Freddy vs. Jason hidden?

I don't know if there's any other titles like this, but Freddy vs. Jason was supposed to drop on the app on the 1st. According to searches on Roku, & even a listing on Hulu if you have the Disney+ & Hulu bundle, it IS on there, but you can't see it on the actual solo app. If you find it on Roku or watch it through the Hulu bundle you can watch it, but not the app itself.

I guess this is a glitch?

Part 3 is the superior Steve Miner film + sequel to the original, & here's why....IMO

Now, I'll preface this by saying I don't hate Part 2 or consider it a "bad" entry in the franchise.

But...I'm not a sackhead Jason guy. Nor do I care for how it is virtually the same movie as Part 1, just directed slightly more impressively (according to some people). If people prefer it to the original, that's fine.

That being said...I think it actually works better to go straight to Part 3 after the original film.

  1. Better debut for Jason. As I said, not a sackhead fan, & I think Part 3's Jason looks more like an adult version of the Jason seen in flashback/at the end of the original. If we treat the ending of Part 2 (seen again at the start of Part 3) like a prologue similar to the murder of Barry & Claudette, I think it takes the most iconic scene of Part 2 & turns it into a launchpad from where we were teased with Jason being "still there" at the Lake at the end of the original.

It throws us into the action of Jason being back, & also eliminates the inconsistency of his make-up seen in the jump scare from the end of Part 2 to what we see in Part 3. Ginny & Paul are now just two people at the Lake running afoul of Jason running amok, & we still get the sackhead for a little bit.

  1. Doesn't repeat itself, setting & scenario-wise. By having Jason stalk somewhere else besides a campground, it gives us a new location to go to for a sequel. Plus, it helps alleviate the stereotype that Friday films are always repeating the same premise over & over again, thereby making the would-be victims look incredibly stupid.

If Jason's reign of terror gradually spreads out away from "Camp Blood", it becomes harder to ignore, which feeds into the development of later sequels (Jason Lives showing the attempted renaming of the town & Lake, or JGTH's FBI sting operation)

  1. Different Final Girl motivation. Instead of camp counselors (some, like Alice, not even wanting to be there) trying in vain to reopen a "cursed" summer camp, Part 3 shows us other residents of the Lake encountering the "evil" of the Voorhees family, making the sins of the 1957 incident have wider repercussions. Chris is just a girl living on the lake with her parents whose whole life is changed after encountering Jason in the woods. Together with the location change-up, it opens the world of the franchise up a little more.

  2. Fun little inverse moments from the original. Rick wearing a blue sweater, Debbie being stabbed from underneath, Pamela's corpse leaping out of the Lake instead of Jason's, etc. Sure, nods to the original, but more tipping their hat than just repeating the same exact scenario but with a different killer like Part 2 basically did.

It's true, the 3D look might put people off without the proper effect, & it might've been Steve Miner's main priority when filming, but hey, all Sean Cunningham was trying to do with the original was the bare minimum in making a horror film, subpar acting & all. At least with Part 3 they made something iconic in the process, which cemented the tropes of the franchise even further.

Those were just a few reasons why I like P3 more than P2. If anyone else feels similarly, add to the discussion, please & thank you. 😉

Sinister Six vs. The King in Black Story Treatment (SSU Crossover Pitch)

So I know this franchise is technically dead, but as someone who didn't hate the six spin-offs that were made, I need to scratch this itch/exorcize this demon/get it out of my system, & pitch this crossover that Sony was trying to build towards, but clearly had no idea how. Here goes (Names & Key Terms are all in caps to imitate screenplay/treatment style):

Vulture & Morbius recruit Dmitri Kravinoff/CHAMELEON into their burgeoning team of misfits, determined to find & kill this universe's SPIDER-MAN before he becomes a threat to their endeavors. Unbeknownst to them, Sergei Kravinoff/KRAVEN THE HUNTER is coming to New York to find the man responsible for turning his brother into a monster. He at first believes it's MORBIUS. Before he arrives in NY though, CALYPSO informs him of a vision she had: a vast, ashen landscape, littered with the corpses of aliens, which she tells him "look like that Venom thing that showed up in San Francisco a year ago."

