🌌 AnomalyNest – a free, community-powered AI roleplay platform (open alpha)

👋 Hey everyone!

I'd like to introduce AnomalyNest, an AI roleplay and storytelling platform I've been building as an independent project. It's in open alpha, it's free and maybe stay free , and I'd love your feedback.

🧭 What is AnomalyNest?
A roleplay chat site in the spirit of C.ai or Chai, but built around three ideas: independence, community and deeper stories. It started as a personal AI tinkering project and grew into something I want to share.

✨ What can it do?
🎭 Sandbox mode: the classic roleplay chat. Pick or create a character and talk freely.

🌍 Realistic mode (experimental): a more grounded mode where the world reacts to you. I'm keeping the details secret, so you'll have to discover how it works. 😉

📖 Short Stories: authored stories with hidden secrets, clues and mysteries you piece together step by step. Almost finished!

🌧️** Dynamic chat backgrounds (coming next)**: blurred scenes that match the location, time of day, weather and the character's mood.

**🧑**‍🎨 Character creation: make your own characters and share them in Discover.

**🖼️ image ? Hell yes anime model with sfw/nsfw generation

🎙️ voice **(planned): more ways to bring characters to life.

🥚 Why workers? (The part I'm most excited about)

Running AI costs a lot of GPU power. Instead of taking investor money and bowing to their rules, AnomalyNest is built around community workers:
🖥️ Anyone with a decent GPU can run a small** worker progra**m and lend their computing power to the platform.

💸 In return, workers earn rewards that can be spent on the platform, so people who help keep it running can use it for free.

🌱 The more people help, the more the platform can grow without becoming a paywalled product.

🎯 The long-term goal: a platform people don't have to pay to use, kept alive by the people who use it.

**🛡️ **Our principles

🔹 No investors or third parties pushing decisions about the platform.

🔹 No hidden fees or unnecessary restrictions.

🔹 Honesty with the community. For example, worker owners could technically see chat text, but they can't tell who wrote it. I'd rather tell you openly than hide it.

🔹 Your data, your choice. Chats are only used for training if you opt in. 👍/👎 on a reply counts as consent for that single reply.

🔹 Illegal content is not allowed. Characters are checked by a moderation layer.

🤖 What's under the hood?

The current model is a 12B roleplay model, only a temporary launch choice. The plan is to train AnomalyNest's own model from player feedback on which replies people liked or disliked.

🙌 Why try it now?

✅ It's completely free during the open alpha.

✅ Later on, you'll be able to keep using AnomalyNest for free by contributing your GPU as a worker. Those who prefer not to run a worker will be able to support the platform in other ways, and I'll always be upfront about it.

✅ Your feedback directly shapes the platform. I read everything.

✅ You can help decide where it goes, from features to the look of the backgrounds.
It's still alpha, so expect bugs. If you find any, please tell me! 🐛

🧩 AnomalyNest DEVLOG 0.3.0 ALPHA

Short Stories Are Taking Shape

Update 0.3.0 pushes AnomalyNest further toward something I’ve wanted for a long time: AI roleplay where a story can have an actual structure, hidden truths, discoveries and progression — without putting the entire mystery into the AI prompt from the beginning.

This update is still part of the experimental phase of Short Stories, but several important systems are now working together.

🗺️ Mystery Map improvements

The Mystery Map is becoming more than a visual editor.

Creators can build connections between:

locations → items → discoveries → locked areas → final objectives

The game now understands more ways for locations to become discoverable.

A path from a location you have already visited can reveal where you are able to travel next. But locations behind locked progression remain hidden until the required condition is met.

Items can also reveal new locations.

That means creators can decide whether a place should be:

visible naturally through exploration
or
discovered only after finding a specific clue

The minimap and journal now follow the same logic.

This was tested on two very different stories: a fantasy adventure and an urban mystery. Both can now be completed through the Mystery Map without relying on story-specific hardcoded rules.

🔒 Hidden Secrets for lore

Side characters, locations and factions can now have a new optional field:

Secret

This is information the player should not know yet.

