Ideal EA Interview Options: In Person or On Zoom?

I have made it to the second round for an Executive Assistant position. I would be working alongside an Office Manager/Marketer. She's having the second interview and suggested it would be great to chat in person and show me around. I am of two minds. I would like to meet her and the office to get a feel for them. On the other hand, I would like to wait until the final group interview to meet and greet to avoid getting emotionally involved too soon.

Is there some conventional wisdom on whether it is ideal to interview in person vs virtually?

Bruh...I Just Saw a Profile Pic of a Man

touching himself! Who does that?! He had 7 normal pictures and then a bomb on the final pic. He took the selfie in his mirror. OMG I had to laugh at the desperation and degeneracy of it all. If there weren't rules, I'd post it but I'm sure you guys can imagine. Is this how 54 year old men are doing it on the apps these days?

How Do You Handle Roommate Wearing Google Spy Glasses in the House?!

I just had a concerning interaction with a roommate. I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. My next door roommate and I are home at the same time about once a week. Often she will come down to chat or knock on my door to chat. Days ago she knocked on my door to chat and I didn't answer.

I'm doing a polite fade. One Reason: She ran into me in the kitchen weeks ago and dragged the conversation out. She followed me to my room and walked thee f into my room without being invited. I didn't like that & quickly ended the conversation so I could eat in peace and privacy. She left. I didn't care for her invasive sense of entitlement. Given the look on my face I felt she was playing stupid as if she was unaware I had a consistent boundary.

Today I was chatting with her and she asked me repeatedly about my job. It was more than politeness. It came off like intrusiveness and refusing to mind her business. I turned away to wash a dish and turned back and her glasses had a light shining out of them! This b*tch had Google glasses on in the house and was apparently trying to take a picture or video of me while asking intrusive questions.

Another roommate happened to walk into the room and I turned to her and asked how she feels about a roomie walking around the house with these glasses taking pictures, recording and researching other roommates. The GoogleGlassGirl started hemming and hawing and deflecting and minimizing. I am frightened at what this psycho plans to do with the footage she takes on the sneak. These days you can take people's image and voice and create porn, call their bank to defraud them. Or create a profile and set them up for criminal/mischief.... I can't believe I have to dealwith this lowlife situation.

Are Cover Letters a Must or a Bust?

I am applying for a new position after the debacle in the Executive Suite posted about here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ExecutiveAssistants/comments/1v4y42h/

I am sending resumés on Greenhouse and after submitting 10 I noticed they don't explicitly ask for a Cover Letter but...there is a button to upload. Now I'm wondering, should I submit one or is it not really expected? All of the other questions, they ask directly but none seem to insist on it.

Is HR Demand for an Original Copy of My Degree Excessive?

I'm in the midst of an epically long onboarding process. I'm in the home stretch of page 20. I just spoke with HR and they have an odd request I've never seen before. They want me to bring them my original degree. I just moved here from another state and all of my original Certs and Degree are in storage.

I find the request especially galling since I have gone through fingerprinting, a nationwide background check for education and criminal background as well as supplied a ton of other identification and paperwork. All of this is for a very important position that only pays $16 and hour. I am gobsmacked.

A transcript, I could understand but my original degree? So is this normal or oddly specific request on their part?

ETA: Today I submitted my TB test and asked if the HR person preferred my diploma be sent directly to her or if I had to forward it. She gets tight, cuts me off, then fires down a list if 5 things that haven't been done and declares she's calling the Manager to see if she 'wants' to proceed. She says 'Wait for an email!"

They rescinded the offer. Whew! Bullet dodged. I just dropped 1 resumés with companies that pay a living wage! Huzzah!

When DO you Disclose Your Age?

Hey y'all, I'm in an unusual situation. I normally date older guys but out of the blue I met this unicorn, younger guy. We work together and he asked me to lunch. I thought it was a colleague kinda thing. I usually pack my lunch so I just suggested we hang out in the office kitchen and chop it up (talk). We did that a number of times and hit it off.

