Is this unverified vintage/antique ring worth taking a chance on?

Hi everyone,

I’d really appreciate some advice on a ring I’m considering buying.

I have a very tight budget, but I’d like to buy myself one nice ring. I have two options:

Option 1: A newer 18k gold ring with clear, recognizable 750 and eagle-head hallmarks. The gold would be easy for me to verify, but the stones are cubic zirconia.

Option 2: This ring, which I absolutely love. To me, it looks like it could be a vintage-to-antique gypsy/scroll ring, possibly Victorian or Edwardian, although it could obviously be later. It has visible wear and what appear to be rubies and diamonds.

The problem is that there is very little information about it.

I asked the seller for clearer photos of the hallmarks. She genuinely tried, but the marks are still difficult to make out.I can identify what looks like one long, thin rectangular mark (which I did find on other antique rings online at a similar spot), with two smaller marks next to it. I can't determine from other pictures if there are any other hallmarks since it's too blurry.

The seller isn't particularly knowledgeable about jewellery and doesn't know whether it's 18k, 15k, 14k, 10k, 9k, etc., or what the ring weighs. She simply describes it as "old gold."

She did have it looked at by a jeweller, who apparently gave her a verbal valuation of around €900–1,000 and identified the stones as diamonds and rubies. She didn't get a written appraisal because she was quoted around €150 for the formal paperwork/testing due to a lack of funds.

There is also a potentially interesting detail: the ring comes in a box marked “Walter Bedford, 55 Victoria Street, Belfast.” Walter Bedford appears to have been a legitimate Belfast jeweller, although I have no way of knowing whether this is actually the original box for the ring. I also haven't been able to find an exact match for the ring through reverse-image searching.

So I'm trying to decide whether this is worth taking a chance on. If this turned out to be an 18k vintage/antique ring with genuine rubies and diamonds, I'd much rather have this than the newer CZ ring. It has far more character and potentially some history. But I also don't want to spend most of my savings on something that turns out to be a lower-karat modern ring with synthetic stones.

For those familiar with British/Irish jewellery and antique rings, does anything about this ring, its construction, possible hallmark, or the Walter Bedford box give you enough information to think it's worth taking the risk?

Any observations about the likely age, gold purity, stones, or provenance would be greatly appreciated. I understand that nobody can authenticate it definitively from photos alone; I'm mainly trying to make the most informed decision possible before spending the money.

Thank you!

Safest international delivery service for official paperwork?

I need to send some important original documents to Germany for translation, including my BAC diploma, university diploma, etc.

I was initially planning to use DHL, but I’ve seen a few people mention documents getting lost, which has made me a bit hesitant given how important the originals are.

Another option I’ve seen people use is EMS. It’s also considerably cheaper than DHL, so I’m currently leaning towards that, but I’m still a bit unsure about which service would be safest/reliable for something like this.

Has anyone here had experience sending important original documents from Algeria to Germany? Would you recommend EMS, DHL, or another service?

Algeria Hajj online registration question

I'm registering my parents for the Algerian Hajj lottery (1448H / 2027) and I'm confused about one part of the form.

There is a section for previous registrations:

  • عدد التسجيلات السابقة
  • السنة

Last year I registered them in 2025 for Hajj 2026, and this year I'm registering again.

For the "year" (السنة) field, I entered 2025 because I understood it to mean the year of registration, not the Hajj season (2026), but now I'm having doubt whether that was a mistake. I tried looking on Hajj facebook groups for answers but there seems to be no clear answer.

Does anyone have a clue about whether "السنة" refers to the registration year or the Hajj season?

I've found a youtube comment that was asking about a similar mistake and they were told by someone else that it wasn't a big mistake, meaning they don't need to correct it.

Recommendation for budget earbuds

I used to have Soundcore life P3, the quality is great, especially the build, but too many quality control issues. I bought the Soundpeats T3 pro, they work well, but I find myself constantly charging the box, and the build is very light weight, doesn't feel good quality.

Back in the day I have used the QCY T2C and honestly they were great, they are outdated so I'm on the fence about buying another.

Basically I'm looking for recommendation for good ones in the Algerian market (stemless preferably, but I'm flexible)

Price range ideally 3000-4000, but I can go up to 6000 if needed.