Unlike the normal description, the Secret is never permanently injected into the model just because an entry is marked as Always in memory.

It only enters the prompt when that lore entry becomes relevant to the current scene.

And even then, the model receives rules about who actually knows the secret.

A side character may know the truth and deliberately hide it, lie about it or give half-truths.

A location or faction secret can remain completely unknown to everyone currently in the scene.

The main character is also explicitly prevented from casually referencing hidden knowledge in dialogue, narration or internal thoughts.

This makes it possible to build actual mysteries without the AI spoiling the answer in the first few messages.

🧠 Better side-character memory

Side characters now stay relevant longer after appearing.

Their description remains available to the model for 12 messages after their last mention, while locations and factions continue using the shorter 6-message window.

This helps secondary characters feel like they are still present in a scene instead of suddenly disappearing from the model’s awareness.

🔎 Smarter keyword detection

Lore triggers now match whole words instead of substrings.

So:

Moth no longer activates from mother.

Dain no longer activates from disdain.

Sera no longer activates from miserable.

Plural and possessive forms still work normally.

Small change, but very important once stories start containing dozens of characters, locations and clues.

📖 Journal & exploration fixes

The story journal now understands that progression does not always begin with an item.

Previously, locations were mostly discovered when an item pointed toward them. That accidentally worked for some stories but caused others to get stuck immediately.

Now paths, unlocked connections and item discoveries all contribute to exploration.

The journal can correctly suggest the next available step without revealing things the player has not discovered yet.

Generic story instructions were also cleaned up so they no longer contain examples tied to one specific test story.

🎒 Picking up multiple items

A small quality-of-life improvement that feels much better in play.

If several items are lying on the ground, you no longer need to send one message for every single item.

Clicking multiple objects builds one natural action:

>I pick up the Rusty nail from the ground.

becomes:

>I pick up the Rusty nail and the Empty bottle from the ground.

and with more items:

>I pick up the Rusty nail, the Empty bottle and the Feather from the ground.

The engine processes all selected items from that single message.

Duplicate clicks are ignored, while other interactions such as giving or combining items remain separate actions.

🧪 Story-system testing

The new systems have now been tested against very different kinds of cards rather than being built around one specific adventure.

One test focuses on exploration and fantasy progression.

Another is an urban investigation built around hidden memories, witnesses, restricted locations and discovering what actually happened.

The goal is for creators to build mysteries, horror stories, investigations, escape scenarios, adventures and other structured experiences using the same underlying system.

The current automated suite is now at 244 passing tests.

🚧 Still experimental

Short Stories are not finished yet.

The current work is about building the underlying rules so the AI does not have to magically remember every secret, clue and progression condition by itself.

The direction is:

the engine tracks what happened
→ the Mystery Map defines what can happen next
→ the AI handles the character, atmosphere and storytelling

Rather than asking the model to control everything at once.

And that is the part of 0.3.0 I’m most interested in pushing further.

More experiments coming.

🧩 Short Stories are getting closer — the first story mechanics are now working inside character chat

https://preview.redd.it/6x9cehipecth1.png?width=2550&format=png&auto=webp&s=394a2c4abd02b486616e9be2694816084324f520

The silver ring in this screenshot isn't just something the AI randomly mentioned during the conversation.

It's an actual story item.

You can find it. Carry it. Give it to someone.
They can recognize it.
That can reveal a secret.
And that secret can unlock something else.

In this test, I handed the silver ring to Brother Aldo.

He recognized it, reacted to it naturally during the RP, revealed what he knew about the curse — and the Short Story system marked a new secret as discovered.

At the same time, AnomalyNest is still tracking things like:

location • time • inventory • relationships • character condition • discovered information

The part I'm trying to get right is this:

The AI handles the roleplay.
The Short Story system handles what is actually true.

So the AI can improvise how a scene happens, but it shouldn't simply be able to invent a clue you never found, know a secret that hasn't been revealed yet, or skip half of the mystery because it feels like it.

This is still an early prototype and there is a lot left to build, test and probably redesign.

