I’m off work for a month with an injury. What do I do?

I sprained my ankle at work. I’m off work for at least a month and I’m going to go crazy with boredom soon. I’m already day 4 of no work (6 days consecutive with the weekend). My face dropped when the dr told me I’d be off for at least a month. I work construction, I’m hoping my company can bring me into the office so I have something to do at least.

Need suggestions on what I can do to pass the time. I’ll be going to physical therapy 3x a week. Going to the gym and doing what I can within reason.

What do people do during the week during the 9-5 if they’re not at work?

My mom called

My mom just called. I haven’t talked to her in about a year and before that I hadn’t spoken to her since 2019. I tried seeing if we could have a relationship again last year but it didn’t feel like it could be productive, so I stopped reaching out.

My mom started having strokes in 2014. She’d have a stroke instead of her menstrual cycle. And then just kept having TBIs, etc.

On the phone, she sounded absolutely terrible. She can’t complete a word without stuttering anymore. I started crying out of guilt? anxiety? I answered because she never calls so I figured something was wrong.

She said, “So, I heard you have a new life? A new girlfriend?” (she is referring to my soon to be ex wife, which means her memory is probably going back when I last talked to her, she knew all about my girlfriend and stepdaughter) and I said, “no, we broke up”. She asked why, I told her it just didn’t work out.

She asked what I had been up to, I told her that I’ve been working and hanging out with friends.

Then she kept saying how she didn’t expect me to answer her phone call. I kept being quiet. What was there to say? I only answered because I thought someone died? That there was an emergency? She asked if I talk to anyone in the family. I was silent again, she said “no.. I didn’t think so”. She sounded really sad when she said it.

She told me about how much she misses me. She started crying and saying, “God, I miss you so much my baby”. I didn’t say anything, she started crying harder and saying “oh…but you don’t miss me”. and then she said she’d let me go and i said bye and hung up.

My first instinct was to call my ex wife. No one in my life really knows the severity of the abuse I got growing up or understands it. My ex wife was a major part of my life growing up and when everything was happening.

I feel so guilty because I don’t miss my mom, I miss and grieve having a mom. My mom was never a mother. I called my dad and he said just to not get sucked into her, that she created the life she has because of who she is and we’ve put up with her enough

But there’s also that little bit of hope in me, that I wish she would be the mom I need, the mom I needed.

She said she is having more strokes in her sleep and I don’t know. I don’t want a relationship with her because she is the literal devil, but I also feel this immense guilt that if she dies or something, I should’ve been there.

I don’t know. I guess I’m just venting and telling people who get it.

The coolest experience of my life. I can't describe it other than, SO COOL.

My day started off going to concentra because I sprained my ankle pretty bad at work. I got a brace, chilled out for a bit with ice, and then - I did a tandem jump today, it was my first time ever. It was indescribable. The coolest experience of my life. The instructor was super cool, the videographer was super cool. I went by myself and went up to 14k, the rest of the plane were all solo jumpers. It felt like such a cool community. Everyone doing a handshake, laughing with each other. Everyone seemed so easy going. I had wanted to go skydiving for over 10 years and I just never did.

I've never been on such a small airplane, that was awesome. The view going up was so cool. The free fall was by far the coolest part, falling so fast. It really is so indescribable how it felt. I'm so glad I went with a 14k jump over a 9k jump. The free fall though!!!! GOD!!!! It was just the best experience of my life. I had a smile the whole time. It was so cool to feel the wind everywhere. I was nervous I was going to hesitate when I was at the door, but the instructor was great - I didn't even hear him count down, we were just at the edge. I thought, "oh, fuck". Then we were out of the plane, we did a flip, and we were belly to the earth falling. It was so freaking cool. I wanted to go right back up.

The parachute part was cool, it was fine. It did get a little boring. I live in the midwest, so although the view is dope, it's just a lot of farm land. But I did soak it all in. It was so nice to just be chilling up there, I wasn't panicked like I thought I was going to be. I didn't think about any of the gear failing... I just was existing and having so much fun. I sent the video to all my videos of course, they all said how happy I looked. And that is truly how I felt. I felt so happy. It was so cool.

The instructor asked if I was going to get my AFF, and then I looked into it.

It's August in the midwest, obviously the adrenaline and high from jumping I'm like, "FUCK YEAH, SIGH ME UP". But, I've read that a lot of people don't complete their AFF or end up quitting skydiving because they get bored of it. I am a hobby hopper for sure. The logical part of me says to put a reminder in my phone for March when the place opens back up and then I decide if I want to commit to it. I think it would be so cool to say I have my skydiving license even if I do never go back to it after the 25th jump.

The high I feel though......I should go get my AFF within 2 weeks.

