Mint Mobile - Pros and Cons for US / Bahamas / Cozumel

I've been looking into mobile carriers and data plans for my upcoming contract. I will be in Florida, Cozumel and Nassau.

I looked into local cards like BTC for Bahamas and all the US carriers, but they all seem expensive especially for a foreigner.

Google Fi is excellent, but also expensive for the use case.

I found Mint Mobile and it seems way more affordable.

Does anyone know if Mint Mobile will work in the United States, Bahamas and Mexico?

What should I bring when reporting someone's bank account for fraud at a bank branch?

I was scammed by someone who banks with Capitec and their misrepresentations resulted in me sending money to someone when they lied about their living position. False hospital claims, false family deaths and false suicide attempt to make me give money.

I opened up a case of fraud with SAPS and got a CAS number and a detective assigned.

Can I go into a Capitec branch and report this person for fraud with all my evidence and the CAS number?

What should I bring with me? Should it be thorough enough with screenshots of chats?

What will happen to their account?

Can I request information regarding the account ownership and/or ID number?

Can they recover my money?

Reloading 9mm with Alliant Unique and Lee Dipper

Hey guys!

So I'm slowly getting into reloading some 9mm for my Glock 19, and I've been trying to puzzle something out.

This is what I am using:

  • 9mm Aguila casings (once fired)
  • Fiocchi small pistol primers
  • Alliant Unique smokeless powder
  • 125gr polymer coated round nose bullets

The Lee dies I purchased came with a 0.5cc dipper and a leaflet with some load data.

According to the Lee load data, I can use a single 0.5cc dipper scoop of Unique and that it should yield around 5.1gr.
But when I measure one scoop of Unique I'm getting 3.6gr.

Does anyone know if this sounds correct for a Lee scoop?

Possibly scammed - Need some guidance and advice

Howzit everyone.

I'm looking for some guidance on what my next steps should be before I commit to a lengthy and expensive legal process.

Last year I stupidly loaned around R130,000 over multiple Immediate EFT payments to a female friend of mine.
She had asked for small loans over probably 5 months, and throughout our conversations she repeatedly acknowledged that it was a loan and promised to repay me.

The reason for the loans was because supposedly her parents had unexpectedly passed away and she was alone and scared.
Supposedly one passed locally and the other overseas.
She threatened to end her life at several stages due to financial stress, which put the burden on myself to help her out.
I spoke to SADAG, but they were unable and unwilling to intervene.

The repayment of the loans back to me was initially expected to happen around September 2025. WhatsApp messages confirm this in writing.
I was then told that repayment had been delayed because the money would be coming from her inheritance, and this had supposedly been delayed by the estate attorneys handing the estate.
I was promised that the money would be repaid back to me once the estate had been completed.

Repayment has still not happened. I've tried to reach out to the Estate Firm (they are legit and well known), but they have not returned any of my emails.

Since then I have:

  • Sent a Letter of Demand via Sheriffs, and received the Return of Service.
  • Tried to negotiate a repayment plan via WhatsApp, which ultimately ends up with me being sworn at to leave her alone.
  • Consulted an attorney, who advised that I could absolutely institute action by Combined Summons. But they warned me that once I start, it's going to cost me around R50,000. And more depending on whether she choses to fight it or not.
  • I drafted, sent and asked her to sign an Acknowledgement of Debt (under advice from the Attorney I saw). She declined and said I was harassing her.
  • I compiled all the evidence and opened a SAPS case because I became concerned that some of the representations made to obtain the loan may not have been true. Misrepresentation and Fraud are criminal offences.

My difficulty and worry is this:

Some public information (from social media) I have since seen appears extremely inconsistent with parts of what I was told at the time.
For example, she keeps claiming on having zero money to pay installments back, however she is living in a new expensive luxury place and has the newest MacBook and iPhone.
Another example is that she claims to have lost both parents, but posts about hanging out with them.
However I cannot tell whether there is a genuine explanation or whether I was scammed.

I don't want to bite off more than I can chew if her claims are genuine and she is legitimately in a bad situation.

And before I spend a huge amount of money on attorneys and litigation, is there any lawful way to independently verify whether an estate or inheritance actually exists, or whether the representations made to me were accurate?

I have already checked with the Master's website (https://icmsweb.justice.gov.za/mastersinformation) and can confirm that no recorded deaths around that timeframe are linked with her surname.

  • Can an attorney make enquiries that I can't?
  • Or is this something that can only realistically be investigated once legal proceedings have commenced?

Obviously my goal is not to harass her or start unnecessary litigation if their explanation and grief is genuine.
I simply want to establish whether there is any practical way to verify the key facts before committing to an expensive legal process.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Legal Question: Can I apply for a Substituted Service (digital) if this person is overseas for work, but has a verified WhatsApp number and email address?