Meanwhile, AGONY/DR. TEDDY PAYNE tracks down EDDIE BROCK, who's now working as a reporter in New York again. She reveals that VENOM still lives on through a piece of the symbiote that bonded with a cockroach she found in the ruins of Area 51. Once Eddie & Venom reunite, Agony/Payne shares her suspicions that the IMPERIUM PROGRAM are looking to once again "Reconstitute the Six", though instead of a team of soldiers like in Venom 3, they want to recruit "enhanced" individuals to fight against the still looming threat of KNULL.

Elsewhere, Vulture, Chameleon, & Morbius run afoul of the SPIDER-WOMEN, who are protecting the young PETER PARKER of that universe because MADAME WEB has forseen he's in danger from the forming team of outcasts. Morbius is broken off from the group when Kraven intercepts the fight. After a one on one battle, Morbius tells Kraven that he's not the one he wants, & that he's after Michael's mentor from Horizon Labs: MILES WARREN.

Warren has made contact with Knull, & is acting as his agent on Earth. Warren also was responsible for how the Spider-Women got their powers (more on that in a sec), & he wants to infect New York with a plague of hybrid spider-symbiotes, as the two entities combined are, theoretically, the "perfect" lifeforms.

Madame Web stops everyone from fighting, & they meet up back at the Spider-Women's HQ, where she tells Vulture that this universe's Spider-Man is the least of their problems, as she informs them of the threat posed by Warren.

As this is going on, Brock & Payne are met by DR. DAN LEWIS, who has been a government agent this entire time, the founder of Imperium. Dan apologizes to both of them for General Strickland going rogue & taking matters into his own hands during the events of Venom 3. Dan also reveals that Madame Web & her "WEB WARRIORS" are Imperium agents, created whilst Miles Warren was consulting with Imperium on a means of tracking down & combating symbiotes. Dan wants the both of them to rendezvous with the Web Warriors before they determine their next course of action.

Venom & Agony arrive at the Spider-Women's HQ, but as they do, Chameleon reveals himself as the mole for Warren, with Warren having given Chameleon the means to separate the CARNAGE symbiote from inside Venom, which reconstitutes CLETUS KASADY as well, possible thanks to Venom eating Cletus's brain, & they crash the meeting together, overpowering everyone. Venom & Agony manage to drive back Carnage, who flees with Chameleon, but not before dealing a mortal blow to Dr. Payne, incinerating her completely, & leaving the Agony symbiote without a host.

Venom lets the Agony symbiote merge with him for the time being, but this keeps Eddie & Venom from bonding for said time as well, as the Agony symbiote is not compatible with Eddie, & thus effects Venom's ability to bond with him. With Cletus/Carnage back, this is how Knull finds another codex from which he can free himself from Klyntar.

Everyone regroups at Imperium's NY HQ, & Dan informs them of his proposal. He'd been monitoring more than just Eddie & the now deceased Dr. Payne, as once Madame Web told him of her precognitive visions, he knew the would-be "SPIDER SLAYERS" might be useful to the coming threat of Knull. He proposes that Vulture, Morbius, Kraven, & the three Spider-Women become a "SINISTER SIX" to counter Knull & his allies. In return, Dan offers to find a cure & pardon for Morbius, a way home for Vulture, as well as Kraven getting his brother back.

Dan also proposes that they use the cloning technology developed by Warren for Imperium to replicate the Venom & Agony symbiotes just enough to produce additional symbiotes for the Six. Julia becomes the host of the first clone of Agony, SCREAM/MISERY (combo of the two symbiotes from the comics). Vulture becomes RAPTOR, who resembles the Hybrid symbiote from the comics. Anya becomes MAYHEM. Morbius becomes RAZE. Mattie becomes MANIA. Kraven becomes RASCAL (Red & White coloration). And Madame Web herself becomes the new host of Agony, as Venom reunites with Eddie, becoming the team's leaders.

As they race towards the finale, Warren reveals the ace up his sleeve, not only turning himself into the monstrous JACKAL, but revealing Morbius's love MARTINE as another Living Vampire, as Knull descends upon Earth. But that's not all...the Spider-Women are "Manchurian Candidates" that Jackal turns against the others, & their symbiotes are prophesied reincarnations of Knull's first symbiotes, the Symbiote Sisters.

The unlikely heroes win the day, but not without great cost. Dmitri refuses Kraven. Vulture ultimately sacrifices himself over the course of battle, & makes peace with it because he feels he has shamed his family back home. Morbius must kill Martine. Madame Web meets her end. But, the Spider-Women are restored following the defeat of Jackal, & their symbiotes destroyed. Julia becomes the new Madame Web, & third host of Agony, a partner to Venom, the LETHAL PROTECTOR, & future mentors of their universe's Spider-Man.

