneath the sticky key) doesn’t cause my computer to stop working long term. Does anyone have experience claiming to ADP when something happened before the 30 days?

Resident Cat Afraid of New Cat

Hi all!

About 2 months ago, my family adopted a male 13 week old kitten, we named him Cooper. He’s extremely social and loves people, extremely chill when he’s tired but gets big bursts of playful energy as expected for a kitten.

Our other cat, Meeko, is a female and extremely antisocial… a borderline scaredy-cat. Anytime anyone comes to our house she runs away and hides in a bedroom, and barely tolerates me or my mom as she’s bonded with my dad. We found her outside at my mom‘s work when she was really small, we thought around 8-10 weeks. We got her November 2023.

A big fear of ours when getting another cat who was making sure that they got along. When Meeko was a kitten, we didn’t know about the cat introduction process, and our other cat (Juni) at the time would go after her. She would terrorize and attack Meeko to the point where we had to find a different placement for her.

Now that we know about the cat introduction process and how you’re supposed to take it slow, Cooper has been staying in my room as “base camp” and Meeko has stayed roaming the house. We’ve been doing all the stuff that you’re supposed to do like scent swapping, feeding them on opposite sides of the door, and just trying to create a positive association with each other.

At night time, Cooper has a lot of built-up energy from being in my room all day and even though I would play with him at night, he would still keep me up. We started with once every couple days, but now it’s turned into once or twice a day where we will lock Meeko up and allow Cooper to run around the house to get his zoomies out.

Initially, we had a baby gate on my door and so when I needed to get out of my room, I would just step over it. Cooper learned that he could do the same thing and jump over the baby gate, so one day, he jumped over and ran into the house. When we all rushed to go grab him, Meeko just ran away and hid.

After that incident we upgraded to a zipper screen door. I will leave my door closed most of the day but leave it open at random points. Meeko will just sit by the door and watch Cooper, but as soon as he starts moving closer, she hisses and runs away. Neither of them have an intent to hurt or play with each other from what I’ve seen… Cooper is just curious and Meeko wants nothing to do with him.

Do I just need to be more patient with this whole process? They don’t need to be besties or anything, but I need them to coexist together 🥲

Spilled Syrup on Single Key

Hi all. Yesterday while I was at work I was eating a dessert that had strawberry syrup on top of it and realized that I had spilled it on top of my laptop. It only spilled directly on top of the right arrow key, not on any of the other ones or in the airflow holes on the side. I don’t know how long it took me to notice it happened, I just looked over and saw that there was a big droplet covering the key. I quickly searched up what to do and turned off and flipped over my laptop to hopefully drain/dry up the syrup while I was still at work to avoid damaging the motherboard. After about 2 hours I had to leave, so I closed my laptop and went home. It’s now the morning after and I’m unsure of what to do. I turned on my computer accidentally and shut it off again, but I touched the arrow key and it has some resistance from the stick and makes an extra clicky sound. You can still see some of the sticky residue as well which is shown in the pictures. I looked into ADP which would be about $30 to add onto my warranty. Is this something that will likely cause a lot of damage? When it initially happened I had turned my laptop off and turned it back on, and gave me the windows message that “your device ran into a problem and couldn't be repaired” but after researching it seems like the message pops up with software updates and installations, not after a scenario like this so I’m not sure if I should worry about that as well. Since my laptop is still working.. is it something I should just ignore or will my laptop likely eventually stop working? Does anyone have experience taking keys off and cleaning with isopropyl alcohol or should I even attempt it myself? For reference, I have the basic Yoga 7i. Thanks to all!

How important is using pigment ink when archival printing?

For a while I’ve considered starting a snail mail club. I enjoy scrapbooking, and would like my mail club to reflect that; fun things delivered monthly that people can use to scrapbook and journal with.

With my scrapbooks, I try to make sure everything is acid free/archival safe. A concern I’ve seen while researching is that dye ink won’t last overtime, even if it’s on archival/acid free paper. A big priority to me is the longevity of prints because id like to label everything as long lasting. I currently have an HP OfficeJet 8015e, but don’t want to utilize it with a print club because of the cost of the ink, plus I would also like the option of printing on a larger scale.

A printer I’ve been looking at is the Epson Ecotank 15000. I like that it can print 12x12 and that the ink is inexpensive to refill. I have seen people online using pigment ink, but I’m concerned about messing up my machine and being stuck with my consequences since it voids the warranty. Should I just stick with using the dye ink, or will it really only hold up for a few years?

I’m definitely open to suggestions and would love to hear if anyone has experience with archival printing. I would love something with low ink cost and the ability to print 12x12. Thanks to all !!