Basically as the title says.
I loaned money to a "friend" of mine who has continually promised to pay me back. Then came the inevitable denials and blocking.

A Letter of Demand was issued.

We have gone back to talking and they have promised (out of the goodness of their heart) that they will pay it back as per an agreed instalment plan.

But during this time, they will conveniently be out of the country for work.

If they fail to adhere to the plan, can I get a Summons and apply to serve it digitally to my friend whilst overseas?

Small Claims Court - What actually happens when seeing the Clerk to get a Summons issued?

Howzit guys!

So I need to claim money back from someone who I lent money to and they are not paying me back.
I have already sent out a Letter of Demand.

Would it be a good idea to submit my entire court bundle to the Clerk when visiting for the first time to get a Summons?

Currently, my court bundle is probably 85 pages long, and that includes:

  • Summary of Claim
  • Chronology of Events
  • Particulars of Defendant
  • WhatsApp screenshots
  • Receipts
  • Letter of Demand
  • Proof of Delivery

From what I've read, I was under the assumption that the Clerk only wants to see the Letter of Demand, Proof of Delivery, Defendant Information, Contract/Proof and Summary.

But other people have told me to submit everything from day 1. And this does make sense from a logistics point of view.

And if this is the case, do I need to make multiple copies of my case bundle when speaking to the Clerk?
Or would I only be supplying the extra copies in the actual hearing?

And would having all my documents submitted in a Quotation Folder be okay, considering that each page would need to be hole punched?

How busy does Cape Town Magistrate Court get during the week?

I need to speak with the Clerk of the Small Claims Court to get a Summons issued, and unfortunately Cape Town (Parade Street) is the closest court to where the ordeal occurred.

I've been to Wynberg and that wasn't too bad.
I'm just concerned that because Cape Town Magistrate Court is in the center of Town, that it'll be extremely busy.

I was thinking of going during the week around 11am.

Small Claims Court Advice Needed

Howzit!

So the unfortunate time has come where I need to take someone to small claims over money which was lent and not paid back.
It's under R20k, and is the sum of multiple smaller transfers and loans that happened over around a month.

After reading a bit, I discovered that the first step is drafting and sending a Letter of Demand, which gives them 14 days to pay the money back.

So far I have:

  1. Sent the Letter of Demand via Registered Email using the SAPO eRegistered Mail service (saporeg.co.za). They are apparently court-approved and are treated as the electronic form of traditional registered mail. The delivery certificate shows the letter was delivered and opened.
  2. I sent the same Letter of Demand via WhatsApp, and observed the 2 blue ticks associated with the opening and reading of the message.
  3. During the 14 days, I sent them multiple messages as reminders of the Letter of Demand and the expected repayment timeframe. So I know they were well aware and informed of the Letter and situation.

This person claims to have not received any letter, despite multiple sources confirming a successful delivery.

The reason why I have not done a physical hand delivery of a printed letter is because I don't want to get slapped with stalking or harassment claims.
Sheriff costs around R450 (last time I checked) and so it's not sustainable.
Registered Post is not really possible as this person can easily refuse delivery.

These are my questions and concerns at the moment:

  1. Would the WhatsApp and SAPO Email delivery count as a successful delivery and be accepted by the Court and Clerk?
  2. Can WhatsApp messages and printed receipts be used as the basis of my loan argument? This person claims that because there was no written and signed contract, they are absolved from paying me back.
  3. How long would the waiting time be from visiting the Clerk (to get a summons) to the actual hearing date?
  4. What is the Small Claims hearing experience like?
  5. What documentation do I need to bring with me when visiting the Clerk to open the case and get a Summons? Are we talking stapled pages, or a nice binder?
  6. If this person has already planned a holiday and this court date happens to overlap, what happens? Does the hearing date take preference?

Small Claims Court Jurisdiction Question

Hey guys.

So I am needing to take someone to Small Claims court to recover money that is owed to me.

They lived in Woodstock when all this took place, and the closest Court to both of us was Wynberg Magistrate Court (central to both of us).

But this person has just moved away to Muizenberg, so their closest court is now Simon's Town.
But my closest is still Wynberg.

So there is my dilemma:

  1. Do I go to MY closest Court?
  2. Do I go to THEIR current closest Court?
  3. Do I go to the Court closest to where this incident occurred?

Howzit guys.

I need to take someone to Small Claims Court as they have borrowed money, not paid it back, blocked me and run away to Namibia.

The Letter of Demand I can still send via eRegistered Post, Registered Post and eMail.

But how does the Summons work if he is over the boarder?

Does the case hit a wall until he returns home?
Do they just serve at his primary South African address?