Two months later I get that he wants to switch up and go in a different dating direction out in the wild. That's cool, I don't want coworkers scrutinizing our every move but I'm wondering if/when I should come out to him as NOT a Millennial. I look like I'm in his age range (mid 30s) but I'm actually a Gen Xer. Is there an ettiquette for this kind of thing?

For the first time I feel like it might be a good idea to wait and see before bringing it up because people have all kinds of negative, hateful attitudes about age. I'm fit, feminine, and friendly not creaky, cranky, and brolic! People in the office have made ageist jokes and I laugh because a good joke is a good joke but it also reveals prejudices and apparently they think people over 40 are living in some dreadful life they've fantasized. Awkward! What say you, GenXers?

New EA Lost Promotion Opportunity for Interrupting Meeting

I just came home from a day that went very well until it hit a wall and crashed. I work at a firm that is understaffed. I had 3 days of training and was told to just ask my boss to show me whatever I needed. This sounded fine in theory but the reality is that she's deeply resentful of being interrupted for questions/feedback. She's vindictive and does not let things go. There is a trail of EAs before me who've been railroaded out by her.

Today I had a challenging situation. There was a multihour meeting in the conference room. We've had issues with the plumbing and a serviceman had been busy then booked twice to fix things. A rebooking meant weeks of delay. A repairman strolls in saying he was present to fix the sink in the conference room. The guy who normally runs point on repairs was not in. And once I pointed out that the meeting was in progress, the repairman was threatening to leave rather than stay potentially for hours.

I knew my supervisor moved mountains to get him there and had countless delays. So I decided to try to smooth things over by popping my head in to quietly alert him and get guidance on whether to let the guy leave or what. Instead my supe hit the wall, got angry with me for sticking my head in to alert him, then immediately took me out of contention for a promotion.

Is this a normal response to a brief interruption of a meeting or was the Supervisor just jumping on an excuse to take me out? How would you suggest I smooth out a situation like that?

Go To Manager Irritated by the Reality of Constant Questions

I just realized that I have an issue with my Team Lead. I loved her laughter and sunny irreverence the first few weeks. But now I'm asking for guidance and being met with a stormy face and kicking the can down the road. I'm not thrilled about not getting my work done properly. I'm even less thrilled with being blamed if deadlines are not met.

I've tried approaching with a smile, with a gentle tone, with seriousness. Nothing has really shifted the dynamic. Does anyone have suggestions on how to smoolth things over with a Lead who has structured herself as the go-to person, then gets irritated when I repeatedly go to her throughout the day?

Independent Contractor Who Can't Prove Income

I sent the State bank statements to show what I have been paid and by whom for the last 30 days. I also sent a screenshot of my work portal so they can match the amounts. I thought this definitively showed how much money I have and who paid it to me. Now the caseworker is saying they need to see an invoice with my name written on it and the pre and post tax amount. !! Wut? It feels like the goal posts are being moved arbitrarily.

The company I work for used to give proper checks and paystubs but hasn't for a year. I uploaded my W-9 to establish the employment relationship but there is no possible screenshot with my name AND my pay. Anybody have advice on how to proceed.

My "Missing Money" is Back Awaiting Payout...I am Confusion

Guys, I just breezed past the HAI Payment page and was confused to see the money they took last week added back into my payout for this week. This is so bizarre. These people claimed my work quality went down. They claimed I was a time thief all while I got multiple 4.0 QA scores and two invitations to other projects.

I don't know what to make of this foolery. I was so turned off that I immediately stopped tasking, sent out resumes; had a very hopeful interview today and another scheduled for Monday. I'm in the midst of onboarding for other projects on another site.

I've alerted the media and made my financial injuries known to the business community. I could never trust them again. I hope the $80 they stole was worth their increasingly tattered reputation. I'm not even sure I have a question. I'm so disgusted that I had to share.
