How is it possible to support medical assistance in dying while simultaneously being opposed to suicide?
For example, in Canada you have Medical assistance in dying (MAID) and also suicide prevention organizations.

If so, damn
I don't usually try to find new music. What I like, I like. That's it. I can listen to the same song 400 times in a row. For example, I haven't even listened to any songs by The Voidz.
But...
I've been getting a lot of recommendations for Julian's solo album. Oh man, I've been missing out on a true gem.
Thanks to doctorgugglismitz on Instagram!
Hi,
This movie has really affected me. So I’m watching it again
Around minute 17, a few minutes after we learn of the death of RL, when we start seeing Sean Penn wondering around the buildings, there’s a flashback to RL playing with to curtains with a woman.
The first two times I watched it I thought it was his mother, but now I think is one of the angels that appear at the end of the movie.
Also, is she giving him some kind of welcome to eternity? She’s covering him as you would to a dead body
She appears for maybe 2 seconds
What do you think?
Edit: the movie is The Tree of Life
Disclaimer: I don't know if there's an official explination of the song. I haven't found it.
To me, he's talking to a dictator, speaking as a war victim, and also addressing a fictional little brother in the middle of a conflict
[Verse 1]
Do what you will, you can leave when you want
Leave if you want, but I bet that you won't
The dictartor won't leave. He's just there
[Chorus]
We could never afford it
We would dine and dash
I would always go last
No one gonna search me tonight
And I would give you the easy way out
I might be reaching here, but I think he (speaking as a victim) is talking to a fictional little brother or friend about living in poverty. They needed to steal food to survive, and he was trying to protect his brother during these hard times ("I would always go last," "I would give you the easy way out"). He was also trying to offer some hope ("No one gonna search me tonight") while lying about the overall situation—saying "It's going great" while almost crying.
I will not surrender
Something in my brain
I will not defend thеm
Lies you told today
Fighting for the future
Watch thе witches burn
I cannot defend them
[Break]
Permission to speak?
Permission to launch?
Permission to sit?
Permission to die?
Here, he is talking to the dictator again, though I honestly don't know what to make of the "witches" part.
[Verse 3]
I sit him down, I tie him up
I beat it out of him, alright
I beat his brains 'til they're in the floor
Until his family mourns
I'd shoot him now if he was here
I'd slit his throat from ear to ear
But I have sworn a life of peace
How can I reconcile this beast?
This part resonates deeply with me because I've felt all of those exact emotions living through Chávez and then Maduro. The last part especially hits hard, where he tries to be peaceful, but it's extremely difficult to control that rage.
[Verse 4]
Say, say what you want, it's fine
One at a time, we're born
Nothing is off the table anymore
Life, life isn't what they taught
Oh shit, I'm out of ammo
One in a million, for sure
Say, I think I'm prejudiced
'Cause I don't like your face
Over time, I'll accept it, though
I guess, just like an animal is that okay? I know
Say you want it, say you want it
"Nothing is off the table anymore." I believe that in the past, there used to be rules of engagement and a sense of morality during war, but not anymore. That's very easy to see nowadays.
"Life, life isn't what they taught." Yep—just a lot of suffering.
"Oh shit, I'm out of ammo." Perhaps he is actively in combat here?
"'Cause I don't like your face / Over time, I'll accept it, though / I guess, just like an animal is that okay? I know / Say you want it, say you want it" -> Maybe he's trying to force the dictator to finally be honest with the people he's oppresing, just once.
I don't know, maybe I'm completely wrong haha.
And I feel great about it
EDIT: this is a joke. I feel no shame. it's just a meme
I loved it. They seemed to be having a good time too. Here's my opinion on the songs
So I'd give the show a 9/10. 10/10 would've been a 3 hour show :)
In general what of the best setlist I've seen. The vibes were good. Julian sounded great.
Amazing show
For example who's starting in Vancouver? Also how long do they take?
I know lots of people who don't like the new album, and that's fine. It's just music at the end of the day.
But I just wanted to say that I find it so admirable how these guys explore music, what they try to do. Like, I haven't heard a single song from them that sounds mediocre or feels like they didn't try. They always have an intention. You can like it or not, but they crealy put some effort on it.
I'm kind of a new fan, since I started listening to them around 2016. But I keep reading how they where so different back in the 2000s and they set the bar high. So one can say that it was in part pf that innovation that they were able to create classics like Modern Age or Reptilia, right? So yeah, and I'm so grateful for the first albums because they are fucking amazing, but I'm also thankful for The New Abnormal and Reality Awaits.
To me, it's like having a box of chocolates. They aren't all the same, but damn, they all taste great in their own way.
First of all, I know nothing about music theory
Secondly, what a fucking great song
But my point is... it sounds like in different times? Like the drums and guitars are not synced... but they are? You can really notice that at the beginning of the song.
You can downvote me if this is stupid
I wonder that. Becuase you can see them all in that afterlife beach, but she's the only one getting dresses wonderfully, taken care by multiple angels and is seen alone in that great shot where she is in that flat place?
Or maybe they all went to heaven but she got a more special treatment because she was faithful and loyal to God?
What are your thoughts on this?
I finnally realize this. It's just how it is
EDIT: I don't really know but I've just realized how good it is
Now I cannot imagine the songs now without it.
Did Julian actually cook?
(I have a happy life but this song is that good)
Just love it.
I loved the whole album, but I wonder why people hate this one so much. Have you listened how it sounds from 1:28 to 2:07? The guitars are amazing, one of the best songs of the Strokes tbh.
Just love it
Just looking for advise. Maybe nothing works, but maybe there's something I can do?
Thanks
It should be 30 right?