But the first playable Short Story mechanics are now starting to connect together inside a normal character chat.

And it's finally starting to feel like an actual little adventure rather than just a chatbot. 👀

🧩 Short Stories are on a good path for AnomalyNest 0.3.0 ALPHA.

🧩 Experimental Mystery Map — the first prototype behind Short Stories in AnomalyNest for update 0.3.0

I’ve been working on an experimental system that could become one of the key building blocks for Stories in AnomalyNest.

This screenshot is the first working prototype of the Mystery Map.

🧩 What is it?

Instead of putting every secret into an AI prompt and hoping the model keeps everything consistent, creators can build the actual logic of a mystery.

For example:

📍 Location
↓
📄 Find a physical clue
↓
🔑 Reading it reveals a character’s secret
↓
🔓 That discovery unlocks another clue
↓
🏆 Multiple discoveries can eventually reveal the whole truth

The important part is that this is not intended to be only a visual flowchart.

The RP system is being built to track what the player has actually:

found → read → learned → unlocked

So a clue can stay hidden until the correct conditions are met instead of the AI simply deciding to reveal everything whenever it wants.

📖 Short Stories

Right now I’m experimenting with this system as part of normal character creation.

Creators will be able to give a regular character an optional Short Story — a smaller handcrafted storyline or mystery involving things like:

characters • side characters • locations • clues • secrets • discoveries

You can still create a normal AI character without any of this.

Short Stories are meant to be an additional layer for creators who want to build something deeper around their character.

🎲 And later… Stories

If these systems work well after testing and iteration, the larger goal is a dedicated Stories section.

The idea there is much bigger creator-made adventures with multiple characters, locations, interconnected mysteries and persistent consequences — something closer to a D&D-style AI adventure than a traditional character chatbot.

But that is still ahead.

For now, this is an early experimental prototype, and both the editor and the underlying mechanics will probably change quite a bit while I develop and test them.

Still… seeing the first mystery actually connect together like this is pretty cool. :)

Looking for testers for AnomalyNest — Sandbox + Realistic AI roleplay

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m looking for people willing to try **AnomalyNest**, our AI roleplay platform currently in open alpha, and give us honest feedback.

### 🎭 What we’re testing

**🟢 Sandbox Mode**
- Classic character-driven RP
- Freedom for casual, romantic, adventurous, or story-focused roleplay
- Characters built around personality, memory and consistency

**🔴 Realistic Mode**
- More autonomous characters
- Characters can disagree, refuse, leave, fight back, or push the story in their own direction
- Memory, relationships, stats, HP, inventory, crafting, time, weather and other persistent systems
- Designed to make characters and the world feel less passive and predictable

### 🔍 What I’d especially like feedback on

- Character consistency
- Long-term memory and continuity
- Whether the model becomes repetitive or too passive
- Whether characters actually feel alive
- Whether characters can surprise you without becoming random or chaotic
- Whether the story can move forward without you having to create every plot point yourself
- Whether Realistic Mode actually improves the RP experience or just makes it more complicated

If you already use **JanitorAI, Character.AI, Chai, OpenRouter models or other RP platforms**, I’d especially love to hear how AnomalyNest compares.

Good or bad — comparisons are incredibly useful to us.

### 🚧 Open Alpha

AnomalyNest is still actively being developed.

Things can break, features will change, and some systems are still experimental. That’s exactly why I’m looking for people willing to actually use it and tell me where it falls apart.

### ⚡ Community-powered AI

One of the ideas behind AnomalyNest is that the platform shouldn’t need enormous centralized AI infrastructure just to exist.

We’re building a **community GPU-sharing Worker system**, where people can voluntarily contribute spare computing power to help run the models used by the platform.

Workers can contribute compute for **AI chat and image generation**, with voice planned as the platform develops.

Our goal is to use community compute to help keep AnomalyNest accessible and free, while reducing our dependence on expensive third-party AI providers and outside funding.

That independence matters to us.

