44 sandwich

Whilst I’m really happy for all those that are excited about the new 42 luminors and I was close to pulling the trigger on one, the experience only made me appreciate my classic 44 with sandwich dial even more. Glad there’s something for everyone

Sunday lunch at the chalet

Found this piece just after its release at the crans Montana boutique. Felt like the perfect remote chalet watch: many many straps and 3 fxds later, that’s what’s started the fxd love and its still my favourite chalet watch

Blair Athol

The last of my 5 in Scotland: a nice finish too with excellent value scotch and a nice departure from the peaty island stuff

Loch Bay (*)

So antithetical to Heron in its Michelin approach; middle of nowhere in the isle of Skye. Exceptional local seafood. Excellent French wine pairing. Very, very old school French techniques from the mother sauces to the bouillabaisse, with twists like adding Chanterelles to the lobster and monkfish, using fennel as a palate cleanser between the raw and cooked scallops. Just perfection and a homely brasserie feel

Talisker

Not my favourite whisky but my favourite tour and Lancashire tour guide

Gilles Varone, Saviese

By a long shot, the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. Every time. Remote location. Impeccable service to the level of attention of scary anticipation (called a friend to wish him a happy birthday, ended up with a cake). And the head chef puts a final touch in every dish. Local ingredients. Texture and flavour levels unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Will take this over Noma every day. And having a chalet nearby helps me coming back. This was his venison autumn menu.

Straum in Scotland

Glencoe feels like the perfect backdrop for this watch. The shifting Highland light brings the textured green dial to life in a way that photos never quite capture. It almost feels as though the landscape and the dial were made for each other.
Which makes the ownership experience all the more disheartening. For over three weeks I’ve been trying to resolve outstanding refunds for items I never received, while also asking about the advertised “special price” for the titanium bracelet. Multiple follow-ups have been met with complete radio silence. At this point I don’t even want the bracelet anymore—I just want the refunds processed.
Such a shame, because the watch itself is genuinely exceptional.

Oban

I always found Oban to be a bit salty for my taste. Yet, here, in Oban, by the sea, it works beautifully. Brilliant distillery, friendly staff and gorgeous expressions you can’t get elsewhere.
