I asked my potential employer in Vietnam about the contracted work hours at 8-12 on Saturdays. Do we think 4-5 times a school year is really accurate? I’m fine with more, I’m just hoping it’s less than half the Saturdays. Here‘s their quoted response:
“All of our teachers work on full-time contracts with working hours from 8:00 to 17:30 Monday through Friday and from 8:00 to 12:00 on Saturday morning. Saturday morning is in our contracted working hours although we have no teaching hours scheduled during that time. It is mainly in the contract for the purpose of parents’ meetings which occur twice a year in late December / early January and again in May, these will generally fall on Saturday mornings for the convenience of parents and schools. There are also usually one or two Personal Development Workshops that are also held on Saturday mornings during the school year. Aside from these events teachers are not required to attend the office on Saturday mornings unless requested, on average teachers would work around 4 or 5 Saturdays over the course of a school year.”
