AITC For not Fixing my Attitude

Hello peasants, my name is Cricket (6F) I am a distinguished chicken. My breed is a salmon favorelle. Very important piece of information. My mother has the audacity to tell me I am very rude that I don’t share the treats with my sisters. My mother got mad at me for screaming like “an aggressive minecraft villager” because she was 5 seconds too late to feed me. How day she call me that! My noises are beautiful! I could have starved to death in five seconds!

I overheard her hooman friend say I am very entitled hen. But I think that hooman is very biased because I started I fight with her favorite my sister Sunny (1 F). It was Sunny’s fault for getting my way! Also that hooman friend don’t like me anyway because I hit her in the face with my wing when she picked me up! I am a salmon faverolle! I must be picked up by certain way. I feel like it is my birthright to have the most treats when I want and do whatever I want. I have beautiful feathers more beautiful than my other sister. I am very special. I have five toes when all my sisters only have four. I also lay very beautiful pink eggs. I am proud of who I am. I don’t think I need to change for other people despite what my mommy says.

Did I mention I am a salmon favorelle? Anyways AITC?

BRUH

I accidently didn’t close my sunroom/ green house area properly while the girls are free ranging. You have to twist the knob three times if you don’t twist it all the way the door will come loose. But look what I found on top of the dragonfruit plant. she has nesting boxes. Heck even the cardboard box that she insists that hers. So many options, but she picks this. Second photo shows the culprit. 😂

Elderly Chicken

My oldest hen is Pepper she’s around 9- 10 years old. She’s was flock leader. she was very friendly didn’t mind being old, but sometimes kind of a jerk. She loves to steal food. I got her when she was an adult and I had her for a few years now. The funny story was that she was not expected to survive the winter when I got her because she was already an old gal (7 years old), but she survived far longer than was expected. I noticed recently that she’s been slowing down. she still eats and waddles around and forage. She’s still very active and still does her funny little fat chicken run when I bring out treats. But she does like to sit down a lot more. But I think the reality is that I may not have another winter with her.

I don’t know how much I have with her left. I won’t give up on her. I am currently focusing on supportive care that was actually the best thing I can do. She’s not in any pain just old. Everyday I make sure she gets special treats and extra attention. She’s also been sitting on my lap more, which means not something she typically does a lot. I like to think it’s her way of her saying it’s time for goodbye soon. My favorite hen (Cinnamon)’s death emotionally wrecked me. Talking about death and the reality like this feels like is a way to help me cope when Pepper is gone. Having a community to talk about this too will probably help me manage my grief better. Pepper I don’t know how much time I have left with you, but I will cherish them.

My Sweet Missy and Sheldon

A little heartwarming post about my leghorns. 🩷🩷 I have two leghorns Missy and Sheldon, noticed they don’t act like what I expected leghorns to act like. everybody who I know owns leghorns say they are flighty. And when I got these girls, that’s what I expected as well. I didn’t really mind because I already had some Easter eggers with great personalities and I like having some good egg layers into the flock. And even people I know who have handled white leghorns ask chicks say they’re not the most friendly. So I had 3 girls Georgie, Missy and Sheldon they were a little under a year-old and was starting to lay. My biggest concern was that what should I do about them flying at first since their wings weren’t cut. but I noticed how particularly well-behaved they were because one time I accidentally left the coop door open and they just stayed in my yard. They don’t ever leave the yard. When I let them out and do their business in my backyard I started supervising them at first to see if they would fly away, which they never did. I have friends that tell me that they have issues with their leg horns liking to fly onto the roofs of their house. Or unfortunate cases where they’ve flown into the neighbors yards.

But my girls never did that so I’ll count my lucky stars. I’m able to let them free range outside unsupervised because I live in what I call “ the Goldilocks area” aka I got really extremely lucky where I live. I have a huge backyard and no hawks or any predator come near my area because it’s not really in the country. don’t worry the coop is predator proofed just to be safe when they go indoors my dad made sure of it. But back to my leghorns at first, they acted like regular leg horns wanted nothing to do with me, which I didn’t mind. I just collected my eggs and fed them. Then Georgie started following me around and she would eat for my hands then miss you and Sheldon start doing the same thing. They followed me around and ate for my hands.

Unfortunately Georgie passed away from Coccidiosis. Me being a newbie chicken owner I didn’t catch it in time. She was the sweetest out of the 3 leghorns. Then Missy got Coccidiosis I was able to treat her with my learned knowledge and save her life. But that’s when I started noticing more of a change in my leghorns behavior. They started to follow me more. I’ll sometimes just sit in my backyard enjoying the day and they’ll just waddle up to me and just sit next to me or just peck me for food. Funnily enough despite being an egg production breed I’ve caught them becoming more broody than some of my other hens. They even go more broody then my buff orpington.

Fast forward today I had them for a couple of years now. They also gotten more demanding, my leghorns are always the first to greet me. Sheldon and Missy will purposely get and front of me or step on me feet if they want attention. They love to be hand feed will get too excited and peck my hands. Sheldon in particular likes to try to groom and clean me with her beak. Which is funny to watch. My mom was Missy does the cutest little run with her wings flapping out for treats. They are such affectionate sweet girls. When my favorite hen Cinnamon died and I sat next to her body to say my goodbyes. Sheldon jump on my lap and just sat there while Missy sat next to me. Idk if it’s just a coincidence or I’m just trying to humanize my leghorns too much, but it was a good comfort. It was strange since both girls don’t mind to be picked up and will just chill in my arms. They were never lap chickens I like to think it was their way of comforting me.

I hope they stay with me for a very long time. After they are gone, I don’t know if I will get any more white leg horns. I do like that they’re very hearty and are good egg layers. It just that Missy and Sheldon had such wonderful personalities that kind of raised my standards. I know every chicken is different. But anyways thank for listening about me ramble about how adorable my leghorns are.

My Salmon faverolle Cricket is recovering from wry neck. she made great progress in recovery! As a congratulation, I gave her a little treat. She got super excited to eat because she it’s her favorite. I took a video of her getting too excited and I noticed if you freeze a couple frames, there are some funny shots. 😂😂 I promise you she’s okay she’s always been a drama queen when it comes to food.

Could anyone guess what kind of what kind of ancestry does my easter eggers have? No right or wrong answers. Since I have no way of confirming. Just curious what everyone thinks.

I got theese gals when they were 1 year old from my sister’s friend (the breeder). Sister no longer has the information card on their ancestry. But here is the information what we have from what she remembers. As well as their appearance

  1. Confirmed to have leghorn and Araucana ancestry
  2. Eggs very from pinkish to medium brown.
  3. Very good egg layers they lay almost every day.
  4. Both girls Juniper (white speckled ) and Charlotte (brown speckled) came

from

  1. same mama (idk what breed though).

  2. Both ladies have blue grey feet and have nearly identical feather patterns albeit in different colors.

No info on the father though I don’t even know if they have the same father or even came from the same batch I know they’re around the same age. Again this is just for fun. I’m just curious what people think.

Charlotte laid a lash egg today. it’s the first time it’s ever happened. She was laying normally yesterday. She is still is active. Charlotte is drinking and eating normally. Her comb still bright and red. I booked an appointment for the vet tomorrow, and quarantined her. But in the meantime, what should I do for her?
