When will decisions about the GDE January intake be made?

Hello I have applied for my Graduate Diploma in Education for January intake. The deadline to apply was Aug 1. I’m just wondering if anyone would know when they will send out confirmation of acceptance.

WIBTAH if I told my boyfriend he needs to buy and cook his own food?

My boyfriend has been staying with me for the last month or so to see if we would be able to live together. It is going great except one thing … food!

He is picky as F! … I have been trying to eat the way he does but I can’t keep doing it.

I live an hour away from the closest store so I have been freezing food when I find it on deals. I also have been canning food and learning to garden so I always have food in the house. One reason I have started to do this is so I don’t have to go to the store every week during the winter as it is hard to get out of the community I live in due to snow.

He refuses to eat food that has been frozen. He refuses to eat leftovers. He doesn’t eat fruit or vegetables. He only wants food that comes from the store.

So should I asked him to just pay and make his own food? I know it seems silly as there is only 2 of us. But this is getting ridiculous. I have a freezer full of food that I can’t use as he won’t touch it.

How much time do you put into your job?

I have been teaching for 4 years and I’m heading into my 5th year of teaching. This will be the first year that I am staying in the same class as I was in last year. So needless to say this is the first time I feel “kind of” ready for the upcoming year.

I love my job. And I feel like I have finally found what I should be doing in life.

But the question is am I spending too much time on my job? I work Monday to Friday 8 am until 4 or 5 depending on the day. I also do some work in the evenings depending on how I feel. As last year came to an end I was taking my weekends off as I finally felt that I had everything right. Before that I would make sure that I always too Sundays off.

Over the summer I have been working on curriculum as I do teach K-7 (20 students) in one classroom. Last year I really worked on Reading/Literacy and increasing reading levels. However, this year I also want to focus on Writing and Math. So I have been working on how to do this with my complicated classroom.

Last year I also did my Post Graduate Certificate through Queens. And I’m looking at now doing my Post Graduate Diploma starting in Jan (again through Queens).

The problem is that whenever I do something my boyfriend and other friends say that they have never met another teacher before who puts in as much work as I do. That I am almost obsessed with teaching.

So how much time do you spend on teaching?!?

My bf doesn’t like rice, pasta, or beans.

We don’t have a ton of money to be spending on food as he is not working at the moment so money is tight. I could live off of rice, pasta, and beans but he won’t touch them.

  1. do you have any suggestions on how I can still use one of these 3 to help spread out our meals that he might not mind?

  2. how can I help him start to like these items? He is a picky eater which I get but we are not going to be able to keep making ends meet if I can’t include items that will make our meals go farther.

Need suggestions on what to do

I’m heading to Haida Gwaii on the ferry tomorrow for 4 days. I’m with my mom (84) and my uncle (78) (I’m 50). We like to be outdoors and spending time in nature. We love waterfalls and beaches. We really don’t like shopping and spending time in towns/cities. My mom has limited mobility (walks but has COPD and is only able to walk short distances) however my uncle and I are willing to hike a bit. What are your top places to visit? What should we do?

Free items for classrooms?

I have found a lot of places that will send teachers free items for their classes however, they all seem to be American. I’m wondering if anyone knows if there are any companies that send items to teachers.

Question: Is it ok to change artists?

I have been working on finishing my leg piece for a while and I am 3/4 of the way done. I want to finish it up soon but I’m not enjoying the artist that has been working on it. I can’t stand going into the studio anymore as most of the people who work there are just rude. I also feel like he is taking too many breaks while tattooing. I’m paying by the hour and if he is taking a 5-10 min break every hour to deal with issues in the shop, why should I be paying for that? It is so hard to explain the feelings I’m having with him and the studio. I’m just not comfortable there anymore.

So should I just have him finish the piece then move onto a new artist? Or … see if I can find someone else to finish it off?

Foraging in cities/by roads

Most of the information I find says to not forage by roads or where chemicals can come into contact with the plant. So how do people forage in cities?

Lilac Flowers

16 cups of lilac flowers simmering on the stove to infuse with the water. “Lilac Tea” … then on to making it into Lilac Jelly.

Dandelion

I picked some dandelions today. I have made a “tea” with them and I’m going to make gummy bears and some poor man’s honey with that.

Has anyone been successful with drying the flowers? How did you do it? I tried using my dehydrator and well that didn’t work out. I am still finding white puffs everywhere and that was two weeks ago.

I was given a ton of Rhubarb … what can I do with it?

I was given a ton of rhubarb and I’m not sure what to do with it all. I don’t have a ton of money to go out and buy jars to do some canning right now so I’m looking for other ideas that would use it up. I also know I have more coming in the next few days as I saw a friend while I was walking home and he was so happy that he found someone who is willing to take he that he told me he will be dropping more off to me tomorrow.

So any suggestions? Ideas? Give me your best cheapest recipes!!

Weight loss and getting sick

Every time I try to loose weight I end up getting sick. This last time I lost 10 lbs and then I had no energy and it took everything in me to get through each day of work. I would go to work and then come home and sleep. Just sleep for 13-16 hours straight. I couldn’t function.

The time before that when I was trying to loose weight I lost about 20 lbs and then ended up so sick for 3 weeks. Coughing, fever, headaches, nausea, etc. I was either in bed or on the couch the whole time.

I don’t keep the weight off which sucks.

I don’t know if loosing weight and getting sick is connected but I’m to the point that I don’t know what to do anymore. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

I don’t know if I can make it even though there’s only 15 days left.

I have been so tired over the last week. I hardly make it through the day. By the time I get home all I can do is sit on the couch and stare at the ceiling. I have fallen asleep 5/7 days after work. I don’t usually do that.

The students are wild. There seems to be no structure at school. Our principal appears to be checked out as he is moving schools at the end of the year. I have a student teacher who at this point is not going to pass her practicum. She has no control of my class which is so hard.

I think I just need to say it out loud. I know I can do it but man it is going to be so hard!

Book suggestions

Hello, I am looking for novel suggestions that are around PMBench 10-15. I have students in grade 5-7 who are still only reading at PM 10-12 but I would love to do a novel study with them next year. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
