"look how they massacred my boy"
This has probably been around for a while, but I only just discovered this section of playable games within YouTube.
Question about the recent recompiled games/native ports that have been appearing
First off, I should mention that I’m a programming layman, so please keep that in mind while reading this. I might be oversimplifying something that is actually quite complex. Here goes!
The Phosphor Emulator was recently released here, allowing people to play classic Pokémon games with the latest modifications being applied (Gen1Recomp, Dramatic Voxel Mod, etc.).
In other words, Phosphor acted as a launcher for these Pokémon games (performing the same function as the Gen1Recomp launcher).
With that in mind, why don't existing emulators follow suit and take on the role of these launchers for recompiled games? After all, every recompiled game I’ve tested (whether on PC or mobile) required a launcher to handle the recompilation process. You couldn't simply open an executable file. You still needed to use your own copy of the game. If emulators served as the "home" for these recompilations, it would significantly streamline the process of enjoying this recompilation trend.