Anyway, just wanted to share!!! Such a cool ass experience and something I will cherish forever!!

so many people are excited to see me and i’m dreading it.

i’m taking a trip back “home” this weekend. i moved states to be with my ex-wife. i haven’t visited home in over 2 years. i’ve had this trip planned since early April and i am just not looking forward to it.

all i want to do is go to sleep. i come home from work, get in bed, and sleep.

i know my depression is really bad because of this. i don’t want to go, at all. it all feels like so much. the drive to the airport, go through security, go to my hotel, i’m meeting a friend for dinner.

i’ve gotten so many texts about making plans, i don’t even know how to juggle them all. i have about ten people coming to watch me play in a tournament just because they want to see me and i don’t have enough days in the weekend to see them all for dinner. specifically, i have 2 friends traveling 2.5h and they’re going to spend all day saturday with me.

i’m playing with 5-6 people on my team who have texted me so many times about how excited they are to see me.

i’m seeing my best friend that i haven’t seen in over a year and we’re doing our favorite pastime: happy hour at applebees. i should be so excited and i am just not.

and yet, i am still so depressed. i feel so guilty that all these people want to see me and all i want to do is crawl into bed. i wish i was exaggerating on the number of people who want to make plans. it is so overwhelming, i’ve been crying the last 3 days because of it. all these people care and love me so much and all i want to do is die.

tldr; too many ppl care about me and im crying about it. poor me. /s

Has anyone transferred locals as an apprentice?

What was your experience like?

I moved to Michigan from Boston in 2024 for my now ex-wife. I am from the Boston area. I loved my life in Boston and all my friends are there.

I am heavily considering moving back there and am wondering if anyone has had experience transferring locals? Was it hard? Should I just reapply to the Boston local? I am going to be completing my first year as a sprinklerfitter in September.

Everything I’ve read online is that people should stick it out, wait until they turn out before they transfer. I’m not sure if I can mentally handle another 4 years here.

Who are you outside of Student Affairs?

I (29f) left residence life in 2024. I didn't realize how much of my identity was surrounded by it. I switched into a logistics role, which a lot of people still "needed" me. I've been working in construction for almost a year now, and I didn't realize how much of a deep depression I sank into. My partner (30f) and I separated 4 months ago and last week, my therapist told me to think about who I am outside of the relationship and be ready to talk for the next session. The thing is, I don't know? I realized it's more than just not being in this relationship that I don't know who I am.

I know the things I like to do, but who am I? I realized I'm having an identity crisis and I don't think it has anything to do with not being in a relationship anymore. I realized my whole adult life has been around student affairs. I knew I wanted to get into residence life at the end of my freshman year of college. I did everything student affairs related. I juggled so many clubs and e-board positions. I jumped right into grad school, right into residence life. I thought I would be a reslifer for life. But, covid hit, and I just got so burnt out. Any time a parent was upset, I was in tears. I was so worked up over the toxic politics surrounding student affairs.

I am generally happier. I have more money and more time, but I don't know who I am. Has anyone had this experience?

All of my community was tied to where I was working, even all the volunteering I did. I would do things outside of my job as well, of course, but we all know how many hours we have to put in.

I have no intentions of going back to education. I am in a union with great benefits, hours, and physical health.

My foreman from me candy today

I have a hate love relationship with my foreman. Some days I hate him so badly and other days he’s the coolest guy around.

He’s been so supportive during my divorce and my ex wife cheating.

The first couple months I absolutely hated working with him. I dreaded going to work. But I had to push through to support my family. I felt miserable.

Now, I’ve been working with him 5-6 months and I DREAD going with other foreman.

Today, my foreman brought me tootsie rolls. He stopped at the supply shop beforehand, he knows I love them. He picked me up some. As I was organizing our cart for the day, I saw them. I thought it was really sweet.

Edit: I meant to say gave, lmao.

I’m (29F) struggling letting my wife (30F) go. I don’t understand why she doesn’t want to be with me anymore.

My wife and I got married December 2025. Two months ago, we separated. It came to a shock to me. She never told me that she was unhappy in the relationship. I always asked if she was sure and happy. It was a very emotional separation, we cried a lot. She said she wanted to find herself and didn’t want the responsibility of a relationship. She said she wanted to go to therapy and work on herself. She did and is still going (I think) to therapy. She told me there isn’t anything I could’ve done different, that I’m a great person, the love of her life & she could never see herself dating anyone else after me. I wish I knew why she didn’t want to be with me anymore.

Three weeks later, she’s moved on. I found out last week. I’m still having such a hard time letting her go. She won’t talk to me anything to do with feelings at all. If I bring up any kind of feelings talk, she ignores me.

I wish I had the closure of why she doesn’t want to be with me. I would do anything to save my marriage. My wife is my best friend, the love of my life. She is a wonderful person and so fun to be around. I want to do anything possible to save my marriage and it feels like there’s nothing I can do.

I’m left feeling empty, like nothing. Like the time we spent together really didn’t mean anything to her. Two weeks before the separation, she had told me I’m the most important person in her life. Now, I’m left feeling like I meant nothing to her and she won’t talk or see me. I don’t know how to let her go.