Note: Venom defeating Knull will be how he acquires the iconic CHEST SYMBOL, considering in recent comics this was meant to signify the symbiote dragon, instead of a spider like originally thought. Though since we're tying together symbiotes & spiders as the perfect union of symbiosis, this original intent can still be retained.

Casting suggestion for Dr. Miles Warren/the Jackal: Jeremy Irons.

Trying to remember a Spidey comic featured in a late 90s/early 2000s magazine...

Years & years ago, like end of the 90s/beginning of the 2000s years ago, I remember getting a magazine in the mail, & featured therein was a Spider-Man comic. I don't remember the name of the magazine, but I do remember this magazine featuring this comic was one of my early touchstones for the character outside of the 90s animated series.

My main memories of this comic/magazine, probably because they were the only issues I had, was a storyline where Spidey was facing off against Mysterio. The other standout of this comic is Spidey trying to save a car going off of a bridge, his webbing snaps, but then Iron Man saves the car & greets Spidey with "Hello, Webslinger." It then showed numerous Avengers, X-Men, Marvel Heroes on the bridge saving civilians. I vaguely remembered some of these characters from the 90s animated series, but in a lot of ways these couple of comic panels was my first exposure to some of them.

I don't know if this comic was exclusive to the magazine, or it was just printing the current run of (at the time) Spider-Man, but I've been trying to find it. This was before the Ultimate reboot, I know that much. I was really young reading this, like 7-9 years old, & I'm 35 now.

Anyone have any ideas what this magazine was or what comic it featured based on this info?

Do y'all think GvK could function purely as a Godzilla (2014)/KOTM sequel without seeing Skull Island beforehand?🤔

A thought has occurred to me every now & then over the years as the MonsterVerse has progressed.

Kong: Skull Island initially started development as its own project before it was re-purposed as part of the burgeoning MV franchise. And while there are certain aesthetics adopted to show it exists in the same universe as G'2014, its events largely don't effect the greater plotline of the series as set in motion by the events of G'2014.

It's quite literally on an island all its own. Sure, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has connected things to everything else even further, but K:SI as a movie is largely its own entity, with a distinct tone, successful approach to human characters, & even different scaling for its creatures. I've often found it a good pairing with Rampage (2018), for all the reasons I mentioned such as tone, scaling, etc. Plus I think this is why it often avoids the controversy of the other entries with Godzilla. That, & Kong's fanbase is less...volatile.

I also say this because, even if people have very strong opinions about the direction they've headed in, from G'2014 onward, the narrative of the films has progressed in a way where everything ties back to Godzilla, whether it be his many ancient rivalries, his hatred of the Apes because of Skar King, Mechagodzilla as a response to him, etc.

Plus, each of the so far 4 films besides K:SI features at least two (sometimes three) cast members carry over to each subsequent film. Serizawa & Graham from 2014 to KOTM, Mark & Madison Russell from KOTM to GvK, Illene, Jia, & Bernie from GvK to TNE. And soon Trapper will have carried over from TNE to Supernova.

So, with all that in mind, even if the Iwi & Skullcrawlers pop up again for a little bit, do we think that GvK could serve as a decent enough introduction to Kong without seeing K:SI beforehand? In other words, can it function purely as a sequel to both 2014 & KOTM, essentially introducing both Kong & Mechagodzilla into the series that G'2014 started?

Does Distro TV regularly drop live channels?

I don't know where else to bring this up as it seems like a relatively obscure service/app, but anyone else notice the large drop in channel options on Distro? Don't know for how long, but they used to have more on there. Now there's maybe 10 channels max in each of their categories, but usually less.

Which is the best option in terms of picture quality for G'2014 on disc? 4K or 3D Blu-ray?

So to certain extent, getting Godzilla (2014) on home video is a bit of a hassle in terms of getting a copy that has the proper color correction & best viewing quality.

I remember hearing the 4K would fix this issue, but in my experience it's still too dark to really enjoy. It should be noted I don't have a 4K TV, & I also don't see myself getting one anytime soon.

I have heard though that the 3D release somehow avoided the same issues as the regular blu-ray, so I wanted to know if anyone could confirm whether that's true or not?

On the plus side, the last few times it's been on streaming the brightness issue has been fixed. But you obviously are at the mercy of how long it stays on any given service in that scenario.
