Do you allow the repetitive behaviours at bed time just to stop meltdowns?
My daughter (7) non verbal has become fixated with TVs etc for a while now, we have a baby gate on her bedroom door but she’s become fixated on needing to see if my TVs off in my bedroom. Explaining or not letting her turns into hours long crying sessions at the gate but it’s now nearly 1am and she’s just barely giving in. We’re back to school on Thursday and I’m at a loss on getting her back to a good sleep routine. We get up at 8am, melatonin isn’t possible to get quickly where we live and I’ve tried every bedtime routine technique there is.
So all it comes down to is do I ignore her fixation and let her be upset or just let her get it over with so she doesn’t cry?