Brand doesn't matter

I feel like I always end up the one putting in effort in friendships and I’m starting to resent it

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I honestly just need outside perspective.

I’m someone who naturally invests a lot in people I care about. If I consider you a friend, I’ll initiate, plan things, give gifts, remember details, and put effort into maintaining the connection. It’s not forced, it’s just how I show care.

What I’ve noticed is a pattern in most of my friendships: the first few years usually feel fine. There’s reciprocity, effort from both sides, consistency. I don’t feel like I’m carrying everything alone at that stage.

But over time, things shift. And because I’ve already invested a lot emotionally and practically by then, I tend to keep the same level of effort (despite my failed attempts at matching their effort, but that's just not me, I can't help it) while the other person slowly becomes more passive. They initiate less, plan less, and the relationship starts feeling one-sided from my perspective.

So I end up in this situation where I’ve already invested deeply into the friendship, but I’m also the one maintaining it long-term. And that creates a lot of frustration, resentment and lately even rage in me, which I hate.

Recently it became more obvious with my only two "real" friendships 'one i've known for 7 years, the other for 23) , and I started questioning everything. I don’t want to become someone who keeps score or becomes cold, but I also don’t want to keep feeling like I care significantly more than I’m cared for.

Another fear I have is that if I try to stop over-investing or pull back completely, I might end up with no friends at all, and honestly, even now it already feels like I don’t really feel like I have meaningful connections.

I’m trying to understand:

  • Is this a pattern I’m creating by investing too much early on?
  • Do friendships naturally become like this over time?
  • Or am I just repeatedly ending up with people who are low effort in maintaining relationships?

I don’t want to stop being someone who invests in people, but I also don’t want to keep ending up in dynamics that leave me resentful or emotionally drained.

Has anyone experienced this? How do you balance caring deeply without over-giving or ending up alone?

Looking for older Cdramas that were subbed more recently

https://preview.redd.it/vcrqp1zq303h1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9f09ea00a0928c28ebe278e3a28de7cce9887df

I recently watched Empresses in the Palace and it made me interested in older Cdramas that either got subtitles later on or became easier to watch more recently.

I’m especially interested in dramas with strong atmosphere, good character writing, political intrigue, palace/harem dynamics, or emotionally intense storytelling. But I also enjoy more feel-good or low-stress dramas with beautiful cinematography and aesthetics.

I tend to gravitate more toward costume, historical, or xianxia dramas, but I’m open to modern dramas or other settings/timelines as well if they’re well done.

I don’t mind slower pacing and long dramas if the story is worth it.

What are some older Cdramas you would recommend that are now available with decent subtitles or easier to access than they used to be?

I’d also love to hear people’s opinions on which older dramas still hold up really well today.

Lookinf for lab for honey analysis

^(I know someone who lives in the moutainous Aures area who's raising bees. He sent me some honey, from what I could gather, it looks like Acacia honey. He was wondering if I can help him sell some, the thing is, people only acknowledge things that are very viscous and dark as honey, I've even had someone tell me I've been scammed. This particular type is known to be very light in color, and liquidy due to the high fructose content. Besides anyone with some logic would know that there are hundreds of types of honey in this world.)

^(I trust this person very much, so I have no doubt it's real honey. I was wondering if there were any labs that could do an analysis so I have proof and if anyone could provide an idea on how much it would cost me.)

Hi everyone,

I was planning to buy an 18K gold ring I found on Etsy (first picture), but it sold before I could get it.

I then found a very similar ring (second picture) on a local second-hand site. The seller claims it’s 18K gold and says she originally bought it from a well-known jewelry retailer a few years ago (a brand I recognise).

The listing is actually very detailed, with around 10+ photos, and the seller looks experienced (she has positive reviews and other 18K gold rings listed, some of which seem to match similar styles/sizes). All prices are fair and follow a similar pattern.

The only issue is that the hallmark/markings on the ring (3rd picture) are very blurry and hard to read. It looks like there might be stamps, but I can’t clearly make them out (could be 750 or a maker’s mark, but not sure).

I’m trying to decide if I should just go for it since it's something I liked

Thanks in advance 🙏