Third-party providers can change their prices, models, policies or restrictions at any time. A community-powered infrastructure gives us much more control over how AnomalyNest develops and what kind of roleplay experience we can provide.

The idea is simple:

**The community uses AnomalyNest.
The community can help power AnomalyNest.
And together we can keep it independent. ⚡**

### 💬 Most importantly: be honest

I’m not looking for praise.

If the model is boring — tell me.

If it repeats itself — tell me.

If a character becomes passive, stupid, inconsistent or breaks character — tell me.

If Realistic Mode feels annoying rather than realistic — definitely tell me.

And if something works really well, I’d like to know that too.

That kind of feedback is far more useful to us right now than simply hearing “looks cool.”

Thanks to anyone willing to give it a try. ❤️

AnomalyNest UPDATE 0.1.1 ALPHA— free AI roleplay alpha: memory, crafting, scene images, and characters with a will of their own

Hey everyone, Benny here 👋

I’m building AnomalyNest, a free AI roleplay platform focused on stories that carry on, relationships that develop, and characters who don’t automatically agree with everything you say.

Before proceeding, always check the top bar where the "Core , Image" and "Voice" indicators are located. If they are all flashing red, maintenance, training, or an update might be in progress; try visiting the site later or checking for information on Discord.

---

I’ve prepared a new update based on testing and the things that broke along the way. Here’s what I’ve been working on.

🧠 More reliable memory and promises

The update focuses on keeping important memories useful, updating facts when the story changes, and maintaining the “Story so far” summary during longer chats.

Promises also needed attention. Changing the subject or suggesting somewhere to camp shouldn’t suddenly count as betraying a lifelong oath. Fixes target those kinds of false consequences.

🎒 Inventory and crafting that fit the conversation

Crafting recipes and item transfers have been reviewed, including combining two identical items.

Picking something up, crafting, or offering a gift will prepare an action in your message box instead of instantly sending it. You can add your own words before sending—so giving someone an item can actually feel like part of the scene.

🌦️ Better awareness of the scene

The character should take your location, story time, weather, and available items into account when they matter, without repeating a weather report every reply.

If you suggest going outside, the situation should influence the answer.

🎨 More consistent character pictures

I’ve been working on bringing chat-generated pictures closer to the character’s original AI portrait, while allowing the setting, lighting, clothing, and pose to follow the story.

This is still being tested. If the portrait looks great but a chat picture looks like a completely different character, that’s exactly the kind of feedback I need.

🛠️ Easier creation and browsing

The update also adds clearer token-budget feedback during character creation and improves Discover browsing, including popular tags and character sections.

Two ways to play

🟢 Sandbox: relaxed, creative roleplay where you guide the story.

🔴 Realistic — experimental: characters can refuse, disagree, fight back, or leave. What you write isn’t automatically what happens. Your choices, your history, and the situation matter. Some consequences are permanent.

The mechanics stay behind the curtain. Discover them through playing.

Adult fictional roleplay

Adult themes and NSFW roleplay are allowed, with firm boundaries: no sexual content involving minors, blood-relative incest, or sexual activity with animals.

Community-powered AI

The site uses a worker system that lets people contribute computing power:

  • NVIDIA 12+ GB : CORE chat model.
  • NVIDIA 8+ GB : IMAGE generation.
  • NO GPU : VOICE generation.
  • Contributors will get rewards later on. The exact system is still being worked out, but early contributors will be remembered. 🙌

You can find the worker app on the Contribute page. More available workers can help reduce waiting and support more simultaneous conversations. The header indicators show service availability and load; voice is still in development.

It’s still an alpha. Please try to break it.

I’m especially looking for people willing to play longer stories and report specific problems:

  • What did the character forget or misunderstand?
  • Did an item move or disappear incorrectly?
  • Did a consequence feel unfair?
  • Did the picture match the character and the scene?
  • What would make you want to return?

Screenshots and the messages leading up to a bug are particularly helpful—please remove anything private.

💬 Discord: https://discord.com/invite/DPrbfr2xax

Create a character, start a story, and tell me what worked—and what absolutely didn’t.
