Lvl 6 feature brainstorming

Im thinking about a lvl 6 feature rework and would need some ideas.

What it needs to do:

- increase the rangers out of combat/exploration prowess

- be on par or at least not much worse than Aura of Protection in terms of power or impact

I belive ranger is or should be the third expert class, fits well as the halfcaster expert class too, that is why it has those requirements

Things to consider:

- rogues get Expertise at 6th lvl and nothing else

- bards get subclass feature

- rogues get Expertise at lvl 1 and 6, bards at lvl 2 and 9 and rangers normaly at lvl 2 and 6. ( bard and ranger are both spell casters, that is most likely the reason)

- rogues get their skill boosting feature at lvl 7, bards at lvl 2

- Reliable Talent makea rouges even better at things they are best at, increased celling

- Jack-of-all trades makes bard less bad at things they are bad at, increased floor

Could rangers also get Expertiese, since rouges get it at lvl 6, so it might be similar to Aura of protection? Then what should rangers get at lvl 9? What feature would fit beside Reliable talent and Jack of all trades?

What ramp to use in Y'shtola?

I feel like you would want to cast her asap, so that would mean 2 cmc manarocks, but she cares about 3 cmc stuff, so those 9 other manarock you might draw later are kind of dead draw. 10 slot in the deck feel too much to waste. Are there any ramp otions at 2 cmc that can be used later in game? Should the deck just curve out with utility creatures or stuff?

How to balance UAF ships, base variants?

They look cool and pritty, but for me there is just something missing. Cohesion, balance or theme? I cant really describe it, but I dont have this problem with vanilla ships.

Every ship should be viable at some point in the game, unless it is a meme like some Lions guard ships or the buffalo mark II.

If a ship has weaknesses they dont feel crippling. A dominator is slow and easyly flanked, but it is still a dominator and can not be underestameted.

Ships in vanilla feel like they all have their place.

Any ideas on how I sould go about making a balance patch for myself?

How much of a builds power comes from: race, abiliti scores, class or feats?

This is more of a question from a power level angle.

What Im NOT asking: class vs class, subclass vs subclass ( which one is better). Im more intrested in things the player has choice and not as big as a class or subclass, since once you choose those, they are mostly set in stone.

I know this is a multi variable/ complex question, so you dont need to answer for every possibility, just the ones you have experience in.

Race

Is it even possible for a race tho have notable inpact on a builds power

Ability scores

Given everything is the same, how much difference does a +5 make? A +4? +3? A -1?

How inportant is taking ASI?

How much does constitution matter? I know it is needed for concentration and hp.

How much does just HP matter.

Feats (excluding ASI)

What happens if you only take feats that you aant for role play vs when you focus on build funcionality.

Are feats actually the way you costumize your character, or are they just an illusion of choice?

Class

Can just the class whit mid/ okay stats work, as in not hold the other PCs back, if those are slightly better stated and spent less or no feats for out of combat utility or RP?

Mainly asking becouse when I was building a character, i want to know how much wiggle room do I have for costumisation. Also, I encountrred multipple choices, where I felt like I did not actually had a choice.

**Ex:**I want to play a ranged beastmaster. Archery and sharpshooter are obvious choices. But what if I want an other feat and fighting style for out of combat utility. Well the statndard answer is that it depends, but in this case I also dont have really good stats, just mid or okay (16 dex and wis, but low con). How much would I need to invest combat syneegistic features where it where it would not hold back others during combat?
